Wiring fault is a general terms. You need to look at the nature of the fault to derive them in details and most of the cases are unique to the car and not to others. They might have a combination of what you mentioned.

What assurance do you want...? even VW DSG gearbox will have firmware problem that yet to be solve, dude. doh.gif

According to one of the technical person in Proton on the Proton Open day, he mentioned that the occurrences of AMT failure is not high enough to trigger alarm. They even confidently said that the savvy's electronic fault is less compared to Renault itself..... sweat.gif

Talking about recall, they also mentioned that most of the recall is due to a design flaw and they might put the driver to great danger while AMT & other similar common problem does not pose a immanent danger when the fault occurred.

Auto light on is not dreaded to most of us as the auto warning light is just a warning and the car mostly still can be driven without any problem like how most of the ppl treat the engine check light(of course...I treat them seriously...My last gearbox light on is due to a weird reason..."TDC sensor voltage too high" for a few second... sweat.gif ).  An alarming situation should be engine STOP light, engine warning light, electrical fault & AMT light lit altogether.... then you can feel the fear (and I never heard of it yet, but it's documented in the manual that in this situation, engine won't rev beyond 2000RPM). doh.gif

Hi Navigator,

If most of the cases of AMT failure are unique, then you cannot classify them generically as "wiring fault". It is very misleading because you actually cannot define the problem.

The assurance I want from Proton is that if indeed it is a wiring fault and they changed the wiring harness, I definitely want the assurance the same problem do not arise again.
If the problem do arise again after changing the wiring, their "solution" is by trial-and-error and they will start looking for another "scapegoat".

Please don't confuse a wiring fault, which is not a design problem, with the ever evolving firmware upgrades for transmission management. They are not the same, and to
demand an assurance from the automaker for proper working of a firmware is moot, since it is always upgradeable. For example, I have stopped asking Euromobil for TCU
firmware upgrades of the Tiptronic gearbox of my Audi A4 Turbo bacause it is already working fine for me. Why should I upgrade for the sake of upgrading and risk something
going out of my expectations? I am 2 versions behind now, but I am OK with it.

We are just not on the same plane of perception as far as the AUTO on light is concerned. Most, I won't say all, of savoc.net forummers who experienced AMT failure had
early warning in the manifestation of this AUTO light being on, sometimes momentarily and sometimes on permanently.

tt then must have teh wor.

on wiring issue, i believe there are some truth to it. maybe too much moisture causes short to earth. maybe next project is to moisture proof it by shrink wrap+ silicon glue.
