oh.. i just checked mine. the mobo serial number is CN-0D057P-xxxxx-xxx-xxxx Rev A00. doh.gif

so far no prob other than the sound (i hate it so much!!).

however, i did an experiment to determine where sound is produce. i suspect the sound produced by the hdd. i knoe the normal rattle sound produce by the hdd when its read/write data but the whine sound got similar behavior.

i remove the internal hdd and then attach the usb hdd. then i run windows xp installation from cd. after copying files to usb hdd, computer restart somehow, BSD! nvr mind but the windows loading screen appear before that. i remove the cd then restart...

windows loading screen......BSD. but no whine sound at all from the moment i push the power button until the BSD!

then turn off computer, remove usb hdd, plug in internal hdd, turn on back, sound is there!

the serial number of the mobo can be found by removing the 1st top of the RAM (in my case).

reading replies in this topic make me unsure about my experiment result hmm.gif sweat.gif

btw, should i ask for mobo replacement to dell? can i get it even i dont have major prob? btw, its good to have the latest version.

just want to share mine;

xps m1330, bought by march,2008.

till now, i have collected 4 pink-colored form (repair order form) laugh.gif .

1.faulty dvd drive (1st used) ohmy.gif
2.replace hdd and mobo due to abnormal noise (after few weeks)...
3.not satisfied..still got noise, ask them to replace another mobo...-this time they told me if the noise still there, then need to consider normal sweat.gif
4.replace mobo again coz battery cannot detect (after 2 days of the last replacement) doh.gif

biggrin.gif

so far ok now.
after all, i love my xps. and i love dell service too. they respond me really quick and send technician after one day of my report. never disappoint me.

anybody here use the Dell media direct software? esp to those who reformat the hdd.

i read the manual that the dell media direct need to be setup first on the hdd before installing windows..is it right?

rite now im not install the software. and i dont think it is usefull coz already got windows media center..which is im not using also. juz cannot use the media direct button (left side of the power button).

i think the abnormal sound is a known problem... i think it produces by the mobo. but, it only appear when hdd is present and windows is loading. in bios, no sound..if boot via CD/DVD also no sound. this is from what i have experimented before.

as i got replaced total 3 mobo, all of them got the sound. it is high frequency sound and give me headache if expose for long time.
without this issue, xps m1330 just a great lappy.

solution; use ear/headphone. cool.gif

i just got my xps m1330 yesterday. with latest bios a11 and nvidia 167.45 driver. when idiling, it hovers around 48-56c depending on the room temperature. maximum with full speed fan it reaches 75-78c(i8kfangui to control when to kick in the fan). before i update the gpu driver, it idles at 65-68c[attachmentid=518410]
*
wa..urs cooler than me. mine is 76deg in normal operation.....what should i do? with this level of temp, i dont think it can last long...

I'm on Vista 32 bit. My Nvidia driver version is 156.69 which is also the one that came with it. I tried other drivers and have no luck, the temperature will be at 70C on idle, only this driver gives me about 56C on idle.
*
the latest driver at dell website is v175.97 and im using it right now. the one that came in the CD is v101.43.

i tried using the driver in the CD, left my laptop idle. the max GPU temp reach 104deg shocking.gif

will tell dell about this.

i think the average temp for the GPU is 70deg. is it ok to let it be like that? is it normal to have that level of temp on a GPU? i love to leave my computer switch on 24hrs. but now maybe should change my style. unsure.gif

or i might end up like those who replace mobo every 6 month... blink.gif

I'm using version 156.69 (from Windows Update) for my Vista x64. Average idle around 50-55C depending on the room temperature.

Yesterday tried monitor with HWMonitor in the background while I playing C&C, so far max hits around 85C only.

BIOS version A11 & Video BIOS version 60.86.45.00.40 (I doubt you can update the BIOS for 8400M GS, I just show for comparison)

where can i download this driver ?
