in some cases you are able to retrieve using software, if can't then you can try professional data backup services. but that's gonna cost you quite some money.
i don't know about the cooling fan, but the formatting thing isn't true. formatting doesn't affect your hard disk life. you can format everytime, your hard disk will still run as it is.

Try this but it's works for few times and bye bye HDD
Usually if it's the heating problem (old HDD) put your HDD in a sealed vacuum bag and throw it into a freezer for like 12 hours. Take out quickly plug in become slave and start transferring data. If the HDD fails again, start step 1. Usually works few times.

Hey all. I wanna ask. 7200 rpm vs 5200 rpm, does the durability of both differs? If both runs 24/7, is 5200 rpm still more durable because of its speed(slower means less wear and tear)? Or just a myth?

QUOTE(steellusion @ Jun 22 2009, 12:51 PM) hi guys.. just asking.. between seagate baracuda n wd , which one is better? plan to buy another hdd for my pc.. tq In terms of better, I think both are the same. But in terms of long lasting, I think Seagate is better. This is just based on my experiences around me, WD causing a lot of problems (if you're unlucky). I've been using Seagate for about 3 years, so far so good. Same goes to Samsung, my oldest partner ever, more than 5 years(I think 8 years already), not a single problem. Well, it's all up to you which one you prefer and which you trust the most.

QUOTE(Radeon @ Jun 22 2009, 11:14 PM) so does wd unless you pay for the black Black and green edition only differ in price around RM20++ . Can get Black edition *RM 355 last time check at garage sale. Little expensive compared to SG 1TB that mayb around *RM 345. ----> Erm Have a question. Rite now im using Seagate 7200.10 ( 320 Gb, 16 cache ). If i switch to WD black, can feel noticeable improvement in performance? Raptor is too costly *Corrected This post has been edited by pergilahsayang: Jun 30 2009, 09:25 PM
