SR80 for RM 335... compared to music by design RM 380...
it's ok if ur sr80 don't have problem. but if it is damaged? have to RMA? u might have to send back to taiwan. the price different for SR80 is not that big though. some more paying extra RM 45 u can use it for more than a month, save hassle of waitting. and u can even test at music by design kau kau.. before u decide to buy or not. price of RS2 big different or not with local i not so sure.. so no comment. |

Grado is very crudely built, dont think u will have any problems with them falling apart.
The only thing im worried about is part quality and unbalanced voice coil, one side sound better than the other. My SR60 is currently in bits, total overhaul and i noticed grados are very crudely put together and each are different Plastic mold for voice coil ( sharp left over fron the molding process ) and air chamber are different, even if they come from the same pair of headphone I read from many forums on the quality of RS2, different font on the chamber, different color tone. Unique they say. Even the hot glue they use are different, some are clear ( general duty ) and yellowish ( heavy duty ) Its very obvious, but the sound is good. Well its not sth Grado and other users have not notice No use complaining....like Grado is going to RMA ( Read My Article ) This post has been edited by metalmania: Apr 8 2008, 03:15 PM |

I use the Zero DAC/Amp to pair with my SR225.
I think it one of the best value DAC you can get at the price. There's a bulk on it currently, go look it up |

Even better there's someone selling a 2nd hand unit in the garage sale...
(Though its just barely a month since we got the Zero) so I think it can be considered as a new unit... Search the forum for Zero and you should be able to find it... |

My sr80 previously bought from Music by Design died on me in the left side just after burning in for half a day, went back to exchange for sr225 as there are no sr80 stock available. Luckily I did the burn in if not who knows when it would die on me. So please don't buy anything overseas if you don't want any hassle of returning it back. These are hidden cost.

With the extra RM400, I can even buy myself another unit of Grado SR80 (selling at RM340 in Taiwan) and with that I still can safe myself RM60, YAH!!! Even half of my PC components I bought it from Taiwan like the power supply, CPU, RAM, display card, all bought from Taiwan. So I already immune to the RMA things. The RM400 price difference make me cannot resists, like eating drugs, I just can't stop it. Think I just can say good luck to myself for the don't know how many times. and... "Good Luck".. |

I was at MBD yesterday afternoon. Auditioned a pair of SR-60s.
Definitely going to join the club. RM328 a good price for them? And I'm kind of considering... if an upgrade to SR-80 at an extra 50 ringgit would be good? Prolly I'll get a lowdown on whatever I don't know about audiophil-ing from the shopkeeper of MBD... I just stayed for an hour and didn't even exchanged names cause I was so stunned by the sound. XD |

i would suggest u go for sr-80 which is more dynamic in audio range. alternatively may contact walabies for a alessandro ms-1. Maybe you should go back and have another listen and compare the Grado SR60 and SR80.
I personally prefer the MS1 over the Grado SR80. For me, the SR80 is a rather fatiguing in the highs. Making long listening sessions unbearable. I have the SR225 |

My original budget is actually RM200. For Koss PortaPro. Then it jumped to 328, for Grado SR-60s, then now I'm considering 380 Grado SR-80s. I can't even imagine my reaction when listening to MS1, I might start crying and begging for the Walabies to let me do it in installments. XD

Hi guys. In case anyone's interested, I've got a 4.5 months old SR-325i up for sale. Less than 200 hours done on them and comes complete with Grado's very own 15-feet extension cable. The full package is RM700 and will let go of the cans alone at RM650. My email add is etteoh@gmail.com
My sincere apologies if I posted this in the wrong area/section. I'm new to the forum and this was the Grado section that I was redirected to. I will be glad to re-post this in another section if need be. Have a great day everyone! UPDATED: I managed to get some discounts on my new gears so I am passing the discounts down here, which explains the reduction in price This post has been edited by etteoh: May 12 2008, 01:37 PM |

Yes, I am aware of the price difference. Bearing in mind that I am plugging it to my HTPC and PSP, not using any HeadAmp for the moment. I am expecting my first PA2V2 from Gary toarrive this couple days. I will definatley for for a decent HeadAmp and dedicated source to maximize the investment of such sweet Grado RS-1. Well, I suppose Grado does attract its own audience, much like the Senns and so on. The good ones go pretty quickly...if the prices are right. Like the GS1K that I bought - I got it off the seller in under 10 mins after his thread was posted so
l0k0 was pretty fast too |

ALRIGHT!!! I received my Grado SR325i this Wednesday after my friend return all the way from Taiwan.
This is my second day listening to the SR325i, and LOVING it and totally ADDICTED to it. Even my girlfriend who do know nothing about music said she enjoy listening to music now. That's the MAGIC of Grado I must say. I hate myself for not buying a Grado earlier, I should have buy it when I was studying in the college ..... Will try to upload some photos when I got time. |

I echo carpathia. RM328 for and SR60 is a bit on the high side. Yuki Ijuin, why not you ask outdoorxplorer if his recabled MS1 is still up for sale...I bet that kills the stock SR60s and 80s easily.

