I would like to ask what is the ratio of levelling thinner and the mr. surfacer? Hehe. I'm a newbie here trying to paint my SD 00 Gundam.

Added on February 15, 2009, 6:21 pmI just paint the primer on my gundam. But the airbrush came out to spray out water drop. What can I do to fix it because the water drop make the paint not even.
*
either u add too much thinner resulting too watery or really smthing wrong wiv ur ab gun...

QUOTE(golbeza @ Feb 15 2009, 10:38 PM)
ok so i sprayed primer on my gundam. is it advisable to use gundam markers or spray another colour? need pro advise here  sweat.gif
*
after priming, u dun use gundam markers, it'll be a waste..... use spray cans or AB for better painting surface

QUOTE(Jenkins @ Feb 16 2009, 02:01 AM)
1 question:

We used lacquer for paint, and enamel for panel lining. Why not the opposite?
*
yes u can do tat but depends on y u wan to do tat....
usually ppl use lacquer/acrylic as base it's because these 2 can't mix together as it'll giv a chemical reaction... while enamel does not tat is y enamel is suitable to do lining on both of these paint's surface....

steadyhia..
yes.. like wat z3r0717 has said.. either ur thinning is too watery or ur pressure too high.
either thin less or lower down ur pressure or spray from farther distance.
after testing a few times u should know better..
for the water/paint spitting, always have the habit of pressing trigger at blank point then only aim at ur plastic. usually the 1st press is where paint spits.

jenkins.. this kinda question no need to ask..
try it and u'll get an answer immediately... sweat.gif

which alternative u r looking for?
213 is stainless
218 is aluminum

1) are u refering alternative as in other material?
use real steel or aluminum la tongue.gif j/k

2) brand?
try tamiya or alclad II or gaianotes (dun ask me the website, i forgot)

3) alternatives color?
there's so many other color even in Gunze's Mr.metallic series, others that look convincingly like metals are chrome silver, dark iron

u can actually browse for paint that offers natural metal finishes, black magic powder.. etc..

do u haf a moisture trap in place? if the airbrush is spitting out water, then problem may be the moisture trap. but if it's coming out too watery, then a couple of reasons. 1 is you mixed the primer with too much thinner. 2, u're spraying high pressure and very close to the plastic.

1 answer: different chemical compound between lacquer and enamel.

lacquer will "bite" into any paint. but enamel dun mix well wif lacquer. hence when you use enamel for panel lining on lacquer base, you can wipe out the excess without problem. when u use lacquer on enamel...the paint will meld into the enamel base. but enamel can be used for priming. as it tends to adhere to plastic better. like the "animal chess"...mouse get eaten by cat, cat by dog...lion by elephant, elephant by rat kinda theory.

simple question with tough answers to follow..

material u can use for parts lengthening:
1) pla-plate (plastic card)
2) bondite (epoxy putty)
3) polyester putty (mori mori, tamiya)

can browse here for the product info..

one question... actually 2...

been working on my first MG and almost done with the inner frame, but is it normal to use up almost one whole bottle of mr color paint? that would also mean that i would need to get more paints to finish up the outer armor?
how much paint bottles per mg anyways? I'm normally an SD person so i would like to know sweat.gif

depends.. some guy i know.. (ahem ahemm.. he's reading).. didn't paint hidden parts.. so it's more paint conserving..

a fren of mine told me if u use ur paint wisely.. a bottle of mr.color will last him for 3 armor tanks.

for mg.. depend area coverage of that color.
it's rili tough to judge from the info u mention..

ok.. i'll give some examples:
a bottle of primer (40ml) should last for average mg (say rx-78) for up to 3-4 kits

how u paint oso counts:
eg.
1) u painted underneath of armor?
2) internal frame u painted piece by piece or paint sub-assembled parts
3) how many layers/thickness?
4) did u wasted many paint during AB preparation/ unused paint/ washing brush/handpiece/paint tray.. etc

ic ic... well i do not paint the underneath (people actually do this shocking.gif) and i do paint piece by piece whenever possible. I suppose i am a bit wasteful as i do many many thin layers as i prefer the finish... thin and very slightly grainy.
ie. i have been coating the same 20 or so pieces since noon laugh.gif

1. no1 knows because it's custom color by keita himself... unless he mentioned it in his blog which is in Japanese
2. for green shining like painting, he might have used green metalic or green fluorescence and that is also his custom color
3. pla plates can be bought in Berjaya times square, few shops sell them, the pic is of cos easy to see but not easy to flw..
4. putty does not extend parts, they only cover holes or gaps, etc.... for extended parts there are many ways like using pla plate, etc....
5. for tat AB i duno, tamiya shud be a beginner's set shud suit u well..
6. definitely no unless u wanna see ur kits melt... Hobby thinner has a reason for it... since u can afford a compressor then y dun u buy hobby thinner... i bought a 400ml bottle of hobby thinner and have alr used to spray 2-3 kits only used quarter of the thinner. when u was ur AB gun , use industrial thinner la... doh.gif
7. keita does not show how he mods everything because it's his secret... He shows his work of progress without much explanation...
8. lots of ways, cheapest way is using needles and using duck tape as guidance...

NOTE: If u're totally new to gunpla, i suggest u start with OOB.. no point goin into mods and etc, u'll be wasting ur time... modding nids experience, if u havnt master ur OOB skills, wat's the point of modding... If u're really interested in gunpla then i'll let u know, this is a very exp hobby. If u're into modding, there's no stopping.. IF it's just OOB then u just nid to buy paints and a few stuff only....
alwiz start from the beginning and slowly to the top...
sumore u wan to follow keita's work? not everyone can do that, he's a pro... too pro i would say...

@yiha
i try to help u answer ur question.(hopefully i'm not wrong)

1. OOB=Out of box
(simple painting, lining)(which no included mod)

2/3.Tamiya paint mostly is enamel or acyclic(water base)
for enamel can be thin with tamiya thinner. and acyclic is water(as i know tamiya thinner also can)

4. depend, some people just "agak agak" some said thinner:color/1:2( i'm the one agak agak sweat.gif / need someone more pro to answer ur question)

if u wan to use water base acyclic. as i know need to apply alot layer due to the color is very light. need to apply alot layer.
