Try to keep cost below RM 400 for 1080p dvd player.. else y not get a ps3 which is just double the price..(refer to Pioneer DV610 )
*
I agree, if were to buy Pioneer DV6110, PS3 is an alternative that should not be neglected.
However, i heard that PS3 is not a good player for playing VCD though sweat.gif any comment on that?
If that's true, at least those HDMI player will be a better companion for VCD..anyhow of course switching to the DVD is a must..but sometimes still some of those good movies not found in DVD, so turning into the VCD is unavoidable.

Thanks for the summary!
As I was just about to ask which player would be the best buy right now. biggrin.gif

Earlier I set my eyes on the Philips.. at RM330 I think it's a good price. I think I saw it at Carrefour.
having read the specifications on the box, I did not recalled the capabilities of playing SACD or DVD-A..
Eventhough I do not have any related software to that it would be nice to have it for future 'growth'.. tongue.gif

Anybody have any comments? Thanks!

And also true though, someone give me a big hit..a good hit anyway that to buy the HDMI Player top up with Home Theater Component system, as we know that somehow in time we might want to change player to blu-ray or upgrade the player, buying the HTIB in box might get us into trouble when we want to do that, as the speaker point might not be the same, and thus buying a component home theater will avoid this problem

However we do know that the famous brand home theater component system always are very expensive due to the combining of AV receiver, good speakers...etc....and thus i am now very interested in the SONY recent out HTF2300 and by reading the specs, it interests me more as some of the specs are really future proof, and still the price is between RM1600-RM1700 and thus buying this add up with the good HDMI player will play the same role as HTIB, but offer alternative that in future if we would like to upgrade the player, we can do that with ease and no complications at all.

One question though, is combining the same company, say SONY HDMI player with SONY HTF2300, will have more benefit or any better quality in whatever compare to using PHILIP HDMI player with SONY HTF2300. Have heard about little bit of compatible signal issue, but is that REALLY any difference?

But if DV610 pair with the Home Theater component, the new Sony HTF2300, will it be an advantage or disadvantage? or just anything to consider?

Any better Home Theater Component system that can pair with this gem (DV610)?

The important thing is DV610 won't be picky on discs will do..because still ahem dvd is the major baby play inside..wink.gif

just bought a philips 5996...satisfy with it.. smile.gif

Philips 5996 is a good player, considering that its price and also with USB function. Sony 708 is nice too, but too bad no USB, lose a lot here...although both plays excellent PQ...i'm still in the eye for DV610 though..that specs are too difficult to resist....especially that the price is going low already till RM650.

I think A&L sells it for RM650. I just came back from Hiway Laser and they are selling DV610 at RM750 and DV410 at RM450.
*
What is A&L?

A forumer posted the thread of buying at RM650 in the previous V1. From Penang, i have asked, it's possible if you bundled purchase with other thing such as the Home Theater System or TV... sweat.gif

My favorite salesman at Amcorp A&L currently went holiday oversea. I can ask him when he come back next week. Always got a good price from him. I'm thinking of getting DV410 for my bedroom setup.
*
please update here if can get DV610 at RM650 when he comes back. If yes, then you might want to tell him that there are few forumer would purchase from him..as A&L will get a lot of publicity for DV610 purchase.

Hi guys,
Seems like there are lots of talking about Pioneer HDMI player, especially DV610. How does it compare to Sony 708 in terms of PQ and AQ ?? Some of my friends say they make no difference, only the price are different for both units, true ? *_*
*
Few Things:

1) DV610 support MPEG4, DIVX, ALL OTHER MAJOR FORMATS, but Sony 708 doesn't support MPEG4, and most importantly, Sony 708 no USB, the biggest weakness ;(

2) DV610 support copy from CD to USB as MP3

3) DV610 support SACD and HD Audio, while Sony 708 no.

Price different is only RM300

Talking about dvd player..RM 300 is a lot wor.. hehehe
I don't think it is a wise idea to invest in dvd players anymore.

Next year, I think blu-ray players will be getting cheaper..y not start saving $$$ to buy one?
*
Yah still, the USB is the main concern, as now they are the biggest convenience for files playing.
If bluray with all the features like Pioneer one...walao...that will be the best investment..but in reality,
once bluray in, they will be unlikely to add in the same features

So i advise to invest in one good DVD player, and also 1 cheaper bluray profile 2.0 (haha, in my dream only, where got cheaper profile 2.0 bluray, such as US)

Another solution is just burn the files to DVD-RW....should take less than 10 mins ...ur dvd player should be able to read it. smile.gif

y wanna pay few hundred bucks just for the usb function (if that is ur biggest concern) ?
*
ya you are right..
but convenience is always customer concern..that's only one of the concern, biggest of mine..
of course not only USB concern, there are few more

A) SACD and Audio DVD support which cannot found in SONY 708 or PHILIP 5996
B) Optical out, analog 5.1 out, and also ......out (forgot)
C) Picture quality of course...Pioneer has on upper hand for the picture quality as always in the audio video thing
D) Sound quality (also Pioneer advantage)

and a few more...

Most important thing is its sensitivity level in reading discs. Of course if your source are all original not much of problem. But when comes to ahem one, be warned. Some branded model players encounter problem of jump track during playback. brows.gif

Ya, Pioneer DV610 famous in reading any chap-pa-lang discs...even scratch disc..

renowned as the same for Philips 5996, and also Sony 708H

On top of its upscaling capability, the DV-SL2200W is compatible with DivX-encoded DVDs and comes with a universal serial bus slot for playback of digitally recorded photo stills.
The USB is only for photo still? too bad... hmm.gif

Second me, i wish to buy DV610 as well. From the previous post, the cheapest they get is RM650. Wonder what it will cost by December, as my new home is ready by then, so buying right at that time should be more worth it.
