a very fun movie to watch. not your typical star trek movie. this star trek movie = beautiful people in uniform. Since when we ever get female officers in miniskirt in Star Trek - all of them wore long pants. Well not this one and oh there is a sex scene too tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

They mentioned Slusho in the bar scene, and the monster in the Delta Vega system looks exactly like the Cloverfield monster.

Wadafak?

Anyways, i really like the movie.
I just find the "glittery lens flare" effect in the enterprise abit distracting and nauseating.

I've put up mini-reviews of the old Trek movies in my blog. If you're interested in exploring the history of Star Trek, hope my reviews can help. smile.gif

Part 1, first 5 movies are up. Part 2 will be up by tomorrow.

Well it has been done before in Star Trek 2: THe Wrath of Khan

Added on May 14, 2009, 8:27 pmThings I like:

-this movie has definitely brought back the Star Trek franchise from obscurity. this will spur a new generation of fans
-the actors and production crew really did their homework. kudos to that.
-non fans will like it because its a nice , cozy intro
-very gung ho, way more exaggerated than the original version actually

Now as a Trekkie, things I don't like (warning geeeky comments)
-villain was obviously useless, not even worth mentioning
-Leonard Nimoy (old spock) 's lines suck big time, he sounded more like a senile human old man than vulcan
-2 hours too short
-no time to see character development and chemistry between the actors. One thing that made Will Shatner and gang popular was the chemistry between kirk, spock, and bones. hopefully in future instalments we'll see a different yet cool take on it
-lack of positive theme (i.e. peace, human unity, anti-racism) but this would have bore most people anyway, instead we get young kirk and jing gang story

yea i thought that was the best characterization (is that the right word?) of the original cast. Spock comes second.

He mimicked Bones well, I would have prefered to see a different take on the character though. And I think Sylar and Spock is an awesome combination, no complaints about Quinto here.

i sighed a little when it ended. i like it BUT, huge but...

it felt like a michael bay movie to be honest. so action packed, so flashy with the crazy lens flare use and FX, so...mainstream. which isnt necessarily bad, just didnt feel like star trek. no prime directive(yes there was no prime directive at that time) but its like it has no direction! If this were a parallel universe... there might be a possibility that the prime directive might not even come to existent in this timeline yawn.gif god that would suck so much.

it might be the end of the star trek we knew and love. bye bye sleek metal voyager, hello apple store voyager.

Chekov was so cute tho.

Other grips that may contain spoilers VVVVVV

You're a true Trekkie. I know how you feel but if it's giving Star Trek a reboot then its defnitely worth it. But remember TOS was never science-techno-centric. It was the TNG series and beyond that gave birth to that

I like how they make this movie that actually targeted to every general audience as well.

I am not a star Trek fans..In fact, I know nothing about Star Trek except their famous StarFleet look like.

I really enjoyed this movie a lot. The effect and the action quite well-done in my opinion and there are few dialog were quite funny. The soundtrack were quite amazing.

2 Hour length is alright..Not too long and not too short.

Definitely recommended for everyone and you can watch with your family as well.

At the end of the movie, Spock Prime said that he is off to help the Vulcans in rebuilding their home in another planet he claimed to have found... So I guess he has been "written off" from the sequels until they feel that they should bring him back again...

so basically he is stuck there ? wah

Anyone didn't come out of the movie not wanting to be on a spaceship?
I think JJ Ab just came out with the right mix of drama, adventure and sci-fi compared to the previous few StarTrek movies. Beats StarWars 1 - 2 - 3 hands down.

Was anyone impressed how much Kurk was beaten up and yet survived? Well I would imagine more futuristic weapons instead of fist and knuckle fights.

Beam ME up Scotty smile.gif

9.0 out of 10.0 from me

Was never a Star Trek fan. Always changed channels everytime it was on TV (don't shoot me).

But after watching the movie with no expectations and all, I'd say I'm a fan now. wink.gif

Visuals and imagery aside, characters and storyline are all well developed. Love the chemistry between the crew - Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Sulu, Bones, Scott. All a very nice blend.

Space... the Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilizations; to boldly go where no man has gone before.

Just before the ending credits, who said that..? Picard or Nimoy ..?
