QUOTE(hangy2k @ Dec 8 2007, 06:34 PM) my eeepc was sent to service center after few days of using it, my SSD seems got some problem, cannot boot into the OS. And i broke my warranty seal to install 2gb RAM. but still it is under warranty. uh?? mean? the stickers no longer important to warranty issue? http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=4520 ASUS Computer International ("ASUS") recently received feedback from one of its valued customers with questions concerning the purpose of a seal stating, "Warranty Void If Removed" over the access door to the single SODIMM slot on some models of the ASUS Eee PC. ASUS wishes to assure its customers that merely breaking or removing this kind of seal will not void the ASUS Limited Warranty. Although ASUS recommends that customers use ASUS-approved service facilities and components, ASUS is committed to honoring the terms of its Limited Warranty and making sure that its customers are free to make appropriate hardware and software modifications and upgrades, regardless of whether the service is performed by an approved facility, a non-approved service provider, or by the customers themselves. ASUS will replace the warranty label with a label to warn users that ASUS will not be responsible for the damage caused by improper hardware change. ASUS is taking steps to make sure that the seals in question are no longer used in its products that are intended to be sold in any country where these stickers are not permitted. the DDR2 533 is enuf for celeron? like tat i oso 1 2 top up the ram liao...then convert to xp » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « hang, urs is XP redy? Ram size leh? 1GB? eh, how much space XP occupied? i tried out the Voice Command, bloody hard to use it, maybe my english is bad.. |

Ok, my eeePC runs WinXP very well right now.
The main reason I did the upgrade to 2GB is not for performance issues, but rather because with more RAM it means that I can turn off the paging file and reduce wear on the SSD. I tried to move the paging file and the temporary internet files to the SD card but... the pity is that my 2GB SanDIsk Extreme card just isn't fast enough to handle it. The system slows to a crawl when the temporary internet files are stored there. Wonder if a class 6 SDHC card makes a difference or not? |

before you start xp installation you need to set the os installation switch to start in the bios, after you finish and it boots into windows for the first time, do a restart and set os installation switch to end in the bios.
Also make sure the webcam is enabled in the BIOS. I have reinstalled vista and xp multiple times camera works everytime. |

Dun worry more HDD space coming.. hang on to your eePC.. I bet just need to re image over enough adi..
Toshiba to make 128GB solid state drive Mass production under way By Nick Farrell: Monday, 10 December 2007, 7:25 AM TOSHIBA SAID that it will mass produce solid state drives ranging in sizes of between 32 gigabytes to 128 gigabytes next year. The 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch drives will be launched in May as part of a cunning plan to push solid state drives and force the current technology into signing its UB40. Solid state drivers are fast, quiet and currently extremely expensive. So far they have only been seen in portable devices like tablet and Ultra-Mobile PCs and even then only in small sizes. Currently, Samsung Electronics and Sandisk already make solid-state drives but the sizes of drives being talked about by Toshiba is new. According to Reuters, Micron also has plans to enter the solid state drive market, with mass production early next year. More here. µ http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/new...lid-state-drive Added on December 11, 2007, 12:10 amAsus allows memory upgrades to EEE Memoreeee warranteee reeeewrite By Nick Farrell: Monday, 10 December 2007, 3:22 PM ASUS has issued a statement saying that it was ok for punters to upgrade the RAM on the eeeePC Thanks to a stunning cock-up on the design front, the eeeeeeePC shipped with a warning sticker over the access door to the single ODIMM slot on some models of the ASUS Eee PC. These stickers told of the perils of taking the back off your eeeePC. Yea, the four horses of the apocalypse, shall ride, the warranty shall be voided and lo there shall be great gnashing of teeth when the seal is broken. But as users pointed out, that would all be very well if you did not have to stick in extra RAM. The eeeePC ships with the memory of a goldfish. It could only remember your name and the time. So now Asustek has told the world plus dog that memory upgrades will not void the warranty. In fact when the eeeeeePC [has your keyboard got stuck? Ed.] ships in future the seal will not be there. Asus will actually replace the warranty label with a label to warn users that the outfit will not be responsible for the damage caused by improper hardware change if you really want it in writing. The firm has also changed its written Limited Warranty policies to cope with the changes. That is not to say that Asus thinks letting your Uncle Stan, who everyone thinks is a bit handy with computers because he used to clean the floors at IBM, should be allowed to have a tinker with it. µ Added on December 11, 2007, 12:11 amhttp://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2007/12/10/asus-allows-ram-upgrades reminds me of the early days of Apple.. when computing was simple and cheap..
