For 3G users, once you jailbroken your 3G iphone and if iTunes do not recognized your phone, please follow this steps;

Close iTunes and navigate to the following directory:

XP - C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Apple Computer
Vista - C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer

Delete the LOCKDOWN folder. Launch iTunes and the iPhone should be recognized with no errors.

Note - If you don't see a LOCKDOWN folder in the path above, try:

XP - C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer
Vista - C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Apple Computer

Just an observation here, no lagginess even while on 2.0.1 and 2.0.2. I have tons of contacts, and each of them(except for the overseas ones) have two separate numbers, one with the 01XXXXXXXX, and +601XXXXXXXX, and no lags here.

for example, if i select "G" from the vertical alphabets list on the right, it can sometimes be not responsive.

Well depends also what apps you install. If to do a comparison, make sure it is in original state

Mine was. I specifically moved to 2.0.2 on a clean slate, to see if it indeed fixes anything. As responsive as 2.0.1. Then I added the apps and sync the movies, songs and the rest in.

Mmmm ... i have tons of apps from Cydia and few from App Store. No laggs whatsoever. It snap to the letter that i select as well scrolling is smooth.

it has been like that upon restoring (and i have done that three times). will move to a higher fw whenever feasible.

Yeah ... i was bored stiff last night that i've even think to move to 2.0.2 but luckily my mind was swayed away by winterboard theming. If not today is another day will be spent to re-organize everything back.

The third party "cut and paste" got me excited for a while, but looks like 2.1 took care of that, slammed that door shut.

I'm facing the contact lag thingy... 2.0.1 on 1st gen iPhone... Most probably bcoz I've got loadz of contacts.

1063 Contacts, organized into 31 groups. Most contacts have at least 2 phone numbers (landline/mobile;msia/aussie), a lot have e-mail addresses and some have addresses. Oh yes, thumbnails too for whoever is in my Adium/iChat contact list, coz their display photos get transferred automatically into address book.

Phone isn't jailbroken, all apps from AppStore. 232MB free space. My phone is choking.

correct me if i'm wrong, but all first gen iphones have to be JB first before the unlocking process can take place.


assuming that you are currently in australia and since first gen iphones are not offered there, chances are your phone is probably JB.

2.0.1 on 1st gen and it's not jailbroken? Legit iPhone from AT&T or EU?

of course even if there isn't any cydia or installer icon to be seen, an iphone can still be JB.

Jailbroke+unlocked 2.0 using Pwnage Tool. Then simply did an upgrade to 2.0.1 via iTunes (not restore), which loses the jailbreak but keeps the phone unlocked. No Cydia/installer or whatever.

Maybe this is another cause of the lag. The remnants of 2.0 are still there.

Not necesarily. I've used the T-Mobile sim card that are meant for German iPhones, slipped it in my Aifontriji, and it shows up working on it.

i was referring to the first generation of the iphone.


i was very close to ask my mates to rush over to Charles de Gaulle or Gare du Nord to get the french unlocked version for me, but held back thereafter.

Aiyak ... forgot about the ability to maintain activated and unlock after upgrading (not restoring) the fw. Only fw2.0 for 1st gen have the baseband upgrade while fw2.0.2 have baseband upgrade on aifontriji. That explain the unlock state and avtivated even after upgrading. Still feeling fuzzy after sleeping at 4am last night.

My bad. Didnt try those on the Aifonej. But arent the same sims used on the iPhone 3G works as well on their iPhone EDGE? Unless they have a return scheme for every iPhone EDGE user that had upgraded to the iPhone 3G?

I did hunt around for those "unlocked" French/German Aifonej, but they are a rare breed indeed. Plus the fact that you need to proceed to Orange/T-Punkt(T-Mobile) stores and trying to relay that info to their staff, ......not a suitable arrangement for me.

The easeness of software unlocks during the Aifonej days basically negates the need to really find these fully unlocked Aifonejs.

And that what makes aifonej a rare item. Now we can get aifontriji almost everywhere but only few are unlock OTB ... until Dev team found a software unlock la.

Even the news on those fully unlocked Aifonejs are so sparse, you cant find it anywhere. And the stores I went looking have many time mistaken my search for this, for a "software unlocked" Aifonejs. I gave up explaining to them, and cancelled my search after that.

Right. So everyone is plenty excited to update to 2.0.2 to fix all those nasty bugs in 2.0 and 2.0.1 right? Well don’t bother. As far as I can tell it fixes nothing… unless you are on a 3g.

