That freight RM535.54 must be from forwarding agent in P.Pinang dealing with Pulau Pinang's customs.

Seriously only in Pulau Pinang so far I know they have this kind of thing. Usually target DHL forwarding services. Even if your item stated clearly on the invoice the shipping cost with signature, they will suka-suka put RM535.54 as if no shipping cost written in the invoice.

Thats why I ban DHL and Fedex for a long time now, and ask the international seller to ship to me using courier that link to Pos Malaysia.
Customs that work in Pos Malaysia Office will use the shipping cost on the inovice to calculate the CIF ( cost + insurance + freight ) and not put RM535.54 suka suka hati like the Pulau Pinang forwarding agent and customs.

And I tried to find this RM535.54 in Federal Gazette related to customs taxes, but I can't find it. Public should be aware of this.

This kind of practise really shady and I still keep the evidence until now.

Anyone can shade light on this question?
If I buy 3 items of different design, each item bout rm100+, add in those IATA freight charge maybe another rm200, will I be charge custom duty on the entire shipment?
Or does it only apply to the exact same items?

Another similar scenario...
What if the shipment contains assorted items, some items rated 0%, some 20%, how do they actually calculate the CIF value? It will be bad if the max rate is used on the entire shipment....☹

I live in Selangor but encountered the same problem thrice. I still keep the papers from Customs and submitted a complaint (with documents and everything) but the status remains as 'under investigation' since September.

Likewise, I'm also staying away from private shipping companies.

can you check your invoice issued by seller for Kastam declaration? it could be that the shipping cost only listed in packing slip but not the invoice that Kastam checks.

i read in earlier post that is because the invoice issued by the seller did not include the shipping cost, only the item cost. so Kastam will quote the XXX freight charges from the carrier (FedEx in this case).

Depend on what items. Different parts carry different Tariff Code & % of duties/taxes.

hi All (especially those who are experts like kherel77, mistyblue etc)

if item is educational toy looks like iPad but without "clean" screen. The screen is just full of rows+columns to press button and make light+sound. Size is like iPad

I search the HS codes and it most probably will be 8471. 30

Anyone got experience on this and want to share how much tax and duties, the total shipment will cost RM3+k

Do I need to tell anything specific to the seller regarding the invoice and shipping amount? It is FREE shipping but I have asked him to put some number in the shipping charges and reduce the per unit total so comes to the actual total I paid him.

I already ask to not use FedEx or DHL and just use USPS express

Can others please help list out things that i need to pay attention to.

I am trying to avoid paying tax and other irrelevant charges as this will be for kids attending a charity language school.

Thank you in advance

Depends on item... so far I've only brought in like 10 sets of wheels from Japan... each time I get taxed %30 of the total (item price + shipping)

List out the items in details.
Provide me exporter's country.
Provide the weight.

I'l try find the Tariff Code & IATA freight rate.
% of duties/taxes is on individual item, not entire shipment.

Something like LeapFrog Learning Tablet? it should under 9503.00.9900 which carry 10% tax. #9503 is classified under Toys.
Shipping invoice must be detail in description as Customs first check is by the invoice.
Shipping charge is between you and seller. Not count in duty/tax calculation.

With RM3k++ invoice value, it's hard to dogde the tax...

p/s: i'm not expert doh.gif

Hi,

The carrier agent usually will notify u on the tax that need to pay. It is depends on the tariff code that they declare. You will know once they contact u.

Hi There,

Does anyone know how to use this site?
http://mysstext.customs.gov.my/tariff/

I'm trying to check the HS code and duty for golf equipment. I selected the following
Tariff type = PDK 2017
Search criteria = Item description
Keyword = Sports or Golf

But when I click on the link for the HS code e.g. 4203.21.0000 I get a blank table! I tried with different Tariff types (in the first field) but I get the same blank table.

Any help would be appreciated!

It have 0% import duty + 10% SST

Thanks kherel, I got it.

Do you know if golf club shafts and grips (parts of the golf club) are under HS code 4203.21 (Specially designed for use in sports)? I did a search for "clubs" and there another category 9506.31 (Clubs, complete) but this seems to refer to complete, assembled clubs.
