I believe everyone buying iPhone from Maxis will get the CD, contract or no contract based. I'm on prepaid plan by the way.

i receive sms from maxis , they will sent out cd for free to those who buy i phone from them

sigh... a real unnecessary waste of resources to burn the firmware into a CD (and then having to snail mail them) in my humble opinion.

it will not be long before apple detects hiccups or the mighty dev team is able to hack it, a new firmware will be up again.

Sound like u have better solution o....mind share it out?

i think Maxis trying to give a little more by doing little little things, well its part of client service dude. I certainly dont think its a waste of resource from my side. After all Malaysia mah, already kena wasted so much

obtain it directly from the iTunes?

or if you are more tech savvy, find the standalone download link, and use a download program (like DAP, getright) to accelerate and resume your download.

apple on average has 4 sources to feed its downloads, so by using those download programs, you can speed your download even more.

Redundant. If Apple updates the firmware to 3.0.1 the next day, your "Maxis-trying-to-do-a-little-more" CD can throw in the trash already.

what a typical stereotype thinking/mentality. even if something is unlimited or free of charge, doesn't imply that we are entitled to abuse the system.

Give free complain pulak, put it this way the cd is for those who uses internet minimal, and does not have time to spend to wait for the download, although its just 1 hour.

If u dont want the cd then just give it to someone else, the cd can help those who dont have long hours of internet time to download.

i will b happy if Optus here provide free cd too but it is impossible

the reason is i only got 15GB allowance broadband for this month..i need to use this usage wisely..n 15GB is just enough for me only...

i would rather that they save up on the cost of manufacturing and distributing the CDs, in bid to reduce the iPhone upfront payments/monthly tariff (to shut the hell out of those people complaining that the american iPhone is only USD99).

that is why i don't mind purchasing softwares (or even ACPP) without the packaging at a cheaper price.

to make things worse,we all know that apple upgrades their firmwares faster than i can service my car.

Guys..Chill. It does not matter if one receives the CD or give away to others etc.

As soon as Apple seeds the firmware 3.0, there will be links to download the firmware @ http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/984406 when we have them available for all to download. Simple as that.

What if Apple releases 3.0.1 the day after? That CD can become your glass coaster already.

The point is, Apple chose digital delivery as its mode of transport for the firmware upgrades. Tak payah la pandai2 Maxis nak tukar that mode of transport to physical disc pulak! Are Malaysians that archaic and dumb that only by physically seeing the disc that they will see that Maxis is doing its job provided aftersale support?

Also, what Maxis has on their disc may not be latest up-to-date version of the 3.0 firmware. Firmware have many different builds, and these builds are updated to the very last minute. The advantage of digital delivery via iTunes is that, they can easily swap the latest build of the 3.0 firmware into the system. Maxis discs may hold the redundant build of the 3.0 firmware, and users STILL have to resort to iTunes to download the latest build of the 3.0 firmware.

It is not about the ease of "give free complain pulak", it is about logical and common sense on why Apple do it via iTunes. This is not Maxis's iPhone, it is Apple, and they alone provide the underlying OS for the unit.

I think that they're living up the hype of the iPhone OS 3.0 as advertised on the website, as you know Malaysian's mind and most of the buyers don't really know the product well and they just buy it because it looks cool and for showing off purposes. Some even return or sell the iPhone cause they think that it's hard to use or lack of top-notch features that other mobile phone makers can (well you're the dumb one, I'm sorry but it's true) so this little things might help them, and for the simple minded iPhone users please read before you ask any stupid questions.

Im on a jailbroken iphone now. Lets says the software 3.0 is released and i wanted to upgrade to it.. i just update the firmware via iTunes straightly can?

and another question is.. if im on software 3.0 still can be jailbreak?

you have to restore back to original 2.2.1 firmware from itunes then only can upgrade to os 3.0

DO NOT update strait to os 3.0 when ur phone is already jailbreak
