Just an observation... Vietnam is always facing east so wouldn't the sun set behind ya towards the mountains instead of over the sea? hmm.gif

I lost my orientation so I just found my spot on the boat and captured whatever I could tongue.gif

I sat on the plane on the wrong side twice! When I went there, I wanted to capture rising sun but it was on the other side of the plane. Then when I went home, I wanted to capture the setting sun and again it was on the other side.

hey guys.. i tot of buying a telephoto lens for my sis as a gift who is usin a d40 in aus currently..

any recommendations?budget is less than 1k..

ļæ½ 55-200 mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX
ļæ½ 55-200 mm f/4-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR

what is the difference between the above nikkor lenses? just the inclusion of vibration reduction?

and why do they state that its only 3.6x zoom?
isnt it supposed to be somewhere near 11 or something?
coz my sony 18-70mm kit lens states 3.9x zoom...

noob here.. pls help..

p/s: i dun mind 3rd party lenses also..

The different between that 2 is just between VR and non VR. Price different as well.

3.6x zoom as it took 200 divide by 55 which equivalent to 3.6x zoom

If you take 70 divide by 18 you will get 3.9x zoom smile.gif

icic..thx for d prompt reply.. the price difference is quite steep.. one without VR is rm480 whereas with VR is rm780..
is it worth it for a telephoto lens at this price range or are there any better telephoto lenses, which is within 1k of course.......

Telephoto got a lot. 70-300 VR also consider telephoto.
55-200 actually quite a good lens and VR help in low light condition smile.gif

u may try look for the Sigma 70-300mm APO Macro, look for the version that with built-in AF motor.
No optical stabilizer like VR, but it is a good lens.. allow u to do 1:2 macro.. with some close up like raynox, u can get 1:1..

price around RM800 too.

motherker, 2 days ago I went window shopping at Pavillion Bukit Bintang. There's a camera shop on the ground floor, quite well stocked. I didn't get the name of the shop though. There I saw a Tamron AF 70-300mm lens, selling for RM799. So it's within your budget. Only thing is, I'm not sure it can AF on the D40 or not. Maybe all the sifus here can clarify...and also give their thoughts about this particular lens. You might want to check it out.

If I was in your shoes though, I'd get the Nikkor 55-200 VR. biggrin.gif Easy peasy.

P.S: If I'm not mistaken, the price is also approx RM800...I think hmm.gif
