Also confuse.... rclxub.gif
I saw some forumer said got "ghost" shadow in the screen, is the low frequency panel causing that??

Anyway, wat is 24P True Cinema??
Thanks

Yes. Screen "Ghosting" are caused by slow refresh of LCD (usually 60Hz) as compared to Plasma (>100Hz) Panels especially when fast movement is shown hence the creation of higher frequency panels.

24P True Cinema is a function found in the LZ800 series which recreate extra frames in cinematic movie (usually shot in 24 fps) for example in a movie you will :

usually see frame : 1...2...3...4

instead

you will see frame : 1...2...2...3...3...3...4

This will making the movements in the film silky smooth. Similar function usually can found in high end (expensive) LCDs (or Plasma) such as Sony X series, Samsung 6-9 series and Philips 5403 series and above. The effect however is not likely to be accepted by everyone as it make the film look like a home video but you can turn it off

Some things I extracted from "interesting read"

QUOTE
Plasmas still offer the best value in the 50+ sizes and the best contrast and color reproduction -- which any videophile will tell you is way more important than brightness, which seems to be sole reason why the masses prefer LCD. And plasmas aren't completely in the grave yet -- in fact, most of the biggest manufactures still sell plasmas including Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Hitachi, Pioneer, and Vizio. In fact, recently things have actually started to turn around for the PDP sector. The most notable trend is that the latest plasmas from Hitachi, Pioneer, LG, and Panasonic all pass the latest stringent Energy Star requirements of the 208-Watt "on mode" and less than 1-Watt "standby mode." And the market is showing this comeback as well which is indicated by the latest DisplaySearch report which showed that plasma sales grew by 37 percent year-over-year in the third quarter of 2008 -- in a time that is very hard time for any market to show growth.

and from same article..

QUOTE
So while no technology can be successful forever, plasma has at the very least a few years left, and we believe it won't be LCD that will kill it. The only technology that actually seems poised to replace it is OLED, and with the biggest (and only) consumer model at 11-inches, there is plenty of time left on the clock for plasmas. That being said, we only see two main markets for plasmas moving forward as LCDs continue to grow in size and shrink in price. The first being videophiles who demand the best contrast and color money can buy, and the second being value shoppers looking for a way to buy a 60-inch TVfor as close to $2000 as possible. But with the latest LCD LED-backlit displays making huge strides in color and contrast, and Laser TVs hitting the streets, anyone who tells you they know what is going to happen in the next 18 to 24 months has no idea what they're talking about

and i almost forgot the first part..

QUOTE
Although the debate between LCD and plasma has raged on for years, the real battle only started two years ago when manufacturers started producing LCDs big enough to go head to head with plasmas. Now that it has been raging for two years, we've seen some interesting trends develop. LCDs have been very successful at pushing plasma out of its most popular size, 42-inches, and some manufacturers have stopped producing that size all together. Also a result of the success of LCDs, the number of plasma manufactures has decreased over the past two years. Pioneer is the most notable to announce its plan to stop producing its own plasmas starting with the next model and will instead buy glass from Panasonic, but Hitachi and Phillips have also announced similar plans -- and Fujitsu got out of the display business all together. Some might use these events combined with the latest green movement to conclude that plasma is dead, but not so fast.

Still, I have no regret being in a plasma camp!! thumbup.gif

Too many pointless debates about Plasma and LCDs.

Pack a few Astro recordings of EPL matches, DVDs, BDs, PS3, etc, go to a friendly shop, test them on both the plasma and LCD under lighting close to your home lighting, and buy the one that looks more pleasing to you.

It's YOUR eyes, YOUR money. Don't let any so-called "experts" confuse you. At the end of the day, all you want from a TV is great PQ, not a whole bunch of mumbo-jumbo tech.

Always determine a good TV by the PQ, not the supposed tech behind it. Who cares if a set is 480hz or led-backlit if my Astro EPL matches still look crap on it?

Heh heh, I guess the answer to that is to pick the flat panel that the match looks the least crappy on...

1. Well no point to record astro/epl as the source is already SD. No matter if you recorded it in DVD/VCD/VCR - to source is still SD, It might become more degraded if recorded via VCD/VCR. For BD/PS3, the source is already HD, so no much worry there - just to see the best PQ and Details. Astro will always look crap on LCD and Plasma - so you need only to find the least crappy of both world. Again that depand also on your choice of monitor and your sources.

2. No body here claimed to be an "expert". Just a friendly forum to discussed the pros and cons of having a flat panel. You might wanna ask other forumer experience in PQ of plasma or lcd base on their setup. Different people have diff setup - even a sony BD player vs panasonic BD player give different PQ. If you really wanna take into account all the faxtors that affect PQ is so many...

3. yes, i agree PQ is diff, number is diff. For me PQ is the main factor (beside money).. smile.gif

underworld, take a look at the Toshiba regza 32AV550 too. I just got one last week, quite satisfy with the unit. You can get good price from sellers here as well.

Only a few places I knew demo the unit with proper HD disc. No harm comparing with the rest of your choice. Besides, its the latest model, but HD ready only.

I went to Denki just now to check out the 50pv80 which many claim here as the best bang for the money now.

I am ready to plunge my moo after reading review here.

When i get there, what i saw is just grainy PQ. I am standing about 3 meter away from the plasma. What is the best distance to view the 50" plasma? The source is dvd through BD player. I refused to view the manufacturer display disc cos that is already manipulated source.

50pv80 owners, can you please share with me your viewing distance and the overall PQ when viewing DVD. Thanks!

You should have brought your own favourite dvd. Maybe they used low quality one. What cable connection did they use? HDMI? Which DVD player?
