I want to drive commercial vehicles mah. Still have some stuff to finish up regarding driver authorization.

And yes, Malaysian licenses are still fully valid in QLD. My Queensland license is limited to auto and commercial auto, if i want to drive manual i'll just switch back to malaysian.

Makes life easier to have an australian licence.. Dunnit to bring your passport around with you all the time if you wanna go to pubs or need ID ..
Also, if you own a car, the rego is lower if you have a local licence as opposed to another country's licence. Since we are students, we get 12 months validity on our Malaysian licences, so it isnt really a problem unless you;re planning to stay through summer. If you are going to be a PR, might as well get your australian licence over and done with.

Since you guys are talking about driving licence, just one question: Is it possible for me to convert my full Malaysian driving licence to aussie licence by just taking the theory test(or whatever test is needed) etc without having to start from scratch, i.e going through the P level again? I'm talking about NSW licence in particular btw.

you do NOT need to stay in oz to be eligible to apply for pr..........go to their immigration website:

http://www.immi.gov.au/

eligibility is based on points system......

Why did you want to open a Maybank account?

I never see a Maybank branch here in aus.

i think maybank has a branch in sydney......but i don't think they do retail banking........

if you want to do intra bank transfer, try hsbc.......

otherwise, the cheapest way to transfer money is by bank draft.....

If it's like that, whats the point of opening a Maybank account if Sydney only have one branch?

I do agree, the cheapest way to send money is by bank draft.

Yes; HSBC or CitiBank; most use Hsbc TT.

if you are using bankdraft; the money travel with you in hand; n it cost about RM7 if i`m not mistaken; depends on the bank`s connection with overseas & charges.
When do you need money for emergency? Eg pls;
Upon arrival; it is advise to have some amount in hand; as in less than about A1000.
as far i know: the alternative for you currently without knowing the emergency case is credit card bcos it can cover you up awhile.
it takes about 3 days or more to clear the bankdraft. smile.gif

hope this helps.

in emergency, use tt, but be prepared to pay, at both ends......

bank draft will take 1 week to reach by registered post, and then 3 working days to clear......

but really, you should manage your finances such that 'emergencies' do not happen.......if you wait till your last dollar before asking your parent for money, that is bad management.......

which state are you going?
the east n west of australia have different domination; but basically most of us here choose CBA(commonwealth bank); you can go with ANZ, NAB or WESTPAC(st George); individual preferences.
Please refer first page.

It depends on which visa you apply; for those studied in australia; they need to apply for TR before they can be granted full PR which will take sometime.
some; they will go through employer or company skills migration scheme n to get also I heard they need about 2 years to be in Australia.

You can lodge enquire thru the website given. smile.gif in earlier reply.
