QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Mar 19 2009, 05:20 PM) @mac.tay, I have mention this before, July 17 hereIt's weird. I'm on an official unlocked set from NZ and my APN settings disappeared after I updated the network carrier settings - I just checked again and it's ta-dah still missing! *siGh* NZ iPhone 3G was 1st release with the APN setting hidden(to block prepay customer from using 3G/GPRS data). And it was later added back in with the carrier update. I guess Maxis are trying to do the same as well via a carrier update to hide the APN setting, a seperate APN for iPhone and data plan. You can change the setting easily by swapping with another carrier simcard and change the APN setting or use access this website and change it in ur iPhone http://unlockit.co.nz/ This post has been edited by psyeo: Mar 19 2009, 10:30 PM |

QUOTE(PeeEl @ Mar 19 2009, 08:57 PM) Was telling Hanxz that I might go but going by what you mentioned, looks like there is no vantage point for people like us though undoubtedly it would be a dazzling event. I'll do my best. I hope they dont restrict video recording to official press people only, otherwise all this will be for naught.Would just have to rely on your chronicling it for us. Your effort is appreciated, to say the least. QUOTE(Venus_gwc @ Mar 19 2009, 09:45 PM) hmm.. although i din finish reading all the replies, but i wanna drop a reply to voice out my comment d.. is it really not so worthy to get iphone from maxis? NEVER listen or ask for other people's advice when it comes to your own needs. Your needs may encompass a the RM375 plan, while others are cheap and comfortable with a prepaid package. Asking the latter group, they will always say it is not worth it and expensive. Listen to yourself, and get what your OWN NEEDS dictates. the RM100 plan is still ok lar.. its about the monthly average usage.. and u can get an officially unlock iphone.. QUOTE(g3n0c|d3 @ Mar 19 2009, 10:13 PM) who will be attending to the launching? bro string? hanzx? frozz maybe? 6pm huh? wow... now tht is not the best time to go to kl.... No problems for me. My place is a mere 15 minutes away from KLCC. |

QUOTE(nokia2003 @ Mar 17 2009, 06:22 PM) an insider news. alright, i have further information regarding the maxis bound iPhones. the unit that my friend has, is labeled as a demo unit and bears the part/serial number of MB504ZA/A.remember about the 200 gals (approximately) that maxis needs, for the so-called "open day"? my friend got selected and apparently each of them get to bring home one iPhone as part of their training (to familiarise themselves with one). but of course there is no such thing as a free lunch; they will have to return them at the end of the job! this number does not match any from the list and this could (remember could!) rule out of the possibility of maxis getting their units from singapore (SingTel) |

I get the same info from my source as well, although your findings are more specific and exact, TBH.this number does not match any from the list and this could (remember could!) rule out of the possibility of maxis getting their units from singapore (SingTel) Along with the fact that Apple HQ finally adding Malaysia into the Coming Soon list at Apple.com, I suppose Maxis' position as their telco partner is true after all. |

What would you guys advice me...getting the basic 6 month plan, with the 500mb and rely the first couple of months on wifi before getting a new and possibly better deal at some other Malaysian telcom provider?
I will not talk that much locally on the phone, so the biggest plan is only needed for the 3gb data...and not for the huge amount of free minutes.. Any chance there will be more interesting plans when other providers join? Or will that take ages? |

I understand. It's mainly that it's difficult to guess how much data I will consume monthly...
Besides that, does anyone know if I can simply buy an unlocked iPhone here in The Netherlands, bring it to Malaysia and buy a plan with 3G without the iPhone? |

QUOTE(DikkieD @ Mar 20 2009, 03:48 AM) I understand. It's mainly that it's difficult to guess how much data I will consume monthly... If you don't download video, and if you have wifi internet at home, you can probably get by with 20-30 mb data off your iPhone per weekday (i.e. assuming you're working most of the day and don't have much time to surf the net or etc). Weekends the data usage goes a bit higher, but to be honest on the iPhone you're more limited by the battery life -- heavy 3g usage seriously drains the battery fast. I haven't had my phone that long and there's already been a few times I wanted to play games / surf net / whatever but didn't dare to cos I needed the batt to last til the end of the night. All in all I think I use about 1gb-1.5gb per month -- imo this should be a good reference point, obviously it'll increase if you don't have a home internet connection, or if you're a more power user. Just a question to you guys who've got the iPhone longer though (in Malaysia) ... how's Maxis 3g speed in general? I've been speedtesting from several diff locations and I've never been able to get more than 300 kbps ... for some reason I had it in my mind that 3g is supposed to be measured in mbps already ...
