QUOTE(ozak @ Jun 29 2012, 04:28 PM) I guess is the first model. Cost rm3k+ back 13yrs ago. Consider very expensive back. Now don't need all this expensive filter just to drink a glass of water. I would like to know which filter water that has fulfilled the following standards at cheaper price than Amway. 1. Fulfill NSF Standard 52. Removal of dissolved chemicals etc. 2. Kill bacteria and virus so no need boiling. Something similar to NSF Standard 53. I have tried looking for alternative but couldn't find one.

Actually I didn't drink tap water for longtime. I drink mineral water direct from those 19l tank type. For my home, just a basic filter after meter and charcoal filter below sink. And boil the water if want to drink tap water.

Charcoal filter. Can remove dissolved chemical but these need changing. I only trust those that had been certified by NSF. And I think those certified ones all expensive like Amway. Boiling. I hated this. Only easily found viable option is Amway. I have looked high and low to replace the Amway but no luck. They are still the best and most importantly, easily available. Philips has an almost equally good ones at half price but nowhere to be found.

I don't go that crazy clean just for a drinking water. It will weaken my immune system. Even now just drink mineral water, it already give me problem when going to 3rd world country for a holiday or work. Not to mention my favorite jungle outdoor activity.

Only Distilled and R.O. system will remove the minerals in the water and best be avoided. Amway and others don't.

For that longtime I drink, I can different the mineral water and RO water taste. Sometime they do deliver the wrong 1. Once I taste different, scold them kau kau.

QUOTE(ozak @ Jun 29 2012, 06:05 PM) That is 53 sen per liter. Super expensive. Amway's filter is rated for about 5000 liters at about RM650 thereabout. That translate to only 13 sen per liter. May be just go trade in your old Amway for the new ones. Cheaper, certified cleaner water, less hassle on delivery. My 2 sen.

YOu are referring to indoor or outdoor? Added on July 1, 2012, 10:55 pmQUOTE(Spritzz @ Jun 26 2012, 08:29 AM) why calculate so much on this? Just take alphamax with backwash will do... low maintenance compare to 3M. Cost wise cheaper as well. 3M has better filtration compared to sand filters like alphamax. Backwash could only remove large sediments and not cleaning the media inside 100%. This post has been edited by zheilwane: Jul 5 2012, 08:17 AM

QUOTE(zheilwane @ Jul 5 2012, 08:18 AM) 3M DWS 1000 deluxe drinking filter has been tested and verified by NSF. 3M is a well known brand and a big company, this filter is made in USA. Here is how good the filter is This is their outdoor filter AP902, more compact and durable than membrane filters How to know if the 3M filter is more durable than membrane filters? Normal membrane cartridge can last for 4 years in average but subject to backwash (normally automatic timer). In term of outdoor basically nothing much just to keep away the dirt. There is not much different in term of outdoor unit except for the maintenance cost. For me the most important will be Indoor filter where I will go for NSF filter

IMO, the later is more important than durability.

True, but all the membrane/sands in the market are about the same. Durability = Maintenance for long run. Now most of us just looking for compact size for Outdoor unit to save some space. But bear in mind, same media with smaller size, will it be more effective? I doubt it. As long as the water come in is clean then it is good enough. As for drinking water no matter how get a NSF filter or boil it

Why 3M filter is more durable? Membrane u will need to backwash daily. Most membrane filters come with a timer to auto backwash. Users seldom check on the filter, what if the timer is faulty and didnt auto backwash, the membrane inside will burst and all the dirt will gush into your water tank. 3M on the other hand, you do not need to bachwash for averagely one year.

As for drinking water no matter how get a NSF filter or boil it Membrane filters, need chemical wash once or twice before change membrane. My mom house using membrane is much better than sand. Running cost of course is higher than sand. 3m vs membrane maybe cost is slightly higher on 3m, but if our utility bill is as high a Singapore it will be the other way round. Performance both on layman eyes I see similar clean incoming. Of course if need technical need to send it to test lab. This post has been edited by weikee: Jul 5 2012, 12:15 PM
