if use garmin on my n78, dunid to pay any data charges rite? using built in GPS...
because it seems like i just lost rm2 earlier jznw and i didnt call anyone @.@

i currently using garminxt with malsingmap..but i found that malsingmap is not up to date...thus now i decide to go for MFM ...thus, do i need to uninstall my previoud Malsingmap before i install the MFM? can any sifu show me how to uninstall

i have my Nokia E71,Touch Pro ,and iphone 3G 8gig ,but so far i just succeed trying my GPS on iphone,the rest,i dont even know how to use them at all,Nokia seems to speculate softwares,intended to enhance it,but infact they're troubling their users.Htc touch pro still can be learnt,but it takes time,as am not travelling too much,so i dont think of exploring the GPS applictions in my pro,but E71 ,the most common phone with me of all time,this phone is very complicated,kinda break my head to find a way out,till now i have no way to use them tho.what a useless Mapking,they charged me.but no Maps out.

Today I installed malfreemap + malfree topo map. Will try whether it looks different or not and also the speed performance or any issues.

Have not tried the camera-speed POI though, so far no alert from it. Federal highway got ?

that is human bug not software bug or problem.

I been using alternative software on nokia for many years. Iphone is chargable for data. Other software GPS is FREE

Yes malsingmaps having the most complete Sarawak & Sabah currently Malfreemaps has just released the Labuan, KK & Sandakan maps. No Sarawak maps yet. Probably soon

Well I can say 1 thing is GPS in Iphone is totally useless because it requires 3G connection which is not practical for us unless they've subscribe unlimited data package.

Nokia phone can be said to be having the best software choice for GPS just like WinMo because users are allowed to install the software preference of their own and using custom map like Malsing and Malfree totally give the best out of GPS in Malaysia.

I noticed some posts were disappeared from this thread.

Someone mentioned that we can have two maps in the Garmin folder. Malsingmap and Malfreemap.
Malsingmap - Gmapsupp.img
Malfreemap - Gmapsup2.img

When these two maps put in the Garmin folder, how does Garmin know which map to use?
Is there a setting where we can select which map to use?

To view the maps there, u need to install mapsource. u can get it by googling for "Garmin mapsource"

However free version is abit outdated i.e Jan 2008. The locked version are for those who contribute (Not monetary but via contribution of tracklogs, point of interest & errors.

B4 installing to your GPS receiver (Either Garmin, Nokia Symbian or even PDA Window mobile) pls read the wiki 1st on what is GPS, what softwares, how to install & how to contribute. It's rather long to post here..

Yes it it's possible, Garmin will treat both valid & overlapping each others. If both files are from diff regions no problem, but once overlapped, lotsa funny thingy will happen..one of it that I hate....I can't do address search!!

MFM v1.42 + topo map on N82 v31 with GMXT 5.00.20 testing with Full POI and roads map. Very lag and slow compared to MSM v2.30. I already reach traffic light, and the graphics is still processing and showing me moving 50-100 towards the traffic light. Or, I'm at highway and already pass an interchange, it still shows me driving towards the interchange.

Will keep monitor.

Did you install the additional POI in the POI folder?
If yes, try again without those POI.

sifus, i like to ask which location format i should use? in garmin there are selections for -

1. hddd.ddddd°
2. hddd°mm.mmm'
3. hddd°mm'ss.s"
4. british grid

I like to know the most common method used. for example i want to tell someone my coordinates, if i tell them using method 1. but they set using method 2. then ma very susah?

One more thing. I find that when I set it to method no.2 but when I send sms location, the method is using no.1 Why like that?

Which ever format use, the garmin unit, mapsource & even google earth will auto detect & convert it..

stimix seen u alot in malsing and MLM forum alot anyway can u guide us how to read the Garmin GPS bars.

Sometimes i see 4 bars sometimes i see 13 bars. IN satellite view

Can't be 13 bars...Max in Garmin MXT/que only 12 ....Well the bars represent the signal strenght of each satelite.If only 4 bars & the bars in in blue, meaning it's fixed & the data is processed by the unit. If other colours or blank/greyish, the unit still acquiring signals from satelites..If u have an ext antenna, u will see all those weak bars suddenly increase to almost max except if u are surrounded by highrises in KL