Thank you for the recommendation btother teoh. I doubt that I will be letting go the MS1 below RM328 or below as you are fully aware of my next purchase. Anyway, local disty is out of stock and their Singapore counter part sharing the same situation too.

For sure I didn't think it will be below RM328 with the goodies that are on it but if I were on the lookout for a pair of cans in that range, surely your MS1 is the safest bet. At least it is for me. Even if it means paying more for it. They look really awesome though I have to say

That is one radical piece of equipment coming Sorry to hear there is shortage on stock. Did they give you an indication when they will be able to ship yours? |

No problem bro. Good stuff must and will always be recommended
Yes, let's meet up when your gears arrive. We can exchange some thoughts too and I cannot wait to let my fingers slither around your new baby The Darkvoice 332 and my GS1000 definitely has synergy. Even right out of the box, the 332 exhibits drive and energy that is to die for. At least my ears tell me. It can only get better once they are fully run in and when the tube rolling fun starts |

I messaged Arremie about his MS1 as well.
Shall PM outdoorexplorer about his price. Since it's recabled I don't think it'll go any lower than RM400? But... errr... yea, I'm thinking of opting for the MS1 cause SR-60s out of stock in MBD. And getting a RM480 pair of headphones @ 400 is definitely more alluring than getting new SR-60s at RM328. XD @ MBD SR-80s are RM 428... 325i are at 1.1k plus. >_< This post has been edited by Yuki Ijuin: May 29 2008, 12:16 AM |

I know his recabled cans are definitely worth it so I have to echo your sentiments on it being better (both in value and performance) over a new SR60. Oh the gear's actually sitting in the hall. It has this little beddie thingy from Ikea beside it so I make use of that
The DV332 was purchased from Davis. I'd hate to bring one in from China myself. The shipping charges and customs declaration is just too much a hassle for me. I have been toying around with different combo and this setup works best for me. The CDP really bangs for its price and importantly it suits my listening tastes - and wallet |

Contrary to the popular belief that the DV332 suits Senns HD650 best (and Grados simply die on them), I am inclined to say it does a marvelous job driving my GS1000. Ok, the Grados are known to have a slight edge on the highs (slight depending on model and tastes) but the DV332 tames what needs taming and gives you back that sheer musical enjoyment you are looking for with your cans. Bass goes deep and tight. This is one of the most noticable improvements the DV332 has brought. Soundstage (or headstage if you will) is a lot wider and details GALORE!
What the DV332 is particular about (at least my ears tells me) are the the types of interconnects you put between itself and the source. It makes no effort to hide the fact that it knows you are changing cables. I've had four different interconnects at my disposal - vDH The First, DH Labs Silver Sonic BL-1 SII, a Cardas Quadlink 5C and a Wireworld Solstice - and you can tell they all sound different! VDH - clean and almost dead-flat neutral presentation, slight hum audible - a sonic trait of The First on tubes. BL-1 SII - best synergy among the four - dead quiet, fluid, good tonal balance (surprising isn't it for silver) - VALUE FOR MONEY! Quadlink 5C - a bit bass heavy but otherwise equal to that of the BL-1 SII in every way but a lot more expensive Wireworld Solstice - good with most recordings, soundstage narrows down if ever so slightly - it's a typical all-rounder with no specialization (some people like this) The DV332 has done let's see, 35-40 hours and 332 gurus say they really open up to a new level when they hit the 200 hour mark. I'm waiting anxiously because as it is with stock tubes, they sound fantabulous to my ears. |

Of course I'd like to own say a RSA RAPTOR II or a Rudistor RPX-33 and I am sure they sound better than the DV332 but they are in a different league, carrying price tags that are very account damaging. I still feel the DV332 is the best compromise and has the most bang for the buck. It's like the Grado line - after the SR225 or SR325i, the differences are probably minimal but what you pay to buy those small differences is HUGE.
By the way, I own a modified Musical Fidelity X-Can V2 also (it has a very nice pair of Mullards E88CC in it too) and the stock DV332 trumps it hard out of the box. That tells you so much about the DV332's potential |

I can't say I wholly agree because the X-Can worked wonders on my SR325i, which is notoriously known for being Grado's brightest. I would say the GS1000 are a lot more picky and demanding with what you pair it with. The DV332 seems to be able to give it what it needs to perform so I am pleased with the synergy that exists between the two.

