Well will most probably be ordering mine soon (within this week), any build quality issues I should be aware of when I receive the unit ? By the way, the specs in mind :

Intel Core2Duo T9300 (if not would be T8300)
3GB DDR2 RAM
200GB SATA 7200RPM
128MB NVidia GeForce 8400M GS

hi i just bought mine from TecAsia L4 LowYat with specs:
Intel Core2Duo T8100 2.10GHz
3GB DDR2 RAM
250GB SATA 7200RPM
128MB NVidia GeForce 8400M GS

wanna ask sifu here, how i want to check how many cell is my batt?
thx
*
If you did not upgrade the battery then it should be a standard 6-cell battery, I have checked the Dell USA site and a 6-cell battery is a must if there is a dedicated graphic card in it. You could get a 250GB 7200rpm hard disk ? From the Dell site which I ordered last night, the highest and only option is a 200GB 7200rpm.

I'm not sure whether its 7200rpm or not but my C: space is 113GB and D: 106.
The technician said others hv been used for win, drivers etc.
from properties the model is WDC WD2500BEVS-75UST0
*
As far as I know, the 7200rpm hard disk only have 200GB so yours should be a 5400rpm one and the WD there should be Western Digital I assume. hmm.gif

just ordered my xps1330 today.. the best thing is they are giving me a 9-cell battery for free since 6-cell battery is out of stock... biggrin.gif

when do you guyz think i will get my lappy? tongue.gif
*
I received mine today, I ordered last Sunday so it is about 6 days since the order will only be processed on a working day. Also, mine was probably fast because there is a Skynet branch nearby my house. There are 2 XPS laptops in my house and both were delivered the same time 9am which I assume is the first delivery of the day. biggrin.gif

*
Yes I bought it online, the specs is similar to the RM4199 package but I upgraded the processor to T9300 and the hard disk I took the 200GB 7200rpm one. So far no problems and no sound too. biggrin.gif

If I'm not wrong the screen's uneven illumination problem is quite common with the Dell XPS right ? For me, my right side is quite obviously brighter than the left side.

Well the only bad side about the 9 cell battery is the battery will be bigger right ? Although I would like to have the 9 cell battery but I already have a big made to exactly fit 13.3" widescreen laptops so I think if I were to have the 9 cell battery it won't go in either.

hmm, seriously none of you guys ever noticed any slight static or popping sound when you run programs with music playing?

anyway dell should be replacing my system in the next few days, according to the technician that tried to fix my laptop, he's got one case where after replacing, the new laptop gave the exact same problem, and the guy just decided to live with it.......

which is not something that i want to live with, and yet i don't feel like getting a refund...zzz

maybe i should try installing xp and see if there's any difference
*
I too have this problem but decided to live with it too since I could listen to music on my desktop. smile.gif

you serious? did you even call dell and ask about it?
zzz does that mean every single xps m1330 comes like this?

in that case, i shouldn't even bother get a replacement? either a refund or live with it
*
Nope because to me I don't really care much on the sound so occasional static sounds and "break offs" isn't really a big issue to me. Also, I think it actually happens to most of the XPS laptops be it the 1330 or 1530. You might contact them to enquire the possible solutions for this and also their recommendation on what to do with it.

Intel C2D T8100 2.10 Ghz
3GB RAM
GeForce Graphic Card 128MB
250GB HDD

Bought for RM 4.5k one week ago...not much serious problem to date.
Minor problems will be insensitive keyboard occasionally, and lid full of fingerprints.

Anyone has heat problem with XPS M1330?
*
It depends on how efficient the airflow it has especially the bottom part of the laptop where usually the heat from the hard disk and graphic card will be extracted out, so it does help to get a cooling pad.

hey hi...

does anyone of u who have the xps can feel the hdd spinning/vibration  thru the thin aluminium palm rest though?

i can feel mine sometimes the vibration is mild, sometimes its strong...
*
I have a 200GB 7200rpm hard disk in my M1330 and so far I have not felt any strong vibrations, it does have a slight vibration but the level of it is still tolerable.

Anyone flashed the BIOS to A11 already?

How's the improvement works?
*
Yes I have flashed the A11 BIOS already, performance wise nothing much, as stated in Dell's website it is suppose to enhance thermal control.

It's a well known problem for M1330 series only. wink.gif
*
Well in that case how many users here did have their M1330 serviced frequently ?

Results from Google shows a lot of them having the same problem and advised to flash to the latest A11 BIOS. I too have flashed to it so I hope I won't encounter it. Those who were on the A10 BIOS did a test and showed that the temperature was quite high and they were suspecting that the A10 BIOS had poor thermal management.

true but not totally true. in reality, m1330 itself has a poor thermal design that doesnt cool the gpu fast enough if used under intensive load. thus while the A10 bios makes the XPS M1330 a quieter machine due to the slower fan speed and timings, it makes it hotter. A11 just makes the fan speed faster and spins more, that in conclusion is trying to lower down the cpu and gpu temperature. but there you go having a noiser m1330. but by how much, i cant really tell.

True that, I am actually quite interested to know if those who had this issue were using it for some heavy usage perhaps needing the graphics processing power. If it usually happens to those who use it for heavy usage then I might consider myself to be alright with it since I only do works such as word documents and some illustrations and so on.

QUOTE(n20nine @ Jun 26 2008, 09:41 AM)
there are loads...and remember ur not counting in ppl who do not surf the forums..also if you include other forums...the number is big..

i had loads of issues, till i asked for a full refund..i know of people who have had up to 3 replacement units and i know lots who keep servicing theirs blindly - brand new units..and when you argue, they keep saying dell is good because they come and repair for you if anything goes wrong...they come because lots of their machines have probs, of course not all have probs, at this point, the number of problematic units has gone down substantially. but knowing dell, if its not today, then its tomorrow. speaking from experience of owning few Dells and having lotsa friends who own them too.

Is the refund applicable even if the warranty period is over ?

Recently my graphics card has some problems.. as it was soldered into the motherboard..Good thing it was under warranty at that time. it was replaced also FOC.
Now my warranty is coming to an end. I called up Dell to extend the waranty.. to my horror the warranty for one year is RM 1200!!..
It's very very expensive!
*
I would like to know how is your usage on the M1330 ? Do you usually stress the graphic card like playing some graphic intensive games or maybe 3D rendering and so on ?

i only using it for normal office applications ie excel and access.. occasionaly photoshop... rarely any movie.. ... maybe a couple during the last year..

I am not renewing the warranty cos it's too expensive... next time I would really go for the three year one.
*
In this case it is really bad for it to overheat. By the way, do you use any notebook coolers or at least something to tilt the notebook to allow better airflow at the bottom ?

By the way guys, have any of you tried to downclock the graphic card ? I tried with RivaTuner and it isn't able to change the clock for high performance 3D, it will keep going back to 400/600.

yongkailoon, it all depends on how you talk with them and coax them, i did it..got a full refund and mine was 3 months old...oh ya, this was my 2nd unit...1st unit also got a refund..tht was also 3 months old....was real headache....
*
Thank you for the advise, so if it ever happens on mine I will try and negotiate for a refund then unless the issue is solved which I doubt it will. My processor is idling at about 40 degrees while my graphic card is at about 55-57 degrees.

I did try to install a modded driver and the temperature when idle was 70 degrees. Using the default driver from automatic updates will let it idle at 55-57 degrees.
