hi, just a dumb question. For condo, where to install the outdoor water filter (i am refering to your 3M outdoor+indoor package) and do i need special piping for it ? and same for the indoor water filter do i need special piping for it or i can just install the indoor water filter anytime after renovation is completed? How abt the maintenance, how long to change the outdoor and indoor filter and whether we need technicians to come and provide the service, many thanks and sorry if you've answered these questions previously, coz i hd no time to flip page by page  notworthy.gif

For condo, the outdoor unit need to get permission from the management and they will provide the drawing where you can install it. As for indoor unit, yes you can install anytime which normally will be included in the package.

You can install the water filter near your water meter if it is near your condo unit as per the photo below.

However, some condo have a meter room and you cant install it there. Therefore, you will need to find somewhere suitable inside your condo and you might need to hack the wall a little. The outdoor filter is very small and does not require backwash, very suitable for CONDO. It could provide 370,000 litres of clean water for your whole unit.

THe filter will be installed near your water meter. Hence, it will filter the water for your whole house.

3M AP902 does not require backwash but you need to replace the cartridge after 370,000litres or when u feel there is a drop in water pressure or roughly 1 year. It is very ez to replace the cartridge, wont take you more than 30 sec. I will upload a video of it 2molo.

Hi guys, i'm staying in a double-storey terrace now looking for a POE outdoor water filter, any recommendation? Sand? Membrane?

Saw few brands such as EZ Membrane, HydroOne, PureGen, PerfectSteel, 3M, GenAir, WaterCo... =.=''' which one is good? What is the reasonable price for a outdoor water filter + installation?

i heard membrane filter for outdoor is not suitable? True?

Thanks

Actually all filters are good as they can make your water cleaner smile.gif However, you will need to choose what you need and suitable for your.

Here is a brief info based on my online research and asking a few plumbers.
1) Sand filter - Big & bulky but durable and low maintenance cost. However, there is a possibility that dirt or sand might go into your house.

2) Membrane filter - Smaller than sand but not as durable as sand. If u check the specifications, the filter could only take 3-4 bar of pressure while sand ard 7-8bar. Membrane filters have very good filtration of 0.01 micron but due to the small pore size, it will reduce your water pressure. Incoming pressure cant b more than 3-4 bar, after passing through your filter, it will b less than that.

3) 3M AP902 - Not sand or membrane. Using non-woven pleated media. The size is very compact (smaller than membrane). Better filtration compared to sand but not as good as membrane. Could withstand upto 8 bar of pressure and would not significantly reduce your incoming water pressure. However, maintenance cost is more exp than sand but close to membrane.

If you would like to know more, you can drop by my showroom and i will explain and may b recommend something which is suitable for you.

thanks zheilwane.

i already have diamond indoor water filter for drinking and cooking for 2yrs, now want to get outdoor unit for the entire house.

i recently read about membrane water filter not suitable for drinking? eventhough outdoor? membrane actually more suitable to filter sea water? because membrane filter will remove all the rich and good minerals in the water?

no way to prevent the dirt and sand from the sand filters to intrude the house? worry in long term will cause block and congestion in the internal piping... headache then...

3M has outdoor filter (AP902).

The regular outdoor membrans are called UF and they do not remove good minerals. I guessyou are refering RO-reverse osmosis (RO is another type of membrane)

Someone told me, if you wanna check whether your filter is doing a good job, try removing your tap's aerator and look at the inside.

how to tell which type of membrane is UF and which is RO?

The 3M filter looks more suitable for condo owners? i'm considering either sand or membrane, with stainless steel body and head...

Sand - Pros:
- seems more natural filteration
- economical maintenance (replacing sand every 5 yrs? how much is that?)

Sand - Cons:
- bulky, heavy... may cause the porch to sink a little...?
- manual backwash instead of auto backwash?
- dirt and sand may intrude into house

Membrane - Pros:
- very clean and clear water, 0.01micron
- slim housing, does not take up too much space
- auto backwash available for much convenient needed

Membrane - Cons:
- healthy minerals removed, soft water?
- higher cost of replacing membrane (every 3-5yrs?)

not sure if i miss out any pros and cons for each type, sand vs membrane... anyone care to elaborate further?

hope i can make a suitable choice on the POE outdoor filter.. smile.gif

Outdoor membrane water filters are usually UF (ultrafiltration) membrane and they wont remove good minerals.

The cons.
- Can only back flush (not backwash). Therefore, you will need chemical cleaning
- The membrane must be replaced ard 3 years.
- Significantly reduce your incoming water pressure
- If auto flushing gadget runs out of battery or spoil, it wont backflush and the membrane will break.

I bliv you do not have tiles at the filter area. It would b better if u get your own contractor to drill the holes and patch it up before painting it back.

If my plumber were to install, he will drill the holes. Sometimes it will b a perfect circle and dont need to patch the hole. However, sometimes it is too difficult to drill and it might crack the sides, then he will patch it back with cement. You will need to paint it back later

Many forumers PM me asking about when do we replace the cartridge for 3M.

AP902 (outdoor) - Can filter upto 370,000 litres of water (averagely 1-1.5 year depending on usage and water quality)

APDWS1000 (indoor) - Recommended to change every year.

Using year is not accurate. The easy way is ask them accumulate the water bill for 1yrs, total up the usage m3. Once over 370m3, change the filter.

For 3M AP902, you will need to change the cartridge when there is a drop in water pressure.. When incoming water pressure drops, it means that the filter is getting clogged and it is time to change. The pore size of the media is 5 microns, anything bigger than that cant pass through, that is why it will get clogged overtime. When it is clogged, it shows that the filter is doing a good job in preventing dirt/sediments getting into your house.
