QUOTE(sUBs @ Mar 21 2009, 08:29 PM) You misunderstand him. He's not admonishing you. It's just not that easy to explain. Green means power saving but that's at the expense of performance. WD black is good but price needs to be considered. To learn more about the difference, you shall need to google. i have one question. If i'm going to use the harddisk as external connecting to pc using USB 2, is there going to be much difference in performance between the blue and green or even black?

WD is the most reliable. Well don't depend on only 1 hdd if u backup stuff, thats why i have 2 external 1TB as backups for all my stuffs. Currently i have 5 hdds, 3 WD, 1 Seagate and 1 Maxtor. Don't know much about Hitachi hdds...

But if you wanted to buy some HDD for a long run and ready raid then must count on a brand only right?

I have 2 WD HDD and 3 Seagates. The latest I bought is Seagate 7200.11 1TB. Don't know if you guys noticed this.... From Vista test, both WD HDDs gives gives 110+ MB/s for burst speed and about 72+MB/s for sustained speed. Seagate on the other hand will be somewhat opposite, giving 94+MB/s burst and 120+MB/s sustained.... Interesting.... any idea which speed is more important?

I don't know why but my rig has been acting weirdly lately. It takes me ages to load some pictures in my D Drive. I use a 2RAM rig and I doubt I should be facing that type of problem. I think I probably need to change to a new hard disk. How much would a 100gb hard disk cost?

Don't think you're gonna be able to find new 3.5" 100GB HDD nowadays.... even 160GB is a little difficult I think. Or did you mean 1000GB ie 1TB? 1TB is about rm330 depending on brand and series. You can always check the garage or LYN main page for pricelists

Why do u want to open the Elements or Mybook casing? I think it would be quite hard to open it coz there's no screws in the casing. You would have to rip out the casing... I would recommend, if you need to open the casing, better get a hdd and 3.5 casing. But price wise, its better to just buy a 1TB like WD external like home, mybook, elements etc, its much cheaper
