E-sata Port biggrin.gif

This sager np8690 got e-sata port,it can't be use it on the first time, it cant seem to detect it at all.

All u need are, download the Intel® Matrix Storage Manager from the link given. E-sata port are handled by intel ich-x southbridge chipset directly.

Intel® Matrix Storage Manager

1. Plug in ur device, external HDD/DVD
2. Install the driver.
3. Restart after done installing.

Now, u can do what ever on blazing speed of e-sata... drool.gif

Taken from NBR, edit it for lowyat.NET

p.s: can be use if ur laptop got esata port too...laugh.gif laugh.gif

yeah, money is the key. imma a student summore, hate to use my scholarship or begging for my parents (like someone did) for my own toy like this.

don't worry much about temp. its mostly depend on lappy's ventilation itself. MBP is one of the good example.

battery life is the only unsolvable problem. even using 9 cell, i doubt you can last an more than an hour when that monster inside your machine... sweat.gif

9 cells cant last more than an hour? the power consumption really scary rclxub.gif

other than carry extra battery, we can only prolong the battery life a bit by using power saver, silent mode and off wifi.

price is tempting, but too bad it still using i7 Mobility for the processor. its really major disadvantage for me, personally.

looking from its physical view, its not really think though. at least not as bad as what posted in GTX480M thread in Mobile Computing... sweat.gif

i feel like the brick is about 1/4 of the laptop weight, i wonder if other gaming laptop like alienware also have the same size of brick, my power brick is slightly larger, than my friend's DV6 brick.

1/4 is way too heavy.. sweat.gif

Alienware All Powerful power brick is plausible. not like the previous version smile.gif don't know about Sager's power brick though.

Guys, im planning to buy this awesome np8690 from mucro asia :drool
but before that, i got a few questions in my mind:
1) I've got a tight budget so maybe ill be opting for the i5-520 processor.. If in the future i want to upgrade to i7 or any other processors with 4 cores, is that possible?
2) Should i upgrade the warranty?
3) If i want to RMA it for some unfortunate reasons, how is it done? And how long will it take before i can get a new/repaired unit?
4) I heard buying a Windows OS seperately cost more than buying the OEM one, but most of the people buying np8960 opt for no OS.
So if im buying np8690, should in include the OS?
5) Last question, is upgrading the thermal paste worthwhile? Or should ijust do it myself since i heard some np8690 owners saying sager sometimes screw up on this part.. sad.gif
Sorry if I have asked so many questions tongue.gif .. Its just that i hope i can know more about this laptop before buying it since i hope itwill last me for quite some time. I hope all the senseis n sifu here will enlighten me.. smile.gif ... np8690 rawks!

I think you should wait till Sager / Clevo releases a laptop with USB 3.0 + SATA III .

2 months means you're going over to the UK ?

There's a new 17" by Clevo coming out this month with the nVidia 480GT . Probably wait for that and see what comes with it smile.gif

That model will cost a bomb, around 8 to 9k ringgit, forget about that...

1. I think its upgradeable
2. No need as the warranty as sager notebooks rarely have any prob
3. If RMA, you gotta send it to mucro KL repair shop, not sure how long its gonna take though
4. Well if you go around and compare the price between buying the OS from mucro or buying standalone OS, just go for the cheaper. Personally I will just buy OS from mucro...
5. Its optional since sager dont have any heat problem. I think Mucro is the one doing termal paste, not sager.

Hope that helps!

I'll just add a bit of info on that point. In my experience, it's better that you do the paste job yourself. Mucro/Sager might apply a little bit too much and will cause some heating issues. Check my previous posts in this thread to see their work.

+1

You can practically do a whole lot of things to the laptop and it won't void your warranty. I did one stupid thing.. Using a paperclip to put more pressure on the ATi GPU... The card "broke" and I sent it back to Mucro and now awaiting for replacement because Sager ultimately decides what happens with your warranty. What I did was, cut the can, put on the paper clip, practically burnt the circuitry of the GPU while testing to see if it was the problem when my laptop couldn't start and now a new one is coming to replace it. I think you can gauge the "void warranty" issue by looking at my case here. icon_rolleyes.gif

Update:

1.30pm: New card arrived. rclxm9.gif

Im impressed with the warranty given by mucro asia. Makes me think of upgrading the waranty. ^^. If i want to upgrade the warranty, which waranty should i choose? I mean either upgrading the parts waarnty or the labour warranty? Which is more worthwhile? ><
