Theres only about 4 characters I can remember from star trek.

Spock
Kirk
Scott (thanks to the famous "Beam me up Scotty")
Picard.

What happened to Picard? He used to be the Captain of the  USS Enterprise before Kirk right? O_O
*
Spock, Kirk and Scotty is the from original series

Picard is the Captain of the USS Enterprise D from the Next Generation Series. So no, Picard is not the captain before Kirk.

i have watched this movie and i can say that...its very newbie friendly...there are no continuation from the previous movie and the now conveniently retconned past(or more precisely future lol) events with the events that happened in this movie

The action are fast paced as you would expect of movies this age. some might argue that the captain nero of nadara could do more good by warning the romulans when he went back in time but you must remember that his sense in clouded when he saw the destruction of his home planet and the death of his wife....and also he is just a miner, not some charismatic admiral of a military organization, maybe he is not as smart as he looks:lol:.

i guess in the future movies we can see more of the adventures of young kirk and his crew. the future of the federations are also going to be different now that vulcan is gone.

i have watched most of the movies and a few of the series and its quite sad to see all of them retconned like that.

well at least now we might see new fans that like this fast paced action sequence-type movies. but i guess these new fans might not like the more science-technobable of the series.

i would give it a 9/10 for the newbie friendliness. definitely a movie that anyone can watch and enjoy

The tv series timeline is:
1) Star Trek: Enterprise - Captain Jonathan Archer
2) Star Trek - Captain James Tiberius Kirk
3) Star Trek: The Next Generation - Captain Jean-Luc Picard
4) Star Trek: Voyager - Captain Kathryn Janeway

The Star Trek movie - Generations is where Captain Kirk and Captain Picard met.
I guess it is like a hand-over or passing the baton between Captain Kirk and Captain Picard
where Star Trek movies end and Star Trek:TNG begins ...

I agreed with you 101%. This movie is for Star Trek fans and newbies.
As what the movie poster says "Star Trek - The Future Begins" ...

hulk is different in sense that it's the same story.
this one, is set in the same past, only with new future.

it's called alternate timeline my friend.
it's quite common in science fiction.
and trust me, in this star trek movie, it's really believable about this new timeline.
if a trekkie like me can appreciate the movie so much, i don't think how you shouldn't.
unless.. you are one of those elitist.

yeah. i hate elitist. they refuse to evolve according to time.

WTF is Nero's ship looking like a tentacled octopus when its a frakking mining vessel.

WTF is with the Romulan's tattoo, didnt even care to explain. Probably just there so they look badass, just like their ship. Hell they dont even look like Romulans.

GODDAMNIT, this just pisses me off so much.
*
Your confusion is explained in the 4-issue movie prequel comics, Star Trek: Countdown...

The reason why the Narada (Nero's ship) had "tentacles" is becoz of the integration of Borg technology...

You can read a summary of the prequel story here:

Star Trek: Countdown

i beg to differ. i love the score.
it has homages to the original "Star Trek : The Motion Picture" and the Original Series.
small nuances of emotive composition here and there.
very nice if you ask me.
*
I like the Michael Giacchino score too, although it's not the best Trek score... I especially like the way Michael used the Chinese Er-hu to portray the Vulcans... It sounds really nice...

Wait till the Blu-Ray version for another excitement as JJ has left out many story part for the sake of quick pace. It will be extended to almost 3 hours with more plots explained.
