I feel real sad whenever I think of my hamster's lifespan. They only will live up to 3 years only and I hope the day never comes to see them dead in the cage. Anyone here experience death of a hamster through old age?

There could have been an underlying disease, could have been stress if they were living together, could have been anything, but it can't be heart break. Most animals do not love, there are some things they do may resemble it, but it's not love like how we experience it.

Yups, animals breed in order to survive. Kinda worrying when people put human emotions together with animals. I see this happening to people buying on impulse from most petshops. For example, when I was at Petsmore to get my hamsters, the staff asked Reanne and I, "Do you want a male and female couple?" Wahhh.... that really was.... well, this would wrongly mislead alot of new hamster owners. They would think all hamsters have to be in an opposite sex pair. Worst is that the hamsters I bought were Syrians! Well, in the end I got a male and female but of course they are in their own cages tongue.gif

hmm.gif hmm.gif hmm.gif Wonder if hamster can love or hate, and they will recognise 'wife' or 'husband' like human do, then will they be any lesbian or gay hamster pairs?????? just like humans sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

Please stop putting human's emotion in animals..... they can never never never understand and know about emotions.

Human don't really die of heart broken as well. Maybe all the hamster suffered and died of the same disease which the owner not knowing.... hmm.gif hmm.gif hmm.gif

Human died of hunger, malnutrition and dehydration, therefore lead to organs failure resulting from refusing to eat or drink, it's all the complications of not eating and drinking, not heart broken. Heart broken is just a factor to cause mentally depression and lead to all these actions, and it's also a feeling not a disease or illness. Human who died from this 'reason' is because of depression. I'm sure hamsters don't have this problem icon_rolleyes.gif as there are only vets, no vet psychiatrist out there cause animals don't need one smile.gif That's why humans have wisdom that can think and be logic unlike animals. It's also why hamster can be kept by human but human can't be kept by animals. There's a reason for all the differentials between humans and animals. smile.gif
