QUOTE(Ndrew @ Jun 30 2009, 10:10 AM) Lemme try to answer this, anyone pls correct me if i'm wrong.. Answers: 1. Yes most probably iphone 2Gs will already be unlocked for you when you buy them... if it's locked there's already software to unlock it on your own.. 2. Yes after you update to 3.0 it will be locked again but you can use redsnow to unlock it. I have yet to try it but some ppl here have already done it to their iphone 2Gs 3. Maxis iphones are the only officially unlocked iphones "with warranty" in Malaysia. there are also other officially unlocked phones from NZ, Aussie, Singapore etc but warranty is not availble locally that's all... And yes u can use the phone right away without unlocking.. Jailbreaking is optional You can get more info by reading the pinned threads... i'm still reading hahaha tq tq, very useful info there. yeah, im reading it over n over again to fully understand it. one more question. iphone 2G doesn't hv GPS chip in it. is there any 3rd party software/app for GPS without having me to pay anything? no right? or is there any?

Wow this is a very good guide. I'm thinking of purchasing an iPhone 2G, as I already have a smartphone and I can get reimbursed. Hmmm.

Hi tink, I can only claim up to RM1k from my company.
Just found out it HAS to be a 3G Phone so now I'm considering trading in my other phone, topping up and buying a used iPhone 3G.
So this week I'm gonna be reading up this thread a lot. Thanks for all contributors!

That way, even when your data usage went overboard, you won't get slapped with thousand-RM bill. Of course, this is if your budget allows.

Of course, this is if your budget allows. not sure, how the system has changed since i left the country. but back home, most of the prepaid providers come with the conventional SIM card and rarely 3G equipped. hence, make sure you patronise a local provider store near you and upgrade the card. iPhones run most satisfactorily under the 3G network.

@Lord_Ashe, If and when you've decided on the 3G and looking for a 2nd hand unit, do think of me yah? *smiles* @young, Just becareful about the data streaming coming in via GPRS/EDGE/3G. U don't want to end up with no more credit but that way at least there's a cap, unlike the post paid users
