wanna ask...is this lens out yet? it's a cheap 35mm prime but is it needed for wedding type pics?

AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G

it is out and I can tell you that any lens can be used for a wedding shoot. It really depends on the kind of pictures you want to produce.

What you need to do is, tag along with a friend for a wedding shoot, with your kit lens and 55-200mm. Get a feel of it and then decide what kind of lens you want.

The kind of lens you carry will also depend if you are the main photog, a back-up, you have a partner, you don't have a partner, the size of the venue etc

There is no single perfect lens that captures perfect wedding photos.

Just like your decision to buy the D60 instead of the Alpha. You HAVE to go out there and shoot and learn your own style, your own needs. There's no shortcut.

I can give the 35mm f1.8 to Zio and I bet you he can produce great results cause his style is shooting with primes.

So until you go out there and actually shoot something, you're gonna be bouncing around the walls trying to nitpick on 1,000,000 lenses... all of which would most probably produce the same results cause they would all be shot by the same photographer - YOU!

You can use your 55-200mm with Raynox DCR250 for a cheaper macro solution. tongue.gif

Yup. Just bought it last week and use it in LAN Party last weekend. Check out my flickr. Indoor photos were taken using this lens.

If you haven't used the 250 before, then I don't suggest jumping straight to 202. The 202 has very narrow DOF and focusing is one big challenge.

alpha_c...
u seem to be asking a lot of questions!

y dun u read the manual...
get the basics right first...
understand what u currently have...
THEN only ask questions...

i m not saying u cant afford to buy all those lenses that we have recommended...
but by asking without even knowing what u r asking...
is kinda waste...
bcoz when ull start to understand more...
u'll repeat the same questions again...

ya, I do agree with xandman. You should make use of what you have currently and try to shot more photos, then only decide what's the next lens to buy. For myself, I stick to kit lens for a year before I purchase 55-200mm and 35mm. The immediate purchase after my D40 was SB600 to compliment the indoor low light shooting and it was a good investment. The differences are huge. biggrin.gif
