hi, a noob ques here... i heard tat not all of the nikkor lens is suitable for D40 as it dun have AF-motor... so, how can i kno which lens is suitable n which is not?? n can any1 suggest me which lens is suitable for macro shot?? thanx...

Only AF-S and AF-I lens can be used with D40.

Any Nikon lens that is not labeled "AF-S" won't auto-focus with the D40.

Anything that is labeled "Macro" or "Micro" lens is suitable for macro.

Err what kind of macro? Insect macro, go with 105mm. Product macro, you can go with the 60mm.

i was shocked when my frenz told me tat if i buy lens for my D40, den the lens wont be compatible wit any other nikon model... coz at 1st, i heard tat every lens tat compatible for D40 is aso compatible to all nikon model...

Err your friend is misleading you. All lenses that work on the D40 will work on other Nikon models.

look for the AF-S for motorized lenses to AF with D40, or look at the first page of this thread.. there is a long list there..

They are finally adding in AF motors and the first to get it is the 12-24mm f4. Hopefully the 11-16mm f2.8 will follow soon.

Yes,just bear in mind all Nikon Mounted lenses can mount on D40 including tamron,sigma etc.Nikon Mounted ok?
just that some cannot autofocus,you need to manually focus,that's it.

older lenses like AF lenses AF 50mm F1.8,or AI-S 28mm,these wont Autofocus with d40,because inside the lenses it does not have a motor.
Just remember AF-S,the S.is the one compatible for D40/x/60.

VR is nothing to do with autofocus,VR helps you to reduce your handshake when shooting in low light or at longer focal length,thus your picture won't be blur and sharp theoratically.
