get the VR version..seriously it makes a difference. i tried it for quite a while now and it's much much better than the one without VR at 200mm.

read this : http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/55-200mm-vr.htm

to be honest im thinking of not selling my 55-200... happy with the closeup/macro performance.. wanna get a raynox 202 or 250 and get betttter results for macro shots..biggrin.gif

i also own a 55-200.at 200mm, the min focusing range is 1.1m wheres for the kitlens at 55mm you can get as close as 28cm. though, the perspective of the shot is diff already smile.gif

chewlf,
do you have sample pics comparing with and without the SB600?
me a newbie in dslr and just bought a d40...my next purchase plan is the SB600...

thanks...

QUOTE(chewlf @ Apr 17 2009, 09:26 AM)
ya, I do agree with xandman. You should make use of what you have currently and try to shot more photos, then only decide what's the next lens to buy. For myself, I stick to kit lens for a year before I purchase 55-200mm and 35mm. The immediate purchase after my D40 was SB600 to compliment the indoor low light shooting and it was a good investment. The differences are huge. biggrin.gif

keyyeonh,
I will upload some photos for you to review when have time. biggrin.gif
It won't be wrong if you go for SB600 first especially taking photo indoor. Even for outdoor portrait shooting, I also use to reduce the face shadow.
