My biggest concern is that it's very hard to get precise macro framing because the image size changes greatly (breathes) while focusing. You need to use AF-C and move yourself in and out to frame. You can't move yourself and then focus, because the image size changes so much that you can't frame unless you're in focus. This may seem silly, but it's a critical issue for macro use, and a big pain when you focus manually as most macro shooters do. The 70-180mm macro lens is much better for shooting macro all day. Breathing isn't an issue for normal use.

@mindkiller Ermmm I have not noticed what he called this "great annoyance" that he has with the 105mm.

I move my body to the front and back to get the shot I want. I seldom turn the focus ring when manual focusing.

waiting it for so long for a nikon prime.but what really stuck me is the price,if over RM1.5k,i don't feel like getting it.better opt for siggi 30mm f1.4.

usually the price for built-in-motor nikon mount of tamron / sigma lenses won't be much more expensive than the old version, it is around RM100-200 extra. Unless it is HSM from sigma.

Actually we are paying extra for the same thing for that they do for Canon mount, which got a AF motor as well, which I still can't figure out why..

no no, actually Canon DSLR didn't have the AF-motor in the body, the thing this, they have the motor on the lens. like the 50mm f1.8, they have the motor on the lens, but it is not the USM type of motor.

so, other third party companies like tamron and sigma, whenever they produce a lens for canon, they will put an AF motor inside,

for eg, the tamron SP90mm for canon, the AF motor is already inside,

or the Sigma 70-300mm APO for Canon, the AF motor is already there,
now the newer version Sigma 70-300mm APO for nikon, with AF motor, is RM150 more expensive..

yea.. all this while,

the 300D, 350D,400D,450D,1000D..they are all without AF motor on the body,
try borrow these models from a friend or try at shop, u cant see the AF pin on the mount like u see in D50,D70/s or D80.

not sure about the higher ends model like 30D,40D,5D,1D,1Ds etc.

but to cope with that, Canon launched a large series of EF and EF-S lenses with AF motor on the lenses,
thus that is not really an issue..

but for nikon, they didn't put cheap AF motor into the newer type of lenses last time when d40 released..

now they starting to put SWM into every new lenses, with AF-S prefix, SWM is faster motor, but more expensive.

Ciss, no wonder la. Last time, when I tried to explain what's the difference between AFS lenses to a Canon SLR-using friend of mine, he looked blur only. Haha, turns out his lenses are the same! Lol biggrin.gif

not all canon lenses are more expensive than nikon,

for eg.
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II only around RM330
while Nikkor AF-D 50mm f/1.8 cost around RM350-380.

Canon 18-55mm kitlens sells cheaper than Nikon 18-55mm kitlens..

but Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM is more expensive than
Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G VR IF-ED

actually it depends..
