hi , i just finished my o-levels and im waiting for my results .

I'm playing to take aircraft engineering but i'm not sure which is a better way
I have two options ,

1- Get my  DCAM license with type rating at APR aviation training center(4 years program)
2- Get my diploma and degree in UniKL-MIAT , meanwhile i can do my DCAM license at there. (8 years program )

I personally feel that I should go for APR since it is more professional i can say ? But one thing I'm not sure , is diploma and degree an advantage to us ? is it needed for us to become a more successful LAE ? or is it just a waste of time and money since the most important thing to become LAE is the license .

I'm confused , I need help here

If u would go through the thread,u will find the answer.

I guess everywhere is the same now, many young graduates couldn't get a proper job .
But I find this aircraft engineering the most interesting and challenging out of all the engineering courses , love aircraft since young , so should be a right choice for me thumbup.gif

Think twice bro, it is not as easy as you think, I had the same thought like you, after finishing my Easa part 147 training only realized this field need a lot of hard work & dedication.. degree isn't really an option if you wanna pursue your LAE dream, I wasted my 4 years just only getting a degree lolz, go for TAME program

One last question , is there a need for me to pursue a Diploma if I want to become a LAE ? I just couldn't find an answer why should I pursue a Diploma .

Bro, If you insist of becoming LAE, there is no need diploma or degree (refer to previous 1~15x pages you will know the answer), what company care about is your WORKING EXPERIENCE, not DIPLOMA or DEGREE unless you wanna get degree for a backup plan like work in office or management team, if becoming LAE is ONLY your plan, then you should STICK to your plan and don't change it anymore~ the road to become a qualified LAE is tough, start from a tech with low salary, thousands of hours of hard work, work under extreme pressure & high ambient temperature with time limit task, the struggle is real, hustle is also real, & that's what I'm doing.. because ambition is priceless
Go get pure part 147 DCAM class finish all papers & years of working experiences that you required, roughly takes 4~6 years to finally get your license I guess

A diploma or degree is just requirement for you to get a job (min qualification).

If you like aircraft and have interest in it than you can give it a try.

Current in MY you need is DCAM part 147 school.

Latest update, as what I got the newest information from DCAM, for those new LAE comers, now they require at least a DEGREE education level only can become LAE Certifier, you can make your inquiries directly to DCA..

Thought of popping by here real quick. I went for the APR course in late 2011 and got my DCAM B1.3 license last year, am currently working in the industry now as a LAME and just got my first type rating recently as well. Cheers and good luck to others interested in this field, but all I can say is, it's pretty much crowded here now which wasn't the case when I first started APR in 2011 wink.gif

I don't understand your statement. You're saying in order to sign aircraft for release you need a Degree as well? Doesn't make sense no? hmm.gif

Not sure if you're still interested in the field, but here's my 2ct.

Well, I am from APR and there are many people I know personally who obtained their license from APR and are now working in the industry whereas MIAT I heard they just started taking their DCA exams in-house but not too sure of that. I'm not a student of MIAT so i do not want to comment too much on that. Degree/Diploma is not required to be an LAE but it might be useful if you're eyeing for managerial positions. Other than that, maybe some leverage when discussing about salary? But in terms of an LAE's responsibilities and job scope, diploma/degree is not required, just the license.

I took nearly 6 years to obtain my license due to multiple factors including failing and retaking certain exams multiple times, and the fact that APR was not approved to conduct examinations yet until I was about to enter my 3rd year, and also assessment waiting times. But I do know certain people who did accomplish everything within the 4 year schedule but you must be really hardworking. I also know quite a number who just gave up halfway and are in other fields now.

All I can say is, do your research properly, plan your finances(APR ain't cheap) and all the best thumbup.gif

In APR retaking exam for internal(4 year course) and external students different. Not too sure for external student retake fee, but internal at my time was RM100 and for essay is RM50 only. Not too sure now how also after the recent announcement. Not sure if it will affect other 147 exam fees or not.
