I'll try to ask them to give me a Full Unlocked Firmware so that its possible for us to bypass Maxis Restrictions or so If you need any help in testing,i think i can lend a hand if im free. What do you want me to do?

QUOTE(prasys @ Oct 25 2007, 03:08 PM) he admitted that Maxis is using QoS. looks like my doubt has come true. been guessing it was QoS. no wonder after downloading so much file (like in torrent or direct download, the connection deteriorates, like 1:1 ratio of give and take for certain timeline. QUOTE(prasys @ Oct 25 2007, 03:47 PM) I am willing to do that. I'll research more on it VPN , yeah just configure and run. If you torrent a lot then its worth to get a VPN account. No hassle , its hard for them to detect as its uses encryption ! as far as i know, your connection will be encrypted or masked. but some im pretty sure they are using sort of security appliances on the internet gateway such as Intrusion Prevention System. some of the IPS can "read" the encrypted packet and definitely catch you if u used torrent or they detected that u are a heavy downloader...

I'll try to ask them to give me a Full Unlocked Firmware so that its possible for us to bypass Maxis Restrictions or so i've tried asking for new firmware in ZTE's own technical forum ages ago, no news at all.. i'm interested in full unlocked firmware, but i think chances of ZTE distributing it will be very very slim, cause i think maxis is the only company that is using this modem(tried googling, no info found at all..), and they probably have some sort of contract to protect maxis's interest. i am sorry if this has been posted before in the front pages but I didn't go through the whole 15 pages as it's a lot. Maybe someone should post this in the FAQ. Maxis and Celcom both have something called Fair Usage PolicyMaxis's if limit to 3GB and Celcom is 5GB. I believe they still haven't enforce it yet cause no one complain yet. But has anyone kena this before? Like maxis terminating your access due to excessive downloads? 3GB is can easily finished in few days if downloading torrent. So, someone care to explain more about this policy? Thanks.

I doubt that... bcoz of the number of users + data and the amount of traffic caused... but I do know that Cisco and a few others have started testing a system to enable ISP to characterized the encryption and then put all the "unknown/possible p2p" into a queries... all push thru a fix channel so that you do not jammed their BW too much, causing an auto throtthe at a tunnel all awaiting their packet to arrive (like the arrival hall of KLIA during super peak) .... from what I read, it is not out yet... or maybe the article was outdated....

I think it'll be hard to obtain the firmware directly from ZTE, since they are the one that producing the thing and sell to maxis. Mayb there will be some disclosure agreement in between. They are some other ISPs in other countries using this modem as well, but no luck Their users also facing the same problem. And the simlock on the simcard itself ... i put tat into my p910i and i can make calls bypassing the simlock ... not sure on other phone. Anyone tried to unlock the sim card and put it on a data card? And i found one funny link on the modem, dunno for what ... it will make ur modem show busy message after few hits. http://192.168.0.1/cgi-bin/mainweb?optype=0006This post has been edited by bytefreezer: Oct 25 2007, 07:04 PM

Older enterprise grade firewalls prevents P2P activity by doing deep packet inspection but most recently newer ones can even detect bandwidth utilization up to each individual user. The isps would know how each ip behaves while determining who are always downloading all the time.Data can be presented in form where subscribers can be grouped into tiers in which they can be identified based on overall bandwidth utilization. For example in a pool of subscribers, they can identify that a certain number of users are utilizing the overall capacity heavily, specifying a rule that these subscribers be limited in bandwidth.
Results have shown that even VPN won't be effective against this kind of implementation as in countries like Canada such systems have already been in place. Even with VPN encrypting the data, the bandwidth management system would straight away identify your consistent non-stop leeching and kick in to limit your speed. It identifies the user based on how frequent there's activity and how much you're utilizing the total network resources.
Ideally, this kind of system isn't appropriate for low bandwidth packages like our Streamyx 1mbps-2mbps but more for controlling excessive users with uncapped speeds.
Who knows what greedy internet providers in Bolehland can do?

I think we are all getting a bit excited here trying to "hack" the modem and getting pass ISP's evil claw.... but i think we should look at the issues in two different ways..... (1) WE ARE NOT GETTING CLOSE TO 60% OF OUR PACKAGE STATED SPEED (FOR USERS ON HSDPA) (2) HEAVY P2P USERS GETTING THROTTLE BADLY FOR EXCESSIVE DOWNLOADS (LIMIT BANDWIDTH) what we want and what we are getting is sooooooooo far that i've read thousands of threads from UK/USA (mostly dated 2006) and we are not alone on P2P limitations... but at least they are getting at least 75% of their respective packages. while VPN has already proven to increase your torrent by an average of 300%, the connection speeds/total activities is controlled by the ISP (like the phenomenan for the past few nights) where only resetting your connections helps. Hehe ... but the most important issue now is to wait Maxis to finish their so called "upgrade". At least hold ur gun till then. Like myself, my modem is a 3G broadband modem in daytime, after sunset ... it will transforms into .... not Autobot ... but a 56K modem which will giv me 5~10 KBps of http download. P2P throttling is another case, but at least, let us get back what we are actually paying for ... Y( ) Anyone hav an idea that VPN or tflux or utorrent webui is more suitable for us? currently using getbyte2u's webui, reasonable speed at 60~250KBps, any other method that will achieve better speed?