No luck getting the MS-1s from Outdoor. Someone is offering a waaaay higher price than I can afford. XD
So my fate lies with arremie's Stock MS-1s... Then I'd have to buy some SR-60 pads cause I like those better. XD |

Sorry about that
Outdoorxplorer's cans are really worth the money. You mentioned MBD is now selling the SR60 for RM328 is that right? If you go to Lelong, Davis is still selling the SR60 for RM292.50 while the SR80 is going for RM388.80. Apart from MBD, Davis is also a reseller for Grados because I bought my SR325i from him. MBD focuses on walk in sales while Davis do the online ones... Here's the link: http://list.lelong.com.my/Auc/List/List.as...MyAuctionType=1 Good luck. |

Grado owner here, have SR60, SR125, and SR225
SR60 sent to yuheng for minor repair... My choice of music has changed much in the past few years, and the sound signature of the grado's are no longer suitable for me... also mostly because the place where I listen to music is noisy and not isolated. The whine from my macbook is easily heard through all of the headphones. Need some good isolated headphones now instead of open air ones. |

I think... The SRs have to be put on hold, because no one has them, and I don't have enough for Arremie's MS-1s till the end of this month, so most prolly I will get a pair of Mylars from Yuheng first, then only go for SRs.

I own a Grado SR-60 (bought it 2 months ago) and currently using it with my 6th Generation iPod (mostly while driving and working). Love the sound but was wondering if anyone can recommend me a matching headphone amp. Currently looking at Headroom Total AirHead but was hoping to find something locally here.

it is not easy getting a headamp here in malaysia unless you are willing to settle with a cmoy or diy amp.

Your local choices are pretty much what you can find in the Garage Sales section. If you don't mind a short trip, you can head over to Jaben in Singapore for a wider choice of amps.

I been to Singapore Jaben at 14 April. I was there to test the Grado SR325i, and at the mean while doing some own business.
Jaben is just a small shop if compare to the shops besides him, but the crowds was just unbelievable, finding a place to stand also a difficulty. This post has been edited by justin78: Jun 9 2008, 10:24 PM |

I think it'll take a while for your gears to break in. Enjoy it as much as you can during this period. Nothing like discovering improvments everytime you put on the cans. Then when you're not listening, run Pink Noise through it on repeat. It's always good to let the gears reproduce the full frequency spectrum.
Hmmm, jumbo pads on RS-1? Interesting! How does it sound? |

playing music all day long now. jumbo pads produces much bigger soundstage and ears much more comfortable like yours.

Cool! Glad the jumbo pads are working out for you man. Some didn't like the way they sounded with their cans. They say the sound becomes a bit recessed as a result.
But one thing they all agreed on about the Jumbo pads - the comfort level is AWESOME! Later when you are free, snap some shots man! I would love to see the new beaus and of course the RS-1 on Jumbo pads! |

Hello all!
I just bought Grado sr80 recently (3 weeks ago I think) at music by design, the price is RM435 and I got discount so it became RM 390. Previously I had sennheiser px100, when I compared with Grado, definetly this Grado is rocking on treble, details, and clarity (after burn in) but.......but....... I'm a bit dissapointed on the low level frequency, yes the bass compared to px100.......sennheiser is the winner here. Anyway i'm really happy with my Grado clarity and sound, and I'm going to get AKG K 414 P soon to satisfied my desire for the low frequency as I checked that this AKG gives a really really deep and bumy bass, but for overall sound Grado is the winner. |

the mids and the lows require some time to settle in with the stock cables. u may wanna try recable your sr80 to gain some mids and lows freq.
QUOTE(ablacklist @ Jun 28 2008, 12:47 AM) Hello all! I just bought Grado sr80 recently (3 weeks ago I think) at music by design, the price is RM435 and I got discount so it became RM 390. Model numbers. 325i sounds like a BMW car model. While to me the GS1000 sounds like a Motorbike model, a Kawasaki perhaps.
Added on July 27, 2008, 12:18 amI found sanctuary. It belongs in a pair of SR-60s. I finally got a pair! From AV fair, MBD. And also, I can finally clearly (Originally I always theorized about the differences) hear the difference (From about 5 minutes of testing) the difference between SR-60s and 80s, with the help of a decent HeadAmp. well, Pricklely Peete at head-fi has tested 3 OPA and found great sound with it, albeit a bit warm of course. those OPA are class A and should not fail the sq. the soundstage is even more wider than rs1 but it was previous under utilized as the 1st owner ran the can < 150 hour after 5 months. this can really needs some serious run in which i was told..

