if u think this way maybe will more comfort for the new launching.

1. finally here, at least got local support
2. if outside selling 2.5k for 8GB, u gain 500MB data
3. if u sign rm100/mth, u get 8GB only rm1900, save rm600, offset rm50/mth for 12mth, u gain on monthly charges.

5 reasons why it is not worth it to purchase the iPhone 3G.

2 Megapixel camera: Even a common phone has 3 to 5 megapixel camera.

Hidden cost: Paying additional to Maxis for nothing

No physical keyboard built-in

No stereo Bluetooth, still no MMS, still no video recording

Lack of 7.2Mbps download support
*
since u r not apple user, u duno mac OSX experience at all.
u can stick with ur current fone or WM fone.

I was talking with Head of Maxis developer at Maxis Tower, KLCC. Then again, we here don't really know the exact measure as that might be their marketing strategies.
*

Hmmm no wonder someone mentioned before ( http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/964872 )that once you applied the recent carrier update, the APN settings went missing..thus meaning you are not able to change it. I guess this carrier setting is specifically targeting the upcoming iPhone launch by Maxis.

But Tink faced the same issue as well after applying the carrier update on her official unlock NZ set. From what I see the carrier update only available for iPhone user on Maxis. I am on Digi and I did not get any update prompting me for carrier update.

i updated but APN data settings still thr ah~ ???

@mac.tay,
You mean after your recent update on the carrier network settings, you can still make changes to your APN? - as in the option is still available in your phone?!

Are U with Maxis?
*

@mac.tay,
It's weird. I'm on an official unlocked set from NZ and my APN settings disappeared after I updated the network carrier settings - I just checked again and it's ta-dah still missing! *siGh*

If you don't download video, and if you have wifi internet at home, you can probably get by with 20-30 mb data off your iPhone per weekday (i.e. assuming you're working most of the day and don't have much time to surf the net or etc).

Weekends the data usage goes a bit higher, but to be honest on the iPhone you're more limited by the battery life -- heavy 3g usage seriously drains the battery fast. I haven't had my phone that long and there's already been a few times I wanted to play games / surf net / whatever but didn't dare to cos I needed the batt to last til the end of the night.

All in all I think I use about 1gb-1.5gb per month -- imo this should be a good reference point, obviously it'll increase if you don't have a home internet connection, or if you're a more power user.

Just a question to you guys who've got the iPhone longer though (in Malaysia) ... how's Maxis 3g speed in general? I've been speedtesting from several diff locations and I've never been able to get more than 300 kbps ... for some reason I had it in my mind that 3g is supposed to be measured in mbps already ...

[edit] This is what I mean:

result i get from 15th floor holiday inn hotel, malacca.
abt 1Mbps

KL i average get 300kbps+

huh?

when the Maxis release the Hotlink Prepaid plan for iPhone 3G 8GB with RM2540, no contract?
released recently only?

quite attractive! as now forum seller selling SG unit at RM2400.
better add few hundred buy this Maxis unit, as warranty claim is convenient.

but 3rd generation iPhone is coming soooon...
must hold on first...

if later the 3rd generation iPhone, Maxis also come out this Hotlink prepaid plan, i sure will get one unit!
*
1 good point buying SG set is can disable data access @ cellular data network from menu.
maxis set is disabled to access this function.

if u using maxis SIM, sure u hammer with data charges, if u not taking iValue/data plan which bundled with free data.

juz sharing my exp, n i'm using SG set but i got free data 500MB/mth bcoz i signed up iphone on behalf for fren to get iphone tongue.gif

Hey guys. I am on 2g iPhone planning to upgrade to 3 gs. I am on Celcom and love their unlimited 148 power package. The only thing stopping me to switch to maxis is the fact that there is no unlimited data package and from many users feedback the overall cost of the data package is high. Any comments??
