QUOTE(xandman @ Apr 23 2009, 01:27 PM) 17-50...tammy... thanks sigma is crap... trust me... although i dun trust either of them... i trust tammy more... owh anyway...2k wont burn for me...i was worried for u... btw, the mfd minimum focus distance of the sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4.5 is 20cm and in that sense it's much better in close up shot than tammy 17-50 f/2.8 the mfd/close up capabilities of sigma 17-70 is impressive compared to tammy 17-50. that's something to think about difference : mfd Sigma 17-70 : 0.20m (max. magnification ratio 1:2.3) mfd Tamron 17-50 : 0.27m (max. magnification ratio ~1:4.5) Sigma better aperture sigma : f2.8-4.5 aperutre tamron : f2.8 constant tamron better sharpness wise on a canon: http://www.pbase.com/alexis/compare Still confused as to which is better quality wise because I've heard that tamron 17-50 has some focusing problems on d90..back focusing or something This post has been edited by alpha_company: Apr 24 2009, 12:00 AM |

So durability and built quality, which one is better?
Which would be the one that would be less likely to have probs later on? This post has been edited by alpha_company: Apr 24 2009, 07:56 AM |

QUOTE(alpha_company @ Apr 24 2009, 07:56 AM) So durability and built quality, which one is better? I have two Sigma lenses bought a few years ago. Both manual focus lenses. Somehow, Sigma applies some sort of rubbery coating on the metal lens barrel. Now these coating have become soft and gooey. The marking on the lens already come off due to this rubbery gooey substance. The smaller of my Sigma lens is also cloudy due to fungus. It is now basically useless. On the other hand, my Nikkors are still solid. Glass is clear, no gooey stuff.Which would be the one that would be less likely to have probs later on? Maybe they have changed the construction method since, but I will avoid Sigma lenses like the plague for the rest of my life. |

I'll throw another lens into the equation for you to consider. The new version of Sigma 18-50mm f2.8.
So far, I've heard good things about it and it is possibly even sharper than the Tammy. And the Tammy new version has problems when used with the D90 LV, especially at tele end if I am not mistaken. With all third party lenses, you will need to check carefully for front and back focus. Its just something you have to do. |

QUOTE(zaidi @ Apr 24 2009, 01:22 AM) some of the earlier tammy 17-50 have this front-focusing issue. the latter ones with built-in motor does not have this issue earlier tammy doesnt have built in motor laaa..so cant use on d40/d40x/d60 anyways.Added on April 24, 2009, 2:24 pm QUOTE(zio @ Apr 24 2009, 10:32 AM) I'll throw another lens into the equation for you to consider. i'm looking for cheap macro solution, can someone pls suggest which one is better for my d60 kitlense ?? 1) reverse adapter .. where should i get this thing 2) macro close-up filter 3) raynox 250 lets just assume my budget can cover up to rm300 , i just want a setup that can give me good macro at reasonable price... normal macro function with kitlens just doesn't give me extra punch and details.. i need more.. |
