i was never really star trek fan... they started off very early in the 50s or 60s... and the settings was soooooo lame IMO. the only star trek i watched is star trek voyager... voyager looked cute.. not like conventional star trek ships with out-stretched engines.
star trek 09 is good... very nice. but still got some lame stuffs.
they should have made the small shuttle ships better(not boxed shape like cardboard), and the bridge chairs are like office chairs... then.. they were talking bout shields... i never see any shields on the ships. everytime it always kena hit by missiles... and damaged.
y like that?... what are the shields for actually? and y no AI computer (artificial intelligence) present in star trek? any star trek fans here... ans pls...

1. the shuttle designs follow the original star trek designs. no point changing those coz it'll go out of place. same goes with the bridge design. look up the term "retro-futuristic".
2. shields in star trek have always been invisible. u dont see it until it is hit by an offensive weapon like phasers, disruptors etc. during the early days, shields are a bit primitive. facing an advanced borg-infused battleship from the future such as the narada (nero's ship), they stand no chance. a cluster of those missiles was enough to disrupt the entire shield array, damaging the ship directly.
3. one of the in jokes amongst trekkies about the absence of AI is 2001:space odyssey. or at least google hal9000, the AI that went haywire and killed almost its entire crew.
on the other hand, the ship always had a basic system AI, but not enough to control the entire ship. star trek universe relies on human (or alien) capabilities to control the ship. the reason for this is computers are good at doing repetitive jobs, but would be almost useless in critical situations that involves unique parameters. humans on the other hand are good at handling critical situations, but would bore out and dive into complacency in a repetitive situation. this is the exact same reason why airline jets today still have pilots. did u know that we do have enough technology today to fly and land jets totally without the presence of pilots?