Added on September 22, 2008, 9:30 amMany says RAPTOR is not a good bet for Grado GS1000 and in fact many Tube/Valve Amps are not the amps for low impendence cans. I kinda decided to have a go to order a RAPTOR and get some tubes roling. Positive feedback with Telefunken and Tung-Sol tubes as I read from Head-Fi last week. QUOTE(etteoh @ May 30 2008, 09:55 AM) Of course I'd like to own say a RSA RAPTOR II or a Rudistor RPX-33 and I am sure they sound better than the DV332 but they are in a different league, carrying price tags that are very account damaging. I still feel the DV332 is the best compromise and has the most bang for the buck. It's like the Grado line - after the SR225 or SR325i, the differences are probably minimal but what you pay to buy those small differences is HUGE. This post has been edited by outdoorxplorer: Sep 22 2008, 09:30 AMBy the way, I own a modified Musical Fidelity X-Can V2 also (it has a very nice pair of Mullards E88CC in it too) and the stock DV332 trumps it hard out of the box. That tells you so much about the DV332's potential |

I prefer pairing my GS1000 with the sr-71a instead of my raptor. Since i've tube rolled my raptor for the hd650, changing the stock 12AU7 to the Mullard CV491 military 12AU7, it increases the soundstage of the raptor by twice which the GS1000 could not take it and thus changing it sound signature to be too airy. However it pairs well with the hd650. The tube cost me a bomb though.
As for pairing the GS1000 with the sr-71a, GS1000 is known to have a very recessed mid which requires an amp which a forward mid to bring it out. Hence it pairs well with the GS1000. GS1000 soundstage is huge and the sr-71a do have a very "natural" soundstage with and good width and height imo. |

Good to hear from another RSA's product owner. I am agreeable that the stock tubes is a no no for GS1K and by replacing with NOS Telefunken ECC82 and NOS Tung Sol 5687s, it does the work pretty well.

If you're looking for soundstage, the Grado signature has a really narrow one though.MS-1 is commonly said to be a revamped SR80, though I have yet to test them both side by side to be able to agree with such a statement. |

I've got a pair of SR125's, and i must say, I LOVE THEM.
But, Grado Grattle? I think i may have experienced it. Like, a vibrating sort of sound, sounds like the speakers are loose or something? I only get it when pumping them through the phones port on my guitar amp, but it is somewhat worrying. It's a common problem? I thought i had to send mine for repair. |

just got my Grado SR80i
yup....kinda budget headphone first impression out of the box: superb bass response, smooth and quite linear sounding..... stage is quite open character: i would say its slightly on the warm side...my kinda preference overall....happy with it for a headphone that cost less than rm400.....i would say this grado is impressive dont think u can have the same SQ within the same price range havent plug in to ipod yet...thought of running in first currently plugged in to Asus Essense STX |

I would comment that all Grado range upto RS1 are easily driven even without an amp. However GS1K onwards are bit picky and needs an proper amp otherwise your hard earned cash will goes in to the bin.

QUOTE(+3kk! @ Jun 23 2009, 02:00 PM) rs-2 and rs-1 r a different league from rest of gradosrs-2 is less midrange compare to rs-1 rs-1 is more mid orient and great for vocals gs-1 is very picky with certain amps and known as grados with soundstage...a bit uncanny on lower bass and highs but the ps-1 is very good and i can attest to that even i am not a grados fan have came to decision that it is the best grados can ever produced....it fixed all weakness of the grados famous rattle and very easy to drive with the extreme airness and soundstage of some the best cans have |

hi, i'm became a grado lab fanz today. My rs80i is just received. Bought from davis lelong store. But, the pads are not the bowl one. It is like 60i. When i asked the seller, he claimed that the bowl pad is the old model. As it shown at grado website. Anyone that have just purchased rs80i or know about this?

A 80 or 225 will be a decent starup unless you have the budget for reference series and yet a decent amp may be required for reference setup. State your budget and current setup here may help. |

Thinking to get myself a SR60i, but is it really worth the money, since this brand is expensive outside U.S.? I even saw comments on KSC75 performance is near SR60. Or should I go for SR80i or MS1i instead?

Need some advice... I listen to all types of music, from Jazz to Hard Rock. Should I get the SR60, SR80 or the MS1? Btw, what's the difference with those models with the "i" behind? Thanks. |

QUOTE(+3kk! @ Nov 13 2009, 04:40 PM) well its just a wonder, but i wont listen to them too far away. since its a 32ohm it can be driven easily... but from what i read, the grados can do better with current amplification.. basS? well grado aint good for bass, was never and will never be while i do admit a better bass would make thigns all the more interesting however that would spoil the grado sound i guess. yea a dac amp is nice, one thing good abotu grado is that they are not that picky when it comes to driving them. however the headphone itself is rather picky id say QUOTE(Vigilant @ Nov 13 2009, 05:22 PM) SR225i... I wish I could afford that, now my budget is very tight, you know it's festive season again huhu.. get those ms1 n sr125i side by side.. then you'll know what i meant.. it really comes down to preference anyway.. how a headphone sound is rather subjective.. some may say this is great. some may say not.. the only way is to trust your ears.. Thinking to let go my ZERO... thinking of a woody or "magnum" mod for my grado.. not sure which to go.. maybe ill go for the alu sound chamber mod first as lathe machine is nearby |

