http://techreport.com/articles.x/16472This is a review of Seagate's Barracuda 7200.12 hard drive. I was looking to buy one but after reading the review, I changed my mind. Decided to go with Western Digital's 640GB unit. This post has been edited by sUBs: Mar 4 2009, 03:21 AM

QUOTE(jimmylim85 @ Mar 21 2009, 12:25 AM) Guys, based on your recommendation. I wanted a Primary HDD for OS use which is performance based. Seagate 500GB Barracuda 7200.12 or Western Digital 640GB Green Power? Get WD Blue - WD6400AAKS

You misunderstand him. He's not admonishing you. It's just not that easy to explain. Green means power saving but that's at the expense of performance. WD black is good but price needs to be considered. To learn more about the difference, you shall need to google.

QUOTE(jimmylim85 @ Mar 21 2009, 09:49 PM) Between Blue and Green, is it Blue gives more performance than Green does? Btw is seagate 500GB barracuda 7200.12 good? http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=24096245Kindly read this earlier post. It was somewhat of a revelation for me. Review was about Seagates but note how WD performed. Go for WD Blue 640GB. It gives the best bang for buck This post has been edited by sUBs: Mar 21 2009, 10:05 PM

When I last checked, some shops were selling for around RM220 last week.

I got mine from Viewnet 10 days ago. Try giving them a call.

If you're including courier charges, that may explain it. It's listed as RM214 on their online price list. Don't you have any pc shops in Ipoh?

In truth, price decreased. It was previously listed at RM224 at Viewnet. That was 10 days ago.

AFAIK, SV35 isn't really an Enterprise version disk. It's a drive, designed specifically for digital video surveillance recording. They have large caches & are designed to be located in drive cases that may get quite warm (70C). Not really meant for general purpose computing. Found you some data about SV drives. http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showpost...644&postcount=7

Of all hard disk brand/models, may I ask why you are specifically worried about Caviar Black? It's supposed to be one of the better ones around. To get any better results would mean investing in an enterprise version.

That's strange. Being a 1TB drive, I would have expected better performance compared to the WD640 blue.

Thanks. It gets hard when manufacturer ratings are vague. Such a wide span of spin rates. The slower speed may be for compensating higher tolerances for platter discrepancies.
