Bro, on the 600/610, in order to get multichannel SACD, can we use HDMI? I read somewhere we can only use the multichannel analogue outs. Is it true?

My PS3 was the original 80GB version that supports SACD, I can use the HDMI for multichannel SACD.

Theoretically, yes, but depending on the input or recording....It wont be up to bluray scale.
Ppl. always say, shit goes in, shit comes out. To get the very best in video images, I usually download bluray (.mkv) stuff and convert to DVD using convertxtodvd.
Easy to say, image will be slightly better than normal dvd...thats all.
*
Yeah, can burn using the ConvertXtoDVD. But the 720p/1080p resolution of the MKV will be downconverted to 480p, just like a normal DVD. Maybe better color and black level, but ultimate details and sharpness will be lost. The best way to enjoy MKV in it's original HD resolution is by using an HD media center, like the recently released WD, or the HDX, PopcornHour, etc. Or can remux to MP4 header and watch it on the PS3.

Positives of the 600/610 and even the 400/410 is that the firmware modifications that are carried out by Hkan unlocks a lot of options that are not included in the initial firmware..Another major plus for this is that it can output 480i signals, very good for those who have AVRs that have better scalar chips. Pioneer's original firmware does not enable BTB and WTW but with the firmware hack this is enabled. Plus a host of others. PM me if anyone is interested in the Pioneer DV-600/610/400/410 modded firmware site.

Aiman,

It does do SACD over HDMI. See excerpt of manual..

Can any of the current crop of HDMI DVD players support movies coded in H.264 codec? There are many good quality movies which are available for free download from the Internet coded in H.264 format.

Many of the DVD players are Divx and MP4 certified but couldn't play the H264 movies.

i dun think any can play mkv files...not sure if Xbox360 or PS3 can play it as well...

But one thing I know is if you wanna go HD and also a download junky...there is no better player than Dvico.
http://www.dvico.com/

There are also budget models like popcornhour etc
http://www.popcornhour.com/onlinestore/

But the current talk abt very affordable multimedia player is WD TV.

Or else you can always hookup your PC to the Plasma/LCD TV.

Or...convert the mkv files to DVD format using ConvertXtoDVD, you'll get better visuals than the normal DVD.

cheers

Thinking of getting the Pioneer DV410 for RM380. Is this a good deal? Have asked around for the DV610 and the best price that I got was RM550 only. I don't think that I will need SACD and DVD-Audio capability from DV610.

The cheapest DV-410V that I can source recently is RM410/= c/w HDMI complimentary pack from Pioneer. RM380 is indeed cheap! rclxms.gif

I asked around. The price has fallen considerably of late. Try TBM, they said RM380 COD.

A & L Sg Wang also offer the 610 at RM480 with free HDMI cable thrown in. Am going to pick mine up from Rick this evening (work schedule permitting)...

What i dont understand is that these places usually charge a 2% or 3% surcharge over the cash price when paying by CC, so the price if paying by CC should only be RM494.40 if the charge is 3%. Why did they quote RM560?
