If you are getting RSRP -80 then the DNB signal is very strong. Open a browser window and go to cellmapper.net, Menu>Provider - Filter the Telco to Yes, Signal to 4G LTE. For some reason, all DNB 5G towers are listed under Yes 4G.

You will see signal towers with numbers 3XXXXX and 7XXXXX. The ones starting with 7XXXXX are the DNB 5G masts. If you are getting -80 for B28, my guess is you have a 5G mast very near your house.

Hi thank you for this. I'm planning to sub to this plan. Quick q after all the testing i have done via my 5g phone using my umobile postpaid.

b78 NSA RSRP: 105-110dbm, b28 LTE RSRP: 85-95dbm.
Speedtest via fast.com is average 250-300mbps.

1) does the modem will perform such as above test result? Or even better? Considering the modem will pull the signal in better than phone.

2) i tested using maxis 5g postpaid sim and able to get 700mbps instead. I have only 1 tower with 7xxxxxx id nearby here. Assuming all telco are using the same dnb infra, shouldn't the test result would be more or less the same?

Thanks

1) It depends on the 5G Modem in your phone. I've been using the MC888S for a few days now, so far on the same UM SIM card, I find that speedtest perform very similar when compared to the Zyxel NR5103E and Huawei CPE Pro. The MC888S does however have a much weaker Wifi penetration in my own experience.

2) Not all results are the same. Our connection to the DNB infrastructure is only half the journey, which is the "last mile connection". The rest of it depends on the Telco's own infrastructure. Speedtest shows only the result between the user to the selected server. Different Telcos ping different servers on speedtest, you can try to select a neutral server and test them both again. I am constantly getting 600-700Mbps on Yes 5G compared to 400-500Mbps on UM. However on Yes5G, it takes 30 seconds to load Foodpanda, Twitter pictures never ever load and there is no way to connect to many games on PS5. The only reason for keeping Yes5G is because they work very well on torrents and I use 2.5TB a month on that.

At the moment, this is best 5G wireless broadband plan with free router for the average user. Good enough for HD movie streaming and regular Internet usage such as browsing.

Personally I find U Mobile's network to be so much more stable and consistent compared to Yes 5G.

The MC888S is using inferior Unisoc IVY soc compared to other modems.

Snapdragon X62>Mediatek T750>Snapdragon X55>Unisoc

Optus Australia just launched their new Snapdragon X65 which supports SA Carrier Aggregation Home Ultra WiFi 5G modem 3 weeks ago.

Comes with 2 X 2.4G Ethernet ports seems the trend now. Buy your own switch or high end router to pair with your modem.

I just bought the plan, 5G activated on my iPhone 12 Pro, tested the signal around my apartment via fast.com, got speed ranging from 360Mbps to 450Mbps.

For me, anything above 100Mbps is good enough for my parents' use case.

I open cellmapper webpage via the phone browser, go to Provider>U mobile>4G LTE

I found got 2 towers (8xxxxx) with band 1,3,7 on my apartment. Not sure if this make any sense to the 5G signal.

Anyway guys, seems like I can go apply for the U Home 5G right?

The UM Band 1,3,7 is for you to fall back on when using 4G. To find towers for DNB 5G, look under Yes 4G LTE. They grouped all DNB towers under "YES LTE" on that website.

oh I see... now i know what you mean earlier.

Just done checking, I got a 7xxxxx tower with green band 28, 40* just less than 100m from my house.

I guess that explain the stable signal.

Could this be the issue? If you purchased online:

Yes it is. However, will still need umobile side to manually make the activation appear on my end.

The first cs I called ask me to wait 24 hours. The second cs manually makes the activation button appear. Problem solved.

Thanks.

Apologize for off topic. Just wondering if anyone run mesh with the modem router from UMOBILE?

I'm planning to connect the modem router to mesh AP 1 wirelessly, then mesh AP 1 to mesh AP 2 with eth wire. Would this work?

The SIM card you received from the eshop is a blank card. After UM receives confirmation from the courier your sim has been delivered, they will send you an email for activation. Otherwise you can go to the eshop website, log in and check if the sim is ready for activation. You will have to key in the last four digits of the SIM card to activate the card.

those that subscribed the plan with ZTE MC888S included and if you experienced the router being hot and say the router is performing
the answer is no...it's hot because of the 3 LED in front...turn it off and your whole router will be much cooler