QUOTE(huh? @ Nov 13 2009, 10:32 PM) this is concerning on the amp or the grado mod? well higher range grado makes limited diff, to be honest ive not heard much from grado since its rather rare, but with the one i own i dont think there are significant differences that justify an amped grado.sry.. blur...huhuhu ok got it.. its the amp.. yeah.. an amp is not something that i would fork a lot of money esp with my current grado SR60i.. a dual mono cmoy will do just fine imo... i just need a better source as my mobo sound card is not that great from the start anyway.. then again, i do feel grado are very limited in a lot of ways. I can agree with that, not much improvement can be achieved by amping Grado, but an improvement is still consider as improvement no matter how significant it is. Not sure about how the higher end model can perform but for me I like the sound signature. Just that it's pricey. Talk about money

I am a MS-1 owner for a good 3 years now, was saving toward a pair of MS-2i (prefer Alessandro smoother sound) but got the SR325i goldies instead. Well, it is free so I can't complain (won the logo design contest for Ken@ALO new retail shop, the 32 OHM Audio).
Anyway, SR325i does pair extremely well with tube amp. Not really about the need of power but they have great synergy together. |

My very young sister have destroyed my Grado Labs SR-60, she ripped the soft earpiece apart, the cables also damaged and grayed, well you get the idea.
Any replacement headphones you guys can recommend me that is same quality but better comfort than the SR-60? I hate the SR-60's fit, it flattens my ears like pancakes |

Recommend? Sound quality? The nearest sound signature can be heard with KSC75. Other than that I'm not sure which headphone brand have similar sound signature, but if you like bulky and cover ear type headphones, but comfort, you can try Audio Technica. But the sound is way different if you categorized both Grado and Audio Technica on a price range.Any replacement headphones you guys can recommend me that is same quality but better comfort than the SR-60? Yes it has an aluminum housing. Personally I don't think that is the major contributor of the final sound. I could be wrong on this but I am not going to prove or disprove myself. I am happy as it is QUOTE(Vigilant @ Nov 14 2009, 07:54 PM) Bass is excellent on SR325i. Not really a lot in quantity but still quite good as an open-back headphone. In comparison, MS-1 has less bass in both quantity and quality. |

Well I'm not sure about SR225i though... would really love if one day we could yamcha together and compare each other's grado... Anyone here can compare SR125i, SR225 vs SR325? In term of Low - Mid - High frequency, and specifically in bass frequency. Can also add some other factors if you like? for library, you should really consider a closed can or a earbud.. IEM are the best when it comes to library situation..huhuh.. i myself has a ath ck300 for library use.. can use the grado in the library man.. else ill be kicked out the minute i turn on my DAP..hahaha...
got my zero dac today.. fuwaaa.. nice dac amp..huhuhu.. suits my taste really well.. widen the soundstage significantly.. This post has been edited by huh?: Nov 23 2009, 11:38 PM |

QUOTE(huh? @ Nov 27 2009, 03:17 AM) just do it! hahaha finally done and have time to take some pictures. This is a grado sr80. There is an improvement in the sound stage since the mod includes a front spacer. This front spacer create distance between the transducer (is this the correct name?) and the ear. The vocal is also more intimate and the sound sig become a bit warmer. Everything feels nicer. hehehe all of this might be very subjective since i dont really have another grado sr 80 to compare it with. Last but not least, it looks nice isn't it?hahaha.. it wont hurt that much.. people around the world has been modding grado for years.. here is some pictures: |

hey guys, went to the bose store in the gardens mall today and had a listen to their around-ear headphones and came back a little disappointed.
How does the SR80 compare? I like the bose b/c of the weight (light) & comfort, but unfortunately the sound doesn't match. Have any of you listen to both? My apologies if this has been asked before, but the grado thread (part 1 and 2) is over 120 pages and I don't know where to start. Added on December 13, 2009, 5:25 pmOh, and does anyone know how the audio technica AD700 compare? I heard they are more comfortable, but less bassy, and better for games and movies. The Grado's are good for rock and roll. This post has been edited by OmniAtlas: Dec 13 2009, 05:25 PM |

My SR60s still sitting there. Not used very often anymore as sound is intermittently on and off on the left. Is there someone who can fix this as a cheap service or do I really have to recable the whole thing via PcWorks?

