That seems like the symptoms of my lappie before it died. Time to call up and complain.
They'll probably give you a mobo replacement since the graphics is integrated.
Mine is D057F Rev00.
Btw, what whine sound do you mean cos so far other than the DVD and sometimes loud fan, I've experience no other sounds.

pmmonkey,
go back few pages and you can find a sample of whine sound posted.

oh.. i just checked mine. the mobo serial number is CN-0D057P-xxxxx-xxx-xxxx Rev A00. doh.gif

so far no prob other than the sound (i hate it so much!!).

however, i did an experiment to determine where sound is produce. i suspect the sound produced by the hdd. i knoe the normal rattle sound produce by the hdd when its read/write data but the whine sound got similar behavior.

i remove the internal hdd and then attach the usb hdd. then i run windows xp installation from cd. after copying files to usb hdd, computer restart somehow, BSD! nvr mind but the windows loading screen appear before that. i remove the cd then restart...

windows loading screen......BSD. but no whine sound at all from the moment i push the power button until the BSD!

then turn off computer, remove usb hdd, plug in internal hdd, turn on back, sound is there!

the serial number of the mobo can be found by removing the 1st top of the RAM (in my case).

After about 4 months of working perfectly fine, it seems my M1330 has finally kicked the bucket! Up till yesterday, it was working fine, then suddenly, when I turned it on, it went to the 'Start in Safe Mode' or 'Start Windows normally' screen, because it says the system failed to shutdown succesfully, even though I did shut it down normally the night before that. So I chose to start normally, I'd login to Windows, then vertical and horizontal lines would appear on the screen..and then my whole screen would be filled with all these crazy lines and I couldn't see a thing! My lappy would then shut down by itself, as if it crashed. This would happen evey time I tried turning on the lappy, even in safe mode.

I tried calling Dell, but their call centre is closed already for the day. I then went to their website to email them a support request, but it says their email system is down! WTF Dell????

Is my problem the dreaded mobo problem or is it something else?

i think the tick tick sound is from ur hdd. Is it a seagate brand? because normally seagate brand cause this sudden tick tick sound..

about the remote bring this issue up to dell and ask them why the remote is not working. they ll send u a new one by courier service or something..

Sunshine,

They won't entertain. I also got 1 dead pixel but they call it as industrial standard to have less than 5 dead pixel unless u have >5 dead pixel i.e 6 dead pixel or 2 joint dead pixel then they can replace it.

i email them and the above is their answer.
