yes, it is better to have a new thread, as the previous one was merely a speculation.

just a suggestion davidgary73, you might wanna pin this up (for the time being whilst the heat is still boiling hot).

so that overly enthusiastic prospective iphone users will not just jump into the bandwagon to create new threads like "i heard maxis has the iphone, is that true?" or "how much do i need to pay for the maxis iphone?" et cetera.

that way, you can simply close their threads and point them here instead.

What you guys said and predicted came true. Malaysians are so predictable. Whine when they cant get what they want, whine some more when they already have what they want and want even MORE! Disgusting!

Apple iPhone Geniuses picks up gals?

are.. you .. serious?  hmm.gif

ha ha. at least it works that way in australia (and also the UK).

by the way (sorry to enlarge the fonts for this, but i do need some attention), has anyone been curious how will the maxis name appear as the telco provider name, at the top left corner? so far it has always been MY MAXIS whilst most of official providers globally, have their name set to fit the "box" nicely for example SingTel, AT & T. even for virgin australia (yes, they sell iPhones as well), they opt for the Optus name instead.

long story about the virgin mobile network here as they basically use the Optus infrastructure by purchasing minutes/data et cetera at a lower price and then revamping them to the consumers.

hence you insert their sim card on a conventional phone, it will appear as virgin. however if you slip that into an iPhone, Optus will emerge instead.

Not in the sleazy sense, but out of necessity. I see the female customers having to approach Apple Store Geniuses out of their need to query certain things. You do have certain unspoken code of conduct while under employment and in uniform, but your acquaintance with customers can go beyond that after work hours. wink.gif
No payment, only meals and a T-shirt. tongue.gif If you are still interested, I can query further.

damn right, stringfellow!

i have patronise those apple stores sufficiently to see such incidents happening.

I mean.. I own a 'hackintosh'.. and I'm sorta learning about Mac.. can I go to an apple store and meet a female Genius and .. ask around.. you know..  brows.gif

I dont think its worth spending so much just for the sake of warranty. Tonnes of people bought the 2G and 3G before this package came out and i hear more success stories than negative one.

I've had one since Oct 07 and its been serving me well smile.gif  Just make sure you dont drop it into the bathtub (a friend of mine did that)  or drop it flat on its screen.  Handle it with care and it will be fine.

Iphone is unique..  I dont think I can go back to a SE or Nokia anymore.  It can do loads so if you are the kind that likes tinkering with your phone its worth it.. If u just wanna answer phone call and sms..  then get a cheaper SE or Nokia

To those interested on the whole iPhone Buff concept, I was told it is an internal exercise. Unfortunately, those openings are for Maxis staff only, I'm afraid. Sorry to disappoint.

I do have an interesting thought though. What if the present iPhone-owning community, descend down onto the launch and see how they handle the launch this 20th? We can make that as another iPhone TT, but this time, also celebrating the locally launched iPhone as well.

As for me, I've made up my mind. No new iPhone until July 2009. That's when Apple's scheduled to hold another of their own event, and Steve is scheduled to return from his medical leave to make his appearance there as well. Historically, this is the month of iPhone launches, so the new iPhone should show its face there.

oh yeah, baby! that is the only reason i'm currently on the bring your own (BYO) phone plan now; refraining myself from the temptation of getting a spanking new phone.

BRING ON THE THIRD GENERATION IPHONE! i'll be apple's humble servant where i will camp outside the optus/telstra/vodafone/virgin/apple stores in the bleak midwinter, freezing my nuts off! tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

QUOTE(suns8630 @ Mar 12 2009, 01:42 PM)
don't let the different I value plan confuse you .... (very tricky )

take this example  8G  (RM 2540 )with 6 month ivalue ( RM 480 ) total of  RM 3020.00

                          16G (RM 2960 ) with 6 month i value (RM480 ) total of RM 3440.00

market $$$ for unlock set (16G) is about RM 2700.00 to RM 3000.00

so takes it as RM 2700.00 minus the 16G set from maxis (3440.00 )

the different is RM 740.00 .. ( don't forget the Plan you are having ( 6 months of RM 480.00 )

now the NET different is only RM 260.00 ...

so the say ... Maxis is making a profit of this "RM260.00" per set ..... (NOT too bad laah )

but as a consumer, I think this $$ different is also goes to the warranty and the peace my mind toward owning this set ( 1 year )
I made up my mind ... heading to maxis center now !!!!

see you at KLCC .... launching nite ...

