I do not buy markers that much. The last time I bought them was 4 years ago. So I would not know the prices of markers. My school, UM, got special prices...particular even more so if you are close to "Uncle Win".

Yeah I know. Double tip. No longer using them though.

Side note. Anyone here doing architecture up in Hong Kong or Dubai? Or knows anyone working there? Want to know expected salary and benefits, lifestyle, etc.

Lecturer did have an offer to Dubai to work on one of the projects on the Palms. salary was 15k. but the living cost there. is extremely high.. half of ur salary would go into the rental.

i'll try to get more info for you on that.

Hey...i need some advice here.

I got admission into HKU architecture. but i'm only offered HKD35000 and my parents will still have to pay up to nearly RM56000, plus all expenses PER YEAR. Which is quite impossible for two retired teachers living on their pensions.

So, any advice? i couldn't find any scholarship that offers architecture overseas. plus even if there are such scholarships it'll be well over their deadlines now.

I don't want to sound ignorant or anything, cos' i know it's ranked 18th among 200 unis in THES, but what do you guys think about HKU architecture? is it really very good? i am thinking about writing letters to corporations, asking for sponsorship (though i don't really think we're supposed to do that and i'm probably wasting my time, but i really don't know what else to do).

>.<

I worked with some of the lads from HKU before through ACAU 2007 KL and I must say these guys (especially those in my group) are damn good. I would say that their architecture school should be awesome. I'm not sure where you can get sponsors but you should try all avenues since HKU is a good university. BTW, you do speak cantonese right?

well, with THES aside, HKU is one of the leading architecture school in asia. NUS will always claim that they're above HKU, and australian unis will wanna dispute that. but personally, i believe HKU is one of the best in asia. most of my reference in my studies in architecture education refers to a few professors there, and that is really something, notably prof. thomas kvan.

i might actually be seeing him in a year's time. if u're there, yuexia, maybe i could meet u too wink.gif.

in my personal list of preferred architecture schools, HKU is top 5 in the world, sits just below cambridge. my preferred schools would be the bartlett, sheffield, berkely, cambridge, HKU etc... but this is my personal list aaa... dont try and dispute it tongue.gif

the architectural workshop started off in the mid 80s by UTM as social gathering of architecture students from all the schools in malaysia, IPTA, IPTS and polytechnic schools included. this is where u get to know what other schools are doing, get to know other people and basically socialize. architects are in fact social beasts. so this is one way to satisfy their lust to socialize.

but bcoz the hosts are IPTAs (with LKW being the only IPTS co-host), it must have an academic content to pass as a student event. hence they have workshop programmes which is less formal education and more people oriented. so u can learn while at the same time go hu-ha along the way.

at the same time, there are lots of competitions held there, the most popular one is the design competition. this is where u gauge urself against the best from other schools. the competition is prestigious enough that it became the standard to compare how good each school is.

it's an annual event, and each year the host will be rotated between UTM, UiTM, USM, UM, UIAM and UPM. so this year it's USM, next will be UM.

attending such event as a participant adds up to ur credentials as an architecture graduate. hosting a workshop is event greater prestige.

the host will usually issue a formal invitation to each school, normally direct to the head of school. is zatur still the head of school in LKW? ask her. the school will talk to the student body, and from there on the student body will organize a selection. normally each school could send about 20-30 students only, but everyone would wanna go. so pandai2 select between urself lah. biggrin.gif
