General questions... What does it mean by "Held by custom (import)" status? How long does it take for the item to cleared or detained by them? If detained, how long do they detained it before returned to sender if nobody come to claimed it? Just worry I don't receive any notification from them... Sorry if this is incorrect thread to ask

Import clearance in the process. Depend on waiting list when the agent submit the paperwork to Customs, normally 1-2 days. If no further update, u should ask the agent.

Hi kherel77 ! I planning to buy handbag for my wife from USA which cost USD 191 included shipping. But the handbag is not a luxury brand, am i still gonna pay tax?

Luxury or not, if taxable items still got to pay the taxes.

Tax is dependable on Tariff Codes of items & CIF Value.

Yes. I recently experience this.

Bought fr Europe a few assorted EVA (soft flexible plastic) handbags, total items cost euro130. Shipping via UPS, cost covered by merchant.

Merchant did lousy job at packing items... the parcel was huge compared to the contents... can shake about & put many other stuffs in... 🙄. N the actual weight only 2.4kg!

So, customs at KLIA charged freight Rm333. Insurance was 10% of items cost.

Tariff code was 4202.12.1900. Custom duty 0%
Sales tax 10%
UPS disbursement fees rm37.

All fees to customs paid by UPS. Was not informed of fees until agent going to deliver to me. Original customs receipt was attached with items. I just pay to the shipping agent.

So, still quite satisfied w the whole transaction... though might be able to save rm100 if packing was done to a minimum volumetric weight... 🤔

Lesson learnt: for future transactions must tell merchant to pack smartly... 😎

Called them. They said custom detains randomly. I got the letter today. Didn’t say exactly what’s wrong with my items other than need to declare all again. I’m very sure the box contains invoice on the outside for customs reference but I guess they want to earn some money from me.

That freight RM535.54 must be from forwarding agent in P.Pinang dealing with Pulau Pinang's customs.

Seriously only in Pulau Pinang so far I know they have this kind of thing. Usually target DHL forwarding services. Even if your item stated clearly on the invoice the shipping cost with signature, they will suka-suka put RM535.54 as if no shipping cost written in the invoice.

Thats why I ban DHL and Fedex for a long time now, and ask the international seller to ship to me using courier that link to Pos Malaysia.
Customs that work in Pos Malaysia Office will use the shipping cost on the inovice to calculate the CIF ( cost + insurance + freight ) and not put RM535.54 suka suka hati like the Pulau Pinang forwarding agent and customs.

And I tried to find this RM535.54 in Federal Gazette related to customs taxes, but I can't find it. Public should be aware of this.

This kind of practise really shady and I still keep the evidence until now.

Do you have a list of couriers that link to Postpone Malaysia please?

can you check your invoice issued by seller for Kastam declaration? it could be that the shipping cost only listed in packing slip but not the invoice that Kastam checks.

i read in earlier post that is  because the invoice issued by the seller did not include the shipping cost, only the item cost. so Kastam will quote the XXX freight charges from the carrier (FedEx in this case).
*
Probably too late a reply but my seller told me 'they can't input the international shipping fee onto the supporting documents manually' and that the final preparation of the shipping papers is done by FedEx. I have also called/messaged FedEx's customer service but they didn't understand and tried to 'explain (we can't do anything)'; basically telling me to 'pay up' or have it returned.

I recently have a package (low value (even with shipping, it's RM460 but what is luck anyway), just a lot of used items/dead stock/junk stuffed into one auction lot but huge package) shipped via Japan Post and it's stuck in Customs. Didn't know how heavy it was until I paid for shipping.
Have appointed Pos Malaysia to clear my package but seeing as it's a 'junk lot', there's no detailed list of the items, value nor quantity.

Not sure how it'll turn out and hoping for the best.

My second parcel is detained by customs.

Question, if I havent sorted out my first parcel which is still with customs (and the 15 days limit is approaching), should I drive to KLIA to claim two parcels. I'm thinking to save some money but I'm afraid they will claim two separate orders are less than RM500 individually but when add them up, it's more than RM500. In that case, it's not worth it for me to drive all the way there and instead just ask Poslaju to help me settle with some additional fee.

Both parcels are supplements.

Any thoughts? kherel77