that's already a well inflated price where the seller is attempting to rip you off (at those prices)

listen... no one is taking a gun and pointing it up to your head and subsequently forcing you to purchase an item which you do not want.

let's face it; there is no doubt that apple products are slightly towards the premium side. or else why are they being featured so much in hollywood movies, take that for an example.

the metaphor to this situation is pretty straightforward - beemers are relatively more expensive locally (compared to many countries; yes, now observe the similarity). right... just because i cannot afford a bmw 3 series (when it probably cost approximately the same as a honda civic abroad), am i gonna throw a hissy fit at bmwgroup malaysia/sime darby/the extortionate duties/sluggish AP system/the-deliberate-action-by-bank-negara-to-depreciate-the-ringgit-to-boost-up-the-trade-surplus for shattering my prospective hopes of owning a beemer? that's just down right childish and not to mention naive.

hence you are not happy about it, stop moaning and just move on. besides if your burning desire to own an iPhone is that strong, just go ahead and purchase one from the GC or if you wanna scoop yourself even lower, proceed with a locked unit and use the artificial unlocking method (either yellowsn0w or a sim card adapter). no one can EVER tell difference, apart from yourself.

this thread is dedicated to the first ever iPhone arriving at our shores (after the two agonising years wait) and not a maxis bashing thread. besides, has any of you realised that the fact of the skyrocketing price could also be motivated by Apple's own greed as well? (as seen in South Korea, where the COE of the major telecommunication there blatantly accused steve jobs of playing hardball?)

in conclusion, why don't we just concentrate in helping the rest of the forummers who are actually interested in getting an iPhone from maxis and also pointing out the miscellaneous terms and conditions imposed in the contract. LYN is after all a forum and not a place to shower your hatred towards something. period.

to the very obvious person above,

no one is refuting that LYN is a blinking forum and we can discuss/argue constructively.

we are referring to those single liners who then barge in with nonsensical posts for example "so expensive", "maxis sucks" et cetera.

Because EVERYONE already knows it's expensive. We also know that to compare pricing and packaging from country-to-country is very arbitrary.

Yes, Maxis is overcharging. Yes, Maxis is trying to make as much as possible before the new model/new package comes out.

So?

What we need is to help each other figure out a good plan to pick from the ones offered so that it meets our expectations. Tell us why you think the plans are not suitable or not fairly priced. I think work-together threads are nicer to read than your typical Kopitiam rollaround-kicking-mud-at-each-other topic. Don't you agree?

Besides, 1000 posts of 'its too expensive' gets old really fast.
*
i'll be darn right pissed (not to mention insulted) if the iphone subsection is categorised and treated like the derogatory kopitiam section.

regulars here actually commit (even though we are not obliged to, but we still do it because of our passion) themselves helping/advising those in need of dire help.

at this rate and with those certain people on board, it will not be long before someone comes in with a problem in the future and a kopitiam-like answer comes up; "pic or GTFO!"

Anyway i do apologise for ranting. I reckon it is the australian water (as seen in a few of LYN forummers based here; those who know me will understand this joke better tongue.gif) which is creating this emotion.
But no worries, i'm not gonna play the whirlpool-forum card yet...

Those documents requirements already posted earlier by me, even before it appears on the website. You'll face even weirder processing procedures later, requiring biometric fingerprinting. Reason being, they dont want fiascos like people buying the iPhone for cheap and then defaulting on the payment. All these documents are necessary to track you down later should you decide to run away from payment.

an insider news.

remember about the 200 gals (approximately) that maxis needs, for the so-called "open day"?

my friend got selected and apparently each of them get to bring home one iPhone as part of their training (to familiarise themselves with one).

but of course there is no such thing as a free lunch; they will have to return them at the end of the job!

incorrect.

there are 3 (or technically 4) in australia; telstra, vodafone, optus (and virgin)

alright, i have further information regarding the maxis bound iPhones. the unit that my friend has, is labeled as a demo unit and bears the part/serial number of MB504ZA/A.

this number does not match any from the list and this could (remember could!) rule out of the possibility of maxis getting their units from singapore (SingTel)

I understand. It's mainly that it's difficult to guess how much data I will consume monthly...

Besides that, does anyone know if I can simply buy an unlocked iPhone here in The Netherlands, bring it to Malaysia and buy a plan with 3G without the iPhone?

a simple check on the list, will inform you that netherlands bound units are locked to the carrier and offers no chance of unlocking thereafter.
