Here's a firmware to patch the SD15 to SD1A

http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/self...sp?DocId=207951

Download the appropriate ISO file for your drive model, burn it onto a CD (or a USB key if you know how), reboot and if your drive is still detectable, flash it accordingly.

It is not known if the firmware will stop the bricking issue (BSY/LBA0) or cause other issues, but I have successfully flashed the firmware to SD1A on my remaining ST3500320AS, and it has been running for 10 minutes now.

Firmware does NOT fix BSY state drives, I don't know about the LBA0 drives.

I have 2 units of the same exact model that you have, spanker, and it has been operating normally for the past 5 months or so... I haven't updated the firmware to SD1A yet, I am pondering on whether if I should...

Sigh, only recently I found out about this news. Initially, my first unit of Seagate 500GB 32MB returned to shop for 1 to 1 warranty within a week as I'm experiencing problems with bootup and formatting. I guess my first unit was bricked doh.gif

Now I having one in my home workstation that I stored most of my data and HDs. I wonder would it survive before I come back from HK to get another HDD to backup all >.<

therefore, if ur model number is listed as one of the potentially affected drives BUT ur serial number is not then u dont hv to update ur firmware...

Wait, how do I know that my HDDs are affected according to the serial numbers? I've used the "Drive Detect" software to check, but I don't see anything that tells me that my HDDs are affected...

All I get is this:

Model: ST3500320AS, Serial: 9QMXXXXX, Firmware: SD15, Attached: Yes
Model: ST3500320AS, Serial: 9QMXXXXX, Firmware: SD15, Attached: Yes

So, which part of the info above tells me that my HDD is affected? blink.gif

I think those who are using this drive should return it to the dealer...

Your data is at risk.

I got 21pcs last 2weeks, having them run in raid 0 mode...

most of my raid arrays failed now, losing most of the data...

i will screw the supplier this coming monday...

My suggestion:
1) Back up your data
2) Make sure you have all the tools necessary for restoration in case the HDD gets locked in BSY or LBA0 mode

It's not the supplier's fault, it's Seagate's fault. You'd think by now all these big corporations would have known how to cut costs intelligently by now, but that's never the case.

Can anyone here up the screenshot if your serial is not affected?
I check my serial but no result... This is OEM unit buy from AllnGap..
The earlier post i said that seagate support email me and inform that my drive is not affected..
How they so sure since the serial checker show no result... rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif
Or they just simply check my serial and come no result and then make the conclusion " Owh, don't worry. Your drive is not affected..." hmm.gif

Since firmware upgrade not available for OEM units, I guess OEM's result wouldn't affect anything gua? unsure.gif

Hey,hey...where u get that statement "firmware upgrade not available for OEM units" ??
I already told to seagate person that my drive is OEM..
But they still surely confirm my drive is not affected after they check the serial..
Wonder here whether seagate person "really" do their job to check my serial even they know my drive is OEM..
