I'm not sure whether its 7200rpm or not but my C: space is 113GB and D: 106.
The technician said others hv been used for win, drivers etc.
from properties the model is WDC WD2500BEVS-75UST0
*
As far as I know, the 7200rpm hard disk only have 200GB so yours should be a 5400rpm one and the WD there should be Western Digital I assume. hmm.gif

To know the actual size of your HDD (and also the hidden partitions), right-click Computer > Manage > Disk Management.

Since Vista SP1 slipstreamed DVD is now available, can we actually request Dell to send one over?

I also suggest most accurate way of check the size, reboot press f2 go to BIOS to see, simple and easy.

I guess this is not allowed by Microsoft. 1 licence only can have 1 media copy.
therefore Dell will not also send you second DVD.

just want to share mine;

xps m1330, bought by march,2008.

till now, i have collected 4 pink-colored form (repair order form) laugh.gif .

1.faulty dvd drive (1st used) ohmy.gif
2.replace hdd and mobo due to abnormal noise (after few weeks)...
3.not satisfied..still got noise, ask them to replace another mobo...-this time they told me if the noise still there, then need to consider normal sweat.gif
4.replace mobo again coz battery cannot detect (after 2 days of the last replacement) doh.gif

biggrin.gif

so far ok now.
after all, i love my xps. and i love dell service too. they respond me really quick and send technician after one day of my report. never disappoint me.

anybody here use the Dell media direct software? esp to those who reformat the hdd.

i read the manual that the dell media direct need to be setup first on the hdd before installing windows..is it right?

rite now im not install the software. and i dont think it is usefull coz already got windows media center..which is im not using also. juz cannot use the media direct button (left side of the power button).

DUmb question... what in the world is the Dell MediaDirect and why do I need it?

I already installed my Windows and stuff... so if this needs to come before that I'll give Media Direct a pass unless it's absolutely critical for my notebook's performance.

About your abnormal noise problem, is it something like the audio popping at random times making the static sound?
And is it ok right now?

I just had a dell technician coming over to check, replaced motherboard, speakers, wireless card and hard drive, all to no avail, there's still the random crackling sound when i play music while doing other things. Now waiting for the next round to replace the whole motherboard along with cpu's and others.

Let's just hope this will solve the problem, the guy told me he's had such case before and that person decided to live with it after having his xps replaced with the same problem.

If this is a known issue, it's quite stupid for dell to sell a faulty laptop. I guess because this is really minor most people don't even realize it, un/fortunately i've got sharp ears and i hear it.

Oh well, i'm not sure if i'll ask for a refund or live with it, if dell gives some freebies then i probably will, at least their service is not bad.

i think the abnormal sound is a known problem... i think it produces by the mobo. but, it only appear when hdd is present and windows is loading. in bios, no sound..if boot via CD/DVD also no sound. this is from what i have experimented before.

as i got replaced total 3 mobo, all of them got the sound. it is high frequency sound and give me headache if expose for long time.
without this issue, xps m1330 just a great lappy.

solution; use ear/headphone. cool.gif

this is what we know all the while, if anyones here really care and always hear closely, may refer below for workaround:

1. Download RM CPU Clock utility (freeware)

2. disable the "Enable Popup Mode" tickbox in the "Advanced CPU Settings" section.

Refer : http://www.futurehardware.in/557984.htm

Download: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System...k-Utility.shtml

so no need wonder whether to call dell or not, by replace motherboard many times won't solve or lower down the noise level.

just my 2cents.

I received mine today, I ordered last Sunday so it is about 6 days since the order will only be processed on a working day. Also, mine was probably fast because there is a Skynet branch nearby my house. There are 2 XPS laptops in my house and both were delivered the same time 9am which I assume is the first delivery of the day. biggrin.gif

Your WDC HDD is known as WD 2.5" 5400RPM Scorpio Blue 250 GB SATA HDD ( WD2500BEVS ). WD2500BEVS-75UST0 type is commonly used in Dell laptop models.

Your missing space in your 250GB HDD, apart from your files, has been used by Media Direct software, which is "possibly" stored in the Host Protected Area (HPA) hidden partition.

Detailed information about your HDD (Japanese Linux website)

Yes I bought it online, the specs is similar to the RM4199 package but I upgraded the processor to T9300 and the hard disk I took the 200GB 7200rpm one. So far no problems and no sound too. biggrin.gif

Now... go get a pair of 800Mhz 4GB kit ram from one of the cruxial ram bulk. tongue.gif

Or wait for another few months i think 8GB (4GB x 2) kit SODIMM ram will be in the market! brows.gif brows.gif

I'm running VirtualBox on Vista ultimate x64. Ubuntu's performance is good just that no support from VirtualBox for 64-bit guest OS yet doh.gif

System stability wise it's rock solid. I'm currently running x2 prime95. While the palm rest get a bit too warm but doesn't really go any warmer even with 100% CPU utilization for few hours. I notice the fan is louder though. laugh.gif

Maybe I should get SpeedFan running and make the fan run faster even in idling mode. That might reduce the temp on the palm rest abit I guess. hmm.gif

Just to make sure a couple of things before i order a new laptop:

1. How to service my laptop if any problem occurs? Is there any Dell service center in Melaka?

2. Does M1330 reflect heavily? I like the outlook of XPS more than Vostro 1310 but M1330 is only offering glossy display...

for your first question.. if you have any problems with dell products, you just need to call them.. they will come to your house ASAP smile.gif
