wait HD3970? or HD3870?

the one ATI released is called HD3800 series with 70 being the equivalent of the XT and 50 equivalent of a pro.

Finally they (ATI) learn something on how to be the best. But dont forget Nvidia 9800 waiting in the list. It is said to be 2x more power than 8800 ultra. Check this out:

QUOTE
1. By Q4 2007 (Xmas) NVIDIA will be releasing their GeForce 9800 series GPUs.
Unlike previously expected the codename for nVidia's next generation GPU will NOT be "G90" but instead be "G92".

G92 will be released in November 2007 timeframe, which would make sense... The 8800GT has the G92. It would seem that they're letting us test it, overclock it.

"G92" GeForce 9800 GTX specs.

- 65nm process technology at TSMC.
- Over one billion transistors.
- Second Generation Unified Shader Architecture.
- Double precsion support (FP64).
- GPGPU native.
- Over one TeraFLOPS of shader processing power.
- MADD+ADD configuration for the shader untis (2+1 FLOPS=3 FLOPS per ALU)
- Fully Scalar design.
- 512-bit memory interface.
- 1024MB GDDR4 graphics memory.
- DirectX 10.1 support.
- OpenGL 3.0 Support.
- eDRAM die for "FREE 4xAA".
- built in Audio Chip.
- built in tesselation unit (in the graphics core"
- Improved AA and AF quality levels

Pros.

65nm process will allow for better yields and better power consumption. power consumption will be lower than that of a GeForce 8800 GTX.

GeForce 9800 GTX will be over two times faster than a GeForce 8800 Ultra in real world games and applcations.

Release date : November 2007. There will be TWO products at launch: The flagship GeForce 9800 GTX and the second fastest GeForce 9800 GTS.

price for the GeForce 9800 GTX will be 549-649 USD.

price for the GeForce 9800 GTS will be 399-449 USD.

But thats only speculation. Then again i'm maybe wrong. icon_rolleyes.gif

It has a inbuild octa core with nitro cooling...

Next Geforce high end part will not be G92 right now. It will use the G80 IIRC due to the need for high clockspeeds and the supply and clocking issues with the G92.

Those Radeon HD3870 and HD3850 (Crossfire Mode) giving Nvidia 8800GT (SLI Mode) a run for its money.

Funny how one single 8800GT can beat one Radeon HD3870 consistently yet two Radeon HD3870 performed just as good if not better than two Radeon HD3850.

Now, we have more choices and with reviews up the internet, consumer can make an informed decision which to sink their hard earned money into.

yeah but hmm one thing is being downplayed

the catalyst control program to control crossfire still sux badly

it crashes for no reason.. etc blah blah blah.. list goes on and on

while nvidia performance might be lower etc
does not happen so often in xp
except for vista 64.

It will be a non-cutdown G92 for the faster card coming soon. G80 has been EOL'd, they're just selling whatever old stocks they have.

Added on November 28, 2007, 4:38 pmps i find running crysis gpu demo gpu benchmark loop a very good test to test stability. for gpu

and for cpu use the cpu benchmark...

usually i increase the loop to 10 for both via editing the bat file.

I think 3870 crossfire performance will be no more than 50% over highly overclock 8800GT.
