It's hard to find a proper sub-100 DSLR bag. Most weather resistant bags are normally priced in the RM200-400 range. >__<
I'm personally looking at the Lowepro Inverse series icon_idea.gif

All of the above matches your needs. You have to consider though - D40 only has 6 megapixels and the Sony is a new entry into the DSLR market so it us recommended to get the Canon.

Like TheWandererX said, I would also be against the purchase of the D40 since it's old technology. Not to say that it is bad, but with that price, you could get yourself a newer model, like the A200. Everything about the A200 says its better than the D40, exept the brand.
Add a little more cash, and you'll be looking at the Canon 1000d or the Nikon D60.

Girlfriend wants a camera. She's new to photography so nothing too advanced.

Type of camera/lens/accesories : Digital Camera
Budget : RM700 or less
Your Location : KL (easy access to MidV, OU, Curve)
Preferable brand : Panasonic, Canon (open to suggestions but Olympus)
Type of photography u want to do : General use
Any specific models in mind? : Panasonic Lumix DMCT75, Canon Digital Ixus 870 IS
Any specific features u want? : User friendly (she and I are noobs)

She's looking for something to get into photography. Nothing too complicated. If the cameras she saw is too advanced for her use feel free to recommend one that is more suitable.

Apologies if I got any of the details wrong. I'm not good with cameras either.

If you want the camera with the best performance-to-price ratio, then you're looking at the Sony A200. If you're looking at availability of lenses, Sony does have a wide variety of lenses to suit most shooting styles, but, Canon and Nikon does have the advantage of having a wider range of lenses.

Thanks for your comment. Probably I will get a Nikon D60 as my CNY gift & bring it along to Bali on end of March.

Happy Chinese New Year.

i would advice u get 1000D instead. or save more for d80.
d60 can't autofocus with 50mm f/1.8
no live view on d60
3 focus point vs 1000d 7

If you do have/want to upgrade to other lenses in the future, more lenses are available for Canon/Nikon, so you don't need to worry about not finding the lens. Only have to worry about the $$$ needed to buy the lens. Later on when th normal lenses don't satisfy you as much anymore.... the poison starts... whistling.gif

Sony/KM lenses are really hard to come by in shops, though there are quite a few traders selling it in Garage Sales, or in PhotoMalaysia or ShutterAsia. It is all up to you whether you can source out the good deals (for Sony/KM lenses). Usually prices for the Canon/Nikon compatible lenses are more competitive, so you get lower prices from the real market price and freebies too wink.gif
