that's not the correct way (for fw 2.x and above)
you will have to restore via itunes and the whole story again... |

heyy i wonder whats wrong with my iPhone 1G
i used to update to the latest version of firmware using pwnage ( by restoring to the custom firmware ) i thought of using quickpwn so i updated to 2.2 and tried to run quickpwn but after updating my phone is already able to make calls and i still have all my data with me, even if i havent start running quickpwn how come its already unlock at this moment? O.o Added on November 23, 2008, 10:10 pmerrr wait, i have all the 2.2 features but not street view excluding the japanese emoji since i cannot subscribe =( Added on November 23, 2008, 10:29 pmgot the street views but not m'sia's maps =( still wondering why i can update straight away without even using either pwnage or quickpwn O.o This post has been edited by fuiyo: Nov 23 2008, 10:29 PM |

QUOTE(rx330 @ Nov 23 2008, 11:52 PM) how to use the street view ar? cant seem to get it work Grab a drop pin. Drop it on the map. Once dropped, check if the Street View icon is lighted or greyed out. If it is greyed out, it will not be available at the area you have dropped that pin onto. If it is lighted, tap that icon, and the view will "drop" to that drop pin, and you can "360" around that area you pindropped. To navigate further up or down the road you pindropped, tap the arrow on the yellow-highlighted line. Your position will be moved accordingly.my fren saw the google car in spore small pickup with many cameras on top, my fren posed for the camera Popular areas, are already premarked by other Google Street View users with drop pins that have Street View on them. Try search for " Apple Fifth Avenue New York", "Times Square" or "Paris". The drop pin at Apple store on 5th Avenue in New York is cool, but at the present moment, the view of the glass cube is blocked by a stupid UPS truck! As long as you don't see the Street View car doing its rounds around your local areas, Street View will not be available. Some folks in the States are lucky(or unlucky, depending on how you see it) enough to have the car photographing their residential area to be included into Street View, they can even trace down their virtual journey on Street View right up to their front lawn and driveway!
When I say unlucky, some of the photos are pretty intrusive in terms on privacy. For example, a poor guy got his pictures taken by Google Street Car while he passed out on the sidewalk after being drunk drinking the past night! If you voluntarily offer your mug to be taken for Street View, that is pretty much fine, but for this person, it may more than a little embarrassing. or in fact using pwnage or quickpwn is actually not necessary? just straight away update with your iPhone 1G even its not legally unlock? |

Don't blame Beijing or Hong Kong for it, some countries are pretty sensitive when it comes to taking pictures of their areas. Privacy issues and security matters rank differently between countries.
Malaysia? Our government does not even care if Google Map even work around these parts, so don't hold your breath for Street View here. |

QUOTE(fuiyo @ Nov 24 2008, 12:11 AM) can anyone tell me why i dont need to unlock my phone using pwnage or quickpwn when i update? because the new 2.2 fw for the first generation iphone will not upgrade your baseband (as opposed to the 3G ones) and therefore preserving its unlock-ability. or in fact using pwnage or quickpwn is actually not necessary? just straight away update with your iPhone 1G even its not legally unlock? therefore if you look it from a subjective point of view, this shows that apple seems to be losing interest on the first generation units. |

Its not the matter of loosing interest in the first gen baseband. Its just "why fix it when its not broken". There's no complaint from the 1st gen user regarding the signal of WiFi or phone hence no update to the baseband. 3G phone have updates to the baseband as Apple include fixes to optimize the baseband functions, just like the old times when 1st gen got baseband update.

hmmm... i have always thought that upgrading the baseband is another way/routine implemented by apple to outrun illegal unlocks.

Yes it is but that's not the main function of a baseband upgrade. It's just a by product from updating the baseband as the 'hacked' baseband been replaced by a new one hence the need to unlock the baseband again. It would be a waste of time and resources for Apple to upgrade the baseband just to outrun unlockers.

If apple do find a need to update the baseband then we need to unlock it again. Trust me, BootNeuter will be updated fast to unlock the new baseband.