AD700 has wide soundstage while grados are tend to be forward with the high frequencies.. you might wanna try it out first if you get the chance though.. as diff headphones suits different people.. grados don't have that much of a bass impact but the bass is well presented.. not too much nor too little.. have it like this.. the AD700 puts you in the audience of a concert while the grado will put you ON the stage.. that is the only way that i could think how describe how different this two headphone is.. It's a connection/contact problem around one inch from the opening for the wires from the left driver, when it's twisted or pulled, it happens.

newer batch of grado. has different soldering temperature as older one.
old one can take up to 350C. but new one. pls set the temperature to less than 280C. else u might burn the voice coil. especially some that they originally solder badly. that the cable is soldered with big dump of lead. and the lead is directly heating up the voice coil when u attempt to change wire. set ur temperature lower, and work faster when u heat them up. it shall be fine. make sure you know what u wanna do when u touch ur soldering gun on the lead. don't heat up only u consider what's next. |

here is a site with grado mods compilation.. you can follow it.. it is not hard to mod a grado just be careful not to ruin your tranducers... the most hard part of the mod is to disassemble it..

Instead of taking apart everything, can I just cut apart the affected area of the cable and tie them back together or something? I've did it for cheap speakers before, they're practically the same right? Then I'll just duct/electric tape to cover the opening or something until I get the cash for recabling.
I do have another option, that is to see if MBD can provide simple fixes to this or something. Without costing me too much, that is. Edit: After reading through that page. I WANT THE ADDITIONAL JACKS ON THE HEADPHONES. <3<3<3 That would solve so many of my problems. XD This post has been edited by Yuki Ijuin: Dec 19 2009, 02:27 AM |

I'm not sure about now but MBD used to sent Grados back to USA for repairs. The shipping and the time just doesn't make much sense.

The one year RMA period has ended for me. I still have the old Grados SR60s, not the sexier SR60is. XD
I'll see when I can trudge over to MBD and see if they can do a simple fix. If not, I'll just scrounge up enough for a PCworks recabling. Hopefully it can take the abuse I dish out on it after recabling. I understand the pricing things, as it's also a niche job as well. I've taken apart quite a few speakers for parts and salvaging when I really needed audio back then, so I understand it's quite tedious, but Grados is a pair of 300RM cans, it kind of intimidates me so that I don't feel like doing it actually. that's why I'm considering either to see whether MBD has simple fixes, or save up money for PCwork. XD hehe.. i understand your concern.. but seriously.. you will be saving A LOT if you do it on your own.. myb because im a risk taker DIYer that i dont feel so worried when i decided to open up my grado just for the sake of experimenting.. btw, when you are at it.. do the grill mod as well.. you will be amazed on what small difference like that will make..I'll see when I can trudge over to MBD and see if they can do a simple fix. |

QUOTE(huh? @ Dec 19 2009, 08:44 PM) well.. you can.. but that is if they only problem is that particular area.. i would recommend you soldering it rather than duct/electric tape though.. recabling is not expansive if you do it by yourself man.. you just need to be careful when you are doing it.. reason being that PcWorks charges at that price is, the whole process of disassembling a headphone is tedious..not hard.. for the price i charge. i did some other things other than just pure recable it.to final tweaks the sound. do your own headphone is one case.while do it for other ppl totally another case. doing it for your own, u can use naked wire, super ugly looking or melt some plastic part when you solder, no one is going to blame you as long as you can accept it by yourself. but when do other's ppl headphone. those things are not acceptable. try imagine, doing recable with sleeve, and have to secure the sleeve nicely (some with double sleeve) so that it doesn't accidentally come out. solder point were solder tidily, without over heat it. silver contact point cleaner? WBT silver soldering lead that cost me RM 580 for merely a small roll??? stay in mind that if you had done it ugly. the headphone virtually has VERY VERY LOW resales value. even u can sell oso it will cost much lesser than original price you had bought it. or to say even LOWER than the usual second hand price for un-modded version. you might said cosmetic is nothings, but seriously, get it done nicely is not easy at all rather just recable it. if customer sent their earphone for me to recable, i can just simply do it, super ugly looking, yet sounds perfectly all right, and charge relatively cheap price. but do you think the customer dare to bring it out? use at office? or even bring it to audiophile gathring? however when i do recable for my customer. i have to consider that point oso. paying RM 150 for my recable is too much? there's a numbers of MS1 recabled by me sold for over RM 500 while the new headphone itself just RM 280-350 previously. try to request for recable service in headfi, with similar workmanship and parts that i provide and check if u can get it done RM 150 or not. so pls do not simply comment on my work/ price if you don't have a clue what i am doing on those recabled headphone i had done. by the way. QUOTE(duh2k @ Dec 26 2009, 08:16 AM) how's the ms1 now as compared to the stock cabling? any impressions? PCWORK recable is awesome...even i can say this MS1 is no more longer can deal side by side with a normal stock one.. This MS1 is bring me some nice impression on the smooth bass, The Mid & High is well being seperately heard. If stock cable everything is srew up.. I had been a grado SR80 last time about before i end up to upgrade to Premium Headphone. This MS1 is really not MS1 that is simply recable and the sounding is much perfect compare with other recable MS1 that i heard. Till i'm satified with it. I just Auditioned this Cans less than 10 min to grab it. Is really a good deal with it. Talk about soundstage here this MS1 is totally different and the soundstage come out dunno where then..it just pop suddenly..wow is a great. and more neutral..btw, bro pcwork, how do you receive ms1's for recabling? via pos? or i drive down to your place to pass to you? |

I've been reading a thread in headfi about Grado Harshness. I personally only owned Sr 80 and never had the chance to listen to other type of grado. SR80 for me is not harsh at all. yes, it is bright cans. it can deliver the high and mids very well. or perhaps i am getting used to its signature. What do you guys think? Please tell me about your opinion. especially those who owns other types of grado.

