it's the contract that matters. once you've committed to like 1 or 2 years, there's no turning back. requires thoughtful consideration before jumping into the contract.

Booking is only confirmed when the customer receives a Confirmation ID via
SMS and Email. Booking merely indicates an interest to purchase the iPhone 3Gand shall not be construed as a binding agreement for the sale/purchase of theiPhone 3G.
This means that we can FFK after we booked the phone without any penalty or etc?
*
it isn't stated in their website. however, you do need to select the plan before proceed with the booking.

officially-unlocked? perhaps RM2.3-2.4K? just a rough figure. anyway, this thread is strictly for iPhone 3G Maxis telco talk. do make sure we don't get ourselves over-excited and go off-topic. smile.gif

Something just crossed my mind..

It is stated iPhone is under Maxis warranty for ONE year. Let say I sign up for Value Plus Plan for 6 months contract. End of sixth month, terminated the contract and MNP to other Telco while still keeping the phone. Is the still under Maxis warranty?

Hope someone can clarify on this since many are considering the official warranty by Maxis is one of the advantages in terms of getting the phone from Maxis instead of from other third party sources.
*
try to call Maxis Customer Service @ 123 from your postpaid line. they now have dedicated option selection for enquiries on iPhone 3G. u need to wait awhile though. but not as long as when you're calling Streamyx CS hotline. smile.gif

QUOTE(clawhammer @ Mar 11 2009, 08:31 PM)
I think I'll call Maxis to ask about it smile.gif I get free calls of 333 mins and 500 MB data every month for 24-months contract RM100 monthly commitment? That's pretty good it seems. I've been a customer with Maxis for 10 years so I think it doesn't matter to sign up the contract, lol.
*
i'm planning to opt for that plan too but too bad it can't be combined with Family Plus supp line.

eg. I'm on VP50 + Family Plus 50 (supp line) = RM100 per month

if i subscribed for that plan, total commitment per month will be RM150, including Family Plus 50. the catch is i will not be able to call/SMS my girl for free anymore. there will only be 20% discount on calls made and SMS sent to her will cost 5cents. she can still call me for free for 20 hours and send me 2000 free SMS though.

let's say you have if 2 or any number of Family Plus supp line, calls made to anyone of them will be on 20% discount & 5cents per SMS. but calls/SMS made/sent between them will still be free.

QUOTE(clawhammer @ Mar 11 2009, 08:49 PM)
I wanted to call and ask about that because my gf and I are on Family Plus plan too. If that's the case then it's not worth it. What's the point paying RM100, having a 12-month contract while the phone itself isn't very cheap.

The only plus point is the 500MB free data transfer included in the package. You mean if I'm using the iValue plan, my sms to my family plus line is still 2000 sms free?
*
it isn't worth it in my point of view.

for the bolded sentence, once you're on iValue plan, you won't enjoy any more free SMS or calls to anyone under Family Plus supp line(s). but they will enjoy it among themselves.

eg. You - iValue 100 (main line) + A - Family Plus (supp line) + B A - Family Plus (supp line) + C - Family Plus (supp line)

* A, B & C will still enjoy free 20 hours of calls and 2000 SMS among themselves.
* A,B & C still can call you for free for 20 hours and 2000 SMS.
* You CAN'T make/send any free calls or SMS to them.
* You CAN ONLY enjoy 20% discount on call rate made to A, B & C. SMS to A,B & C will be 5cents per SMS.

hope you get what i mean. smile.gif

like what stated in the Maxis website, iValue 100 is RM50 for voice calls and RM50 for data usage. does not include usage of SMS.

LET'S TO THE MATHS!!!

I am now in Maxis ValuePlus50 Plan. (because i'm "light" user)

if i sign up iValue 12 mths Plan
RM1,900 + RM1,200(100perMth) - RM600(my current plan) = RM2,500 for an iPhone3G 8g

if i sign up iValue 24 mths Plan
RM1,510 + RM2,400(100perMth) - RM1,200(my current plan) = RM2,710 for an iPhone3G 8g
*Hong Kong is selling officially "UNLOCK" iphone3g for about RM2,500
Well, i think i still stick to my 1st Gen iphone until WWDC on Jun 2009, because who knows
iphone 4G is coming....
*
actually based on this, it's coming.

listen... no one is taking a gun and pointing it up to your head and subsequently forcing you to purchase an item which you do not want.

let's face it; there is no doubt that apple products are slightly towards the premium side. or else why are they being featured so much in hollywood movies, take that for an example.

the metaphor to this situation is pretty straightforward - beemers are relatively more expensive locally (compared to many countries; yes, now observe the similarity). right... just because i cannot afford a bmw 3 series (when it probably cost approximately the same as a honda civic abroad), am i gonna throw a hissy fit at bmwgroup malaysia/sime darby/the extortionate duties/sluggish AP system/the-deliberate-action-by-bank-negara-to-depreciate-the-ringgit-to-boost-up-the-trade-surplus for shattering my prospective hopes of owning a beemer? that's just down right childish and not to mention naive.

hence you are not happy about it, stop moaning and just move on. besides if your burning desire to own an iPhone is that strong, just go ahead and purchase one from the GC or if you wanna scoop yourself even lower, proceed with a locked unit and use the artificial unlocking method (either yellowsn0w or a sim card adapter). no one can EVER tell difference, apart from yourself.

this thread is dedicated to the first ever iPhone arriving at our shores (after the two agonising years wait) and not a maxis bashing thread. besides, has any of you realised that the fact of the skyrocketing price could also be motivated by Apple's own greed as well? (as seen in South Korea, where the COE of the major telecommunication there blatantly accused steve jobs of playing hardball?)

in conclusion, why don't we just concentrate in helping the rest of the forummers who are actually interested in getting an iPhone from maxis and also pointing out the miscellaneous terms and conditions imposed in the contract.
LYN is after all a forum and not a place to shower your hatred towards something. period.

*
agreed. this thread is supposed to be a thread guiding forumers on choosing the right plan/package with Maxis iPhone 3G rather than complaining/bashing how bad Maxis is pricing the iPhone & plans etc. Maxis never pointed a gun at your head asking you to subscribe to their plans for the phone. just get one from overseas if you're not happy/satisfied.

Yes the ValuePlus plans are more worth it.  Please do note the iValue plans does not include SMSes.  Hence, for every SMS sent out you will need to pay under the iValue plan.
*
the absence of SMS usage to be included in the iValue plan is the reason why i'm not willing to commit to the iValue plans. was thinking of subscribing to iValue 100 at first but that really puts me off. do hope Maxis will revise their plans though.

This just in. Maxis staff will be able to purchase the Apple iPhone 3G without contract (effectively "buy outright" like the NZ iPhones) for the price of RM2,400 for the 8GB, and RM2,700 for the 16GB. Option to buy them will be only after the launch and immediate customer allocations have been dealt with.
*
that's almost the same as Singtel sets sold by sellers in GS, with the advantage of local warranty. will soon see flooding of Maxis iPhone in the GS soon i guess.

@VonDrake:

you still need to read through everything even the thread is 40 pages long. that's how a forum works and here, we don't spoon-feed.

all the questions you're asking can be answered by reading the first post. all the complete & updated information is there. smile.gif

"Could i pay rm250 a month or is it that i have to buy the phone for 1510 and then a rm 100 contract for the next 2 years of my life?" Pay RM1510 upfront for the phone and sign a contract with Maxis by paying RM100 per month for 2 years, include free usage of 333 minutes calls and 500MB data per month.