Before I say any more, I will say that the 3g baseband update to 2.08 provided me with a significant increase in signal bars for EDGE. I still cannot get 3g in my office, but my EDGE went from 2 bars to 5. If you have a 3g device, I suspect this, alone, is worth the update. Note though, the baseband update will probably neuter your ability to unlock with the upcoming unlocker from the dev team. Other benefit noted is that 3g to EDGE fallback now can occur without losing service which is nice if you’re on a call and it switches during you call.

Now then. The official release notes for the 2.0.2 firmware says “bug fixes”. So what bugs are fixed?

Reports on the internet say these bugs are fixed:

Sync time: Sync time with appstore apps takes forever. And I mean in the range of 1-2 hours. Anyways, this is not changed on 2.0. The sync time is stll horrible.

Stability: So far, 2.0.2 has crashed for me more times than 2.0 and 2.0.1 combined. In fact, the device managed to crash just sitting idle doing nothing! I mean literally the iPhone was in the dock and a few minutes later, apple logo and rebooting. App crashes have actually increased since the update. I have two devices updated and both exhibit the same behavior. If you are looking for increased stability, stay 2.0.2 does not provide it.

Contacts Lag: I never saw contacts lag in the first place and I still don’t see it now. Perhaps that is because I’m a hermit and don’t have enough contacts

Signal Bars: Ok significant gain due to 2.08 baseband for 3g. If you have a 2g, you do not get a baseband update and there will be no change here. This means if you were unlocked on 2g you will still be after the upgrade. When pwnage comes out, upgrading with pwnage will disable the baseband update (most likely) and you will not benefit from this. I am not sure if I get 3g from more locations around town or not though. I will take my iPhone out for a drive and test it. Update: I actually do get 3g more than I did on 2.0.1, but the same as I got on 2.0. 2.0.1 really was horrible for the 3g baseband.

AppStore / Cydia Lag: This is the most ridiculous bug and it’s still not fixed. Want to reproduce it easily? Install “Platinum Sudoku” followed by “Super Monkey Ball” and good luck ever installing anything from Cydia or AppStore again. It’s not as bad if you avoid the above two app installs, but it still is a pain in the back side. This is still not fixed. Our only hope is that Saurik can neuter this in Winterboard/ Mobile Substrate.

Mail Sync: As always, my mail crashed after I restored my backup just like 2.0, 2.01 etc. I can’t believe Apple would allow this problem to continue. Anyways, BossPrefs ‘fix user dir permission’ solves the problem. I guess it’s another example how the hacking community managed to fix one of Apple’s bugs. For those that don’t jailbreak? Well, I guess you can’t restore your backup.

After all those installation and uninstall, reinstall with rebooted all d stage, and even tried to DL some themes (that confirm working on this forum), its still dont show up in d list... all blanks... Tried to locate where is d themes library and yes, its all there including that saurik's default themes.... But its ok frozzy, flashing this 2.0.2 after and see if it behave d same still...

Did u use bosstools to relocate stuff? The themes symlink should be in /Library/Themes and the real folder located in /private/var/stash. Maybe the symlink got screwed up thats why its not detected properly.

You must have lots of applications from appstore, you can only speed up the backup by removing those apps. The problem is with itune not the firmware.

You can stop the backup of your phone, by typing this at the windows command(DOS) prompt.

"%CommonProgramFiles%\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\defaults.exe" write com.apple.iTunes AutomaticDeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true

to enable it again, just change the "true" to "false"

well.. yeah.. had quite alot of apps both free and paid...
not too bad as i already have the backups...

I don't find the itunes backup usefull to me since i do my backup manually. If i have a stock phone (unlock OTB n unjailbroken like string) then it would be usefull. Everytime I restore the phone, i'll just set up as new so the junk from last backup don't corrupt the system. Remember, the backup from itunes are meant for stock phones, not the jailbroken n heavily mod phones.

actually i dont mind about the backups as the most important thing is the contact in outlook... sms is not that important.. dats y i afford to cancel the backup each time.

Same here.. completely disable my backup via mac software.

For sms, i can backup the SMS.db file which has all the SMSes via

var/Mobile/Library/SMS

then when i do a fresh pwn or a restoration firmware, i can always upload the SMS.db back to the folder.

I on 2.0.1 too. But when I want to open SMS, it took 2 or 3 sec to open my msg. My msg <50 ler. T_T