QUOTE(anchovies93 @ Aug 28 2010, 01:32 AM) go search on how to open a grado can.. once you get pass that stage, everything else is simple.. grado has a very simple design inside the cans.i only sealed mine with blu tacks instead of hot glue so its easier to open and can perform more mods in the future |

Bought the Grado-Alessandro from Jaben during the KLIAV show recently. Superb headphones. Running it via MF X-CANV3 amp. Very airy and open sound. However, having problem with the right can. It keeps coming off from the slim metal stick. A bit dissapointed on the build quality though.

Point is, at that price, i would expect a better and sturdy built.it's not the black cap only but also the stick slides too much. don't like using superglue. the ms1i is my precious toy |

you think i can re-cap only, but i think you can re-cable only
re-cable is so easy. just solder the cable only. easier than re-capping. if use audio jack can hide all the ugly solder job inside the plug head. if people want to see your DIY they will go to your own thread. so stop harassing me |

Eh. My SR60s right side slipped off the metal thingy too.
Here's what I did. I heated up the metal thingy and wobbled it back into the slot melting a little bit of plastic to keep it in place, works like a charm. :3 |

Dear beggermaster bro, I hope ur tone in the replies and posting should be not so offensive. I sometimes wants to bash ur posting but I resisted due to the idea I kept in mind that offending someone is not always u want in ur life, why makes ur life so hard? U might need their help someday when u r in trouble.
I personally thinks this is the best thread showing how u can mod your grado/alessandro for further improvement. Don't see any appropriateness in the post. Pcwork's recabling is one of the best I found and it is not flimsy and "cin cai do" type. The cable is quite sturdy even and last very long on the connecting. The cable he try one by one to do matching. Not like someone simply find a cable and do it and post it here. |

I have to agree with what walabies and the others had said regarding PcWork's recabling product. It is not just taking any cable as he pleases and just solder them, he makes sure that each of them sounds how he expects them to sound that its best. He tests each of them based on quality and sound reproduction as well, and I have no doubt in his quality of work.
So, why the attack on another people? Is your credibility is on the line? Or you just wanna tick someone off because of jealousy? |

oh my .. not even here..
oh well regarding the cans coming off.. im rather surprised to get to know about the problem here as my SR60 is pretty old in addition i lend it to alot of ppl to take home and use (ive not used it personally for almost 4 months already) and it doenst occur to me but what i had problems with and most friends who borrowed my grado has the same share of (1)problem ... the tedious spinning around to wear the headphone so the cable wont tangle around the neck |

QUOTE(power911 @ Oct 2 2010, 03:44 PM) @power911: Bro PcWork said clear epoxy, even bolded it and suggested Bostrik brand. beggarmaster2000, PcWork does a very high quality job when he recables. He selects the cables he buys, then goes over the cables before he starts anything to make sure the cables meet his standard before he even cuts them. He matches, braids, and tests each strand and cable over and over again before he solders, and when he solders he pays attention to doing it right and neatly: I was watching him solder Koss cables, and he really takes care when handling things. After he solders he checks the headphone again to make sure there is nothing wrong before calling the job done. Can you say the same for your own work? From the way you fix the jack, you simply fix it up so it works, but heaven knows how long your fix will last, the way you do it: the pics provided don't inspire much confidence at all. Hell, I am positive my Form 1 Kemahiran Hidup work soldering transistors to boards looked a danged sight neater than that jack! Considering the damage done to the jack, I think that replacing the jack might've been a better and longer lasting option. Also, PcWork's Symphonica cable is the product of nearly 2 years or so of hard work testing and experimenting to find the right cables and solder and jacks to achieve the best sound he can achieve. Go and produce something as good with that amount of work and care and professionalism, and then you can talk. Not before. So far all we've seen of your work in this area is you switching out transistor caps, with very little reasoning as to why. People recable for a reason. You don't seem to have a reason for recapping, or at least not one you care to share with the rest of the class? At least I hope you're learning as you recap stuff. Be a shame to do all that blindly by trial and error and not learn from it. Lastly: I would say that everyone has a right to defend themselves whenever the occasion calls for it. Even criminals can have lawyers to represent them in the court, but PcWork and Jaben cannot defend themselves when you say something about them? You comment on PcWork and Jaben, and then complain when they answer your comment and come into your thread to do it; even expect them NOT to answer back to all the malarkey you sling about. What is that but an unfair reaction? Then people don't mention you in their posts/thread; yet you go and disparage them in your post/threads. You even come into their thread and make nasty comments. How is that sensible? Think about it. This post has been edited by ArianneG: Oct 2 2010, 08:03 PM |

