I'm a newbie in gundam modelling. I'm thinking of painting the gundam I have bought. May I ask where can I buy paint and all the necessary accessories around subang or klang valley?

Anyone willing to teach me how to use Tamiya's Compounds ? Ive heard that u use them to achieve a very glossy finish on model kits. ( like car models ) .... but i never knew how to use them.

And they have so many types of compounds... which one is the right one for polishing ? Thanks in advance. biggrin.gif

tamiya compound got 3 types
coarse
fine
finishing
all is meant for polishing
u can't skip either one.

basically after u painted ur car kit, still need to wetsand 1500-2000 to remove rough areas
then start wt coarse (this works like 3000 grid sand paper or higher)
this process is very important to "even out" those orange-peel effect. ur paint job may be glossy but not necessary smooth (e.g. if u see ur reflection in the paint but the reflection like not so nice, like got distortion)
ur surface must be smooth at this point, not glossy/reflective is okay

then go with fine polish
by this stage ur not-so reflective surface will turn reflective

then finish off with "finishing polish"
this will remove those extra fine fine scratches and make ur car real shine

if u want even shinier, get it wax.

Hi there another question here ....

Yesterday I went to the shop ask him about the thinner that can rub off the Tamiya Spray ..... he only show me the two thinner ..... (Acylic and Enamel) =_= damn

There is really no idea to use which kind of thinner rub off or should I end with using brake oil?

Q2:

When I when to the shop I saw the kind of sand paper which named err..... what finisher (forgot the full name) and it has write 800番 and 1000番 which comes with different price o.o ..... may I know whats use for that ? It just like the normal sand paper or for what?

walau er... u nvr read our post one izzit?
we said see ur tamiya spray can is wat type of paint, acrylic or lacquer.... then only u buy the type of thinner for it so u can rub it off doh.gif

the 800, 1000 is grit means level of roughness and smoothness of the sand paper.... it's for u to sand ur kits from roughness to smoothness....

do u read ppl's feedback???
tamiya spray is mostly lacquer (read the label i might be wrong)
if it is LACQUER, dun waste ur time. i've tried the hobby thinner and it didn't remove effectively.
i ended up rubbing the whole thing over and over and some parts broke.
lacquer paint is harder to be stripped compare acrylics. if u used enamel, can forget about it.

i said brake oil is ur last attempt bcoz after stripping, the plastic wil sort of become brittle, susceptible to break if handled roughly.
well, u can try one thing that can strip all ur paint, which is paint stripper or thinner fr hardware but is useless coz it will melt ur plastic.
so, that's why i said, so troublesome better start with new kit, if u die die wanna strip, then go ahead use brake oil.
if i have a solution for u i woundn't advocate u to strip ur kit with brake oil. coz that's the only option that i know.. that at least will work.

sandpaper got diff roughness, the number higher means finer, smaller means coarse. feel with hand u'll know.
sandpaper is FOR SANDING OF COARSE.
what u think the sandpaper can be used for gunpla????
