QUOTE(friends @ Nov 22 2008, 01:26 AM) Though, still hope Apple will fix the "showing number" instead of name issue, and also add in Malaysia as Country in Contact. using iPhone 3G in official launch country will not have that problem*...as iTunes will provides carrier update to the iPhone.....I wonder if using iPhone 3G overseas with overseas contacts number, when calling it shows Name or Number ? Does that has something to do with Region in iPhone Firmware ? *i do face that problem before while in NZ, probably because that i change some of the file after jailbreak...after restoring with a fresh JB-ed firmware it seems to work fine again. |

QUOTE(porkchop @ Nov 22 2008, 12:15 PM) wannna know the "maps" app in iphone Once you jb, you can use a third party app called MapsOffline that will load map files (prepared by you) into the cache. There is a thread here somewhere that details it. Look up davidgary's iPhone for Dummies sticky and refer to item #24. Without that app though (if you don't wish to jb) yes, iPhone Maps will store cache for a particular area which won't be deleted upon exiting. However the cache saved is pretty much limited to just the map area shown on screen before you exit and not all that you have previously browsed.after the map is viewed, is it stored in the iphone and in the future i can view that particular area without having the need to use 3g to download it?? or the maps view are all in the cache and deleted upon exit? yup 2.2 is good as it sorts out meticulous flaws such as crashing safari, slow settings and text message initialisation et cetera.
i would rather give up JB for those perks... This post has been edited by nokia2003: Nov 22 2008, 10:16 PM |

QUOTE(nokia2003 @ Nov 22 2008, 11:57 PM) That post sorta brought a huge "!" mark on top of my head. Was at a meeting today with my investment advisor, and after all the necessary work done and set aside, we talked about the iPhone, because I noticed she is using one. In my excitement, showed her the 2.2 Aifontriji, and she was excited about its features and the stability of the system on the whole, while on 2.2. She was complaining on SMS lag, and Safari booting her out to Home screen. Her unit is an Aifonej by the way. Took a look at her About page, and it was 1.1.4! Blurted out that she should update hers to the latest firmware, so that she could have stability and use Street View, which she liked very much. Did not realize, until now, from those simple sentences, Nokia, that 2.2 on Aifonej = LOCKED! Thank God I stumbled upon this realisation, thanks to this. Otherwise, I'd be in a pickle because she's already excited to had me do her firmware update for her, but I asked her to back her phone up before we can proceed any further. Thanks, Nokia! |

@ stringfellow
apparently, you can! and it stays unlocked provided you use the update, instead of restore feature! however, your JB materials will diminish alongside the update unfortunately. Added on November 23, 2008, 12:17 amtherefore in your case, i would recommend upgrading it to 2.1 first, and subsequently 2.2 (using the previous version of itunes) This post has been edited by nokia2003: Nov 23 2008, 12:17 AM |