My another comment about PcWork's recable work and some words to beggarmaster.
I am currently using recabled KSC 75. And once I let my friend try then he directly say want one unit. I directly help him call up Yuheng and order one unit. I meant no offense but if you try Symphonica, you will know. And also MS 1 wood mod.. It's not simply "RECABLING" as in "fixing it back to piece". I saw your intention of helping other people but you really don't need to comment on other people works. Anyway, when you really listen those recabled stuff, then you will understand. Unless you can work out something nice,I suggest you don't comment on the price. PcWork also can simply do,without making it so nice, but what will other people think? If you think his prices are high yet so many people still going after him for his recabling service, then you will understand why by "common sense". |

Bro beggarmaster, i think this is not right to say a people is not good on their workmanship...Pcwork is done a remarkable fixing and recabling for the community in Audiophile. I think i can say there is always a improvement in every single way. for example i got a same cable same plug with the different people doing the soldering. But i can say pcwork recable and soldering skill is profesional. I did witness and see how he works on the soldering. And i think ever since we know each other since we bump in this thread for 6 years. i did see his workmanship is much more beyond i see..is premium work..so pls not to say a people workmanship is a lousy or shit pls..you cannot judge this..try it you will know..

Strange. The last I saw, gentleman and a$$hole were mutually exclusive. Make up your mind as to which are you.
My friend actually thought Symphonica was factory made. Jaw dropped when I said it was hand made. |

I too don't think is right to comment on ppl workmanship when he has done so much to the community. Not every Audiophiles are a good DIY but loves good music, which is what we are all about. I myself owns a few of this "re-cable" work and it is even more durable then factory made one many times over. I have never had the need to send back for repair. Some re-cable like the symphonica cable brings the headphone to another level totally, I don't think you can ever get that with simple re-cable eh? Just my 2c.everyone don't angry la =) i'm gentleman but also assholo =) |

sorry to interfere about that.
all factory terminated CABLES for audio, as long as it is not super cheap type, it will be TERMINATED BY HAND. so the question of hand made VS factory made is not even exits. since 99.9% cable out there WERE hand terminated for more reliability even though they are named as "original Factory Terminated" take cardas cable for example. each and single of the cable has the personnel's signature on the cable as well as the certificates of it. And i think ever since we know each other since we bump in this thread for 6 years. i did see his workmanship is much more beyond i see..is premium work..so pls not to say a people workmanship is a lousy or shit pls..you cannot judge this..try it you will know.. Totally agree. If u guys ever had a chance to witness how he does his job, u will never have a question on his skills and workmanship. I myself do diy as hobby, but when i look at how he treat his works with so much of intensity and passion, i'm simply beaten. I disagree that gentlemen n axxhole can be in the same body at the same time, it just not make sense, sth must be wrong. PS: Im sorry if my words pollute this thread in anyway. aha... I still have my MS1i stock unmodified...
still great sounding to my ears great trebles and tight bass wOOts somehow this suits trance music very well I have to say this ms1i sounded better compared to the stax headphone I've tried years ago during hp gathering in Jaben now that's a very unfair comparison This post has been edited by power911: Oct 3 2010, 08:56 PM |

QUOTE(power911 @ Oct 12 2010, 11:33 PM) How much would that cost? I noticed it's a tube amp and most people say that the Grado RS-1i goes best with tube amps. However, I don't think I have that much money to shell out for a high-end amp yet. I'll most probably go with the iBasso D10 for now. |

Anyone ever done a comparison between the SR80i and the RS-1i? My dad currently owns the SR80i. I wanna know if the difference between those two models are a lot, or just minor differences.

the recabled ksc75 is comparable even to the sr80 and ms1? thats quite a huge comparison although i dont think its up to that level yet and not as foward. if the sr60 shows dat sort of improvement after recabling then im wondering about sr80 cause i doubt i would recable if i get the ms1 but the other two, maybe.

Depends on what music you usually listen to.MS1 controls the bass much better and punchier at the same time compared to KSC75.

QUOTE(maxwelx64 @ Oct 31 2010, 01:00 AM) well by the times goes seems like the bass is getting deeper and deeper and the bass already been controlled very well.Might getting the metal can ver. for the LM4562.I heard that the performance is pretty much the same as LME49720HA but without giving any high dc offset which is awesome really |
