Just wondering.

Do any of you guys use bluetooth dongles with the Asus EEE running on Linux?

What kind of bluetooth dongle brands and models are supported?

Thanks!
*
rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif got my less than 3 weeks old Eee from fren. Eee really rock!!

Shock, Asus Eee Xandros linux default already come with bluetooth drivers, command for user to use any standard kind USB BT.

What u need to do just start the dbus, bluetooth driver then hcitool scan it biggrin.gif

p/s: i'm using MSI BT 1.1(old btoes)

Eee no problem connect to SE phone for GPRS, 3G, 3.5G dial up. (yah, its simplest way)

But, its headache try communicate with WindowsMobile phone like iPAQ. doh.gif doh.gif (I've been trying, even load wcerdnis driver also can't work sweat.gif sweat.gif )

maybe need to wait for proper WM driver biggrin.gif

The default Xandros linux is pretty good. At first I was thinking get XP/ubuntu 7 installed on it, because I was thinking Xandros lack of Bluetooth....

But then, the kernel already 2.6 with bluetooth. thumbup.gif

Wong got his point too. normal notebook ram on board will generate high temperature. I'm not sure how eee main board design, but its definitely tiny.

u need to know the air flow design whether suitable higher heat.

But the thing IS running normal notebook RAM right now, it's using cheap easily available parts how else you think they can make it so cheap?

And it already gets toasty as it is, it doesn't exactly run cool.
*
at office, home i use it w/o battery, the heat obviously reduce.

my eeepc was sent to service center after few days of using it, my SSD seems got some problem, cannot boot into the OS. And i broke my warranty seal to install 2gb RAM. but still it is under warranty. wink.gif

http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=4520

ASUS Computer International ("ASUS") recently received feedback from one of its valued customers with questions concerning the purpose of a seal stating, "Warranty Void If Removed" over the access door to the single SODIMM slot on some models of the ASUS Eee PC. ASUS wishes to assure its customers that merely breaking or removing this kind of seal will not void the ASUS Limited Warranty. Although ASUS recommends that customers use ASUS-approved service facilities and components, ASUS is committed to honoring the terms of its Limited Warranty and making sure that its customers are free to make appropriate hardware and software modifications and upgrades, regardless of whether the service is performed by an approved facility, a non-approved service provider, or by the customers themselves. ASUS will replace the warranty label with a label to warn users that ASUS will not be responsible for the damage caused by improper hardware change. ASUS is taking steps to make sure that the seals in question are no longer used in its products that are intended to be sold in any country where these stickers are not permitted.

Ok, my eeePC runs WinXP very well right now.

The main reason I did the upgrade to 2GB is not for performance issues, but rather because with more RAM it means that I can turn off the paging file and reduce wear on the SSD.

I tried to move the paging file and the temporary internet files to the SD card but... the pity is that my 2GB SanDIsk Extreme card just isn't fast enough to handle it. The system slows to a crawl when the temporary internet files are stored there.

Wonder if a class 6 SDHC card makes a difference or not?
*
ya...same thought too(turn off paging file)

how much space occupied by xp ?

net temp to sd/mmc/sdhc isn't good idea.. BUT,

since 2GB memory, y not take out 512 memory for virtual memory drive just for everything on temp ? brows.gif brows.gif

DDR2 533MHz good enuf for eee? or 667?

make sure the XP installation CD is with SP2. after XP completed, then follow asus provided CD all drivers.

I done mine once, wecab is there. webcam not necessary enable from bios too.

iRonTech : don't put the page file on a RAM disk, it's redundant that way since the page file is only used when there's not enough RAM and the only thing you're doing with that is taking RAM away from the system
*
hmm.gif 2GB physical ram, should turn off paging file?

it is clocked at 600mhz, you need to update bios to make it run at full speed 900mhz..

but update bios has some risk, some updates failed and cannot boot up
*

i had try the 8804 ROM which has BIOS option for change the FSB from 70 to 100. But the problem is, the Wave-out.....the screen display has wave....Unable to change the refresh rate which fixed on 60Hz...

Alot problem use that BIOS too. Such as fail to load the driver like Display, audio, wifi and more. But able to solve it by uninstall the ACPI and reinstall back. (recommend format again to get a complete problem free) But the Wave still there.
*
shocking.gif 8804? where u got it?

sweat.gif like that.... c below... tongue.gif

tweak FSB under windows http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=2540

this method seem work fine...

But then, I don't understand why ASUS lock it up at 600MHz?? 900 consumpt battery within 1 hour?? hmm.gif sweat.gif

*
i wanted clock it to "normal 900Mhz"...but afraid ASUS might hide some BIOS issue on battery ACPI vs celeron sweat.gif sweat.gif
