Its better to go for higher capacity, if ur going for a 2.5" u can opt for a 500GB one.. Its quite cheap these days |

QUOTE(jimmylim85 @ Apr 9 2009, 10:52 PM) Guys, will the wd 1tb green power best bang per buck for usage as storage, gaming and hd movies playback. For storage and HD movie playback, the 1 TB 32 MB cache Green Power (WD10EADS) is excellent because of its low power requirements and good transfer speeds. And the first 20% of the disk has about 80 MB/s transfer speed and good access time, which is more than good enough for gaming or the OS.Yes, the Blue or Black stuff are much faster, but they are just wasted on mass storage duties. If you are migrating from a slower hard disk, the WD10EADS is a reasonable choice for greater performance, decent pricing, cooler and less wattage required. Below is a looping animation of six benchmark results. ![]() |

That's strange. Being a 1TB drive, I would have expected better performance compared to the WD640 blue.

The Green runs at 5400 rpm, compared to Blue or Black's 7200 rpm.
WD's official line is that the Green runs between 5400 and 7200 rpm. This post has been edited by everling: Apr 29 2009, 11:37 PM |

Thanks. It gets hard when manufacturer ratings are vague. Such a wide span of spin rates. The slower speed may be for compensating higher tolerances for platter discrepancies.

Well, in reality, how much faster is the Caviar Black when compared to Caviar Green anyway? Any specific benchmark?

well if that compared to the 640GB Blue benchmark posted previously, the Blue is having better transfer rates, only the Black has faster seek times
so does this say that WD Blue ~= WD Black? |
